Here Comes The Bride...

Wedding planning. One of the most exciting things one could do but with a high risk of developing a bad case of Batshit Crazy by the time the wedding day rolls in.

This, my friends, is the primary reason why I’ve been MIA yet again. After getting engaged, we immediately jumped to wedding planning. My fiancé and I are grateful for the opportunity to get drunk and throw a party... errr... to celebrate our love & union in front of family and friends, but it’s almost Faustian. And by Faustian I mean there's a lot of work involved, a lot of research, meetings, a lot of tense dinners and charged silences between my fiance and myself because we can't agree on a word, color, or font style. I now understand why it's called The Big Day so as to justify the months' long prep work for a one-day event all with the hopes that it will not only be a memorable day for us but for everyone who's been gracious enough to witness our union.

Or at least we hope it will.

So on days where I wasn’t either losing my sanity or desperately trying to hold on to it, I’ve successfully read these books, if you're curious about my thoughts on these, you may find it here:

Footnote if you’re planning to get married in Nashville: May-September are the peak months so either plan 1.5yrs ahead or be aggressive when booking your venue. Better yet, elope! Skip the he whole wedding thing and just have Elvis marry you. Oh, and stock up on alcohol, you're going to need a lot of those.

  1. LOL! This is so ironic because I used to be the Administrator for a Wedding Planner AND a Caterer, so I know exactly how you feel from both ends. Some days we didn't sleep because the bride didn't sleep!(lol) If you need any help, please let me know because I'd sure hate to see you on the new Bridezilla series.(lol) HUGE Hugs...RO

    1. Your old job is so stressful! I can't imagine doing this, planning a wedding, for a living. I have the same goal, I don't want to be on that show either. Those brides are effing ridiculous! lol

  2. I'm so happy for yall!!! We went the elope in Vegas route, I wasn't about to try to plan it all myself and get super stressed. Most of my family is 5+ hours away and only a few of his immediate family are in town so it wasn't worth spending too much to try to do a local one.

  3. Oh gosh, I'm sorry it's been so stressful. Just focus on what makes you two happy and don't worry about anyone else. :) Congrats though!

    1. Thank you, and thankfully, everyone who's been helping us plan are supportive of our wants and needs. Planning it in general is stressful especially now that we're getting close. Not all the wheels are turning on the same beat.

  4. Yeah, I didn't want the stress so I kept it simple. We waited a month for the party, in fact. Stay sane. :)

  9. This makes me smile so HUGE! I'm so happy for you both, Braine, but I get where you're coming from on the wedding planning. ;) Elope. That's my advice. Of course it's probably too late now so "elope" for your 5th anniversary. ;) Hubs and I renewed our vows on our 10th...barefoot on the beach. We wished we'd done it that way to begin with. LOL Good luck and I wish you both ALL the best!! *mwah*

SO happy for you, that means no more adventures in dating posts. I hope all goes well, and that you find your way back to books and blogging once everything settles down. Hugs!

  17. Hi Braine, good to see an update from you again!! Heh Wedding planning is a mess ain't it? It most definitely tests the young couple right before the wedding. Just remember, even if you want things perfect and everything is done leave room for things to go wrong, because things do tend to go wrong! But it's one day and than it's over, the important thing is you'll be married by the end of the day (hopefully, unless you become a runaway bride ;) jk) so have fun, drink and dance!!

    1. Thank you!

I agree, it's all for a good cause. It's funny because I want it to be "perfect" for our guests than the two of us. Because truly, as long as we're together, as cheesy as it may sound, it's our kind of perfect regardless. We just want to throw an amazing party for our guests and make sure attending it will be worth their time.

      Thank you!

  19. I'm so very happy for you! We planned our wedding in a fairly short time... and we did it in two phases. Legal wedding at the mayor's office one year, and church wedding the year after. And the church wedding was more family - so we did that in Norway. Which means my family had to do most of the planning *grins*
I'm sure you'll figure things out! And think about it - how important is that font and color really ?

    1. How fun! I wish we & our families have the resources to do a destination wedding... you're right, but we're now sucked in to the whole thing where everything has to be consistent with the theme and motif. As a lover of stories, I get it, there's just a lot of moving parts & having them move on the same beat is what's challenging.

      Thanks, Lexxie! *hugs*
