At Shadyside High, cheerleading can be a scream!

For the first time since the original series, R.L. Stine brings back his most beloved characters—the cheerleaders of Shadyside High.

The cheerleading squad at Shadyside has always been strong, but now there are rumors that lack of funds may mean the end of cheerleading at Shadyside. That would be a shame for Gretchen Page, who has just transferred from her old school, where she was a star, and is eager to join the squad. There’s only one other girl who stands in her way—rich, spoiled Devra Dalby, who is also trying out for the one open slot. The competition to join the squad is anything but friendly—and it ends in murder. Will Gretchen make the squad—if there's even a squad anymore—or will she end up dead?

Packed with screams and guaranteed to send a shiver up your spine, this is a terrifying installment in Stine's bestselling Fear Street series.

GIVE ME A K-I-L-L is the 6th installment in author R.L. Stine's Fear Street Relaunch series. Meet protagonist Gretchen Page, new to Shadyside High School. As the new kid in school, Gretchen has to prove herself, especially when it comes to joining the cheerleading squad which has already proven they belong among the best. In her old school of Savanna Mills HS, Gretchen was the best cheerleader on her squad. But, after a divorce, she and her mother move to Fear Street.

Gretchen is promised a tryout after her new coach sees her audition tape. But, that means going head to head against Senior Devra Dalby whose daddy is richer than Bill Gates. Devra isn't afraid of using intimidation, threats, and bribery to get a spot on the team. But, would she resort to murder? Meanwhile, Gretchen becomes infatuated with Sid Viviano, the boyfriend of the cheer captain. Then the reindeer games begin in earnest. Gretchen receives sinister text messages. Her new uniform is delivered filled with cockroaches. A flaming baton performance goes horribly awry. And, the only friend who Gretchen actually has, ends up dead in the very worst possible way.

Does Devra want the position badly enough that she will try to commit murder? Or is Gretchen’s past catching up to her? But, Gretchen isn't normal. She's driven, she's really, really good at being a cheerleader, and she has some issues that really made me guess at what was happening outside of her cheerleading challenges. She won't let a spoiled rich kid stand in her way, and besides, what's a few pranks between frenemies to really get the blood flowing?

The not so good.

I finally got around to figuring out who Polly was later in the story. Should have caught it sooner. Second, I would argue that whomever put this synopsis together should have checked to make sure they had the character's name right. It's Gretchen Page, not Heather Wyatt. As I have a finished copy of the story, the name is correct in my copy. Next, the slippery romance here is just icky and made no sense to me. At all. Especially when it was apparent that something just didn't add up as Sid was already with someone else. Lastly, the relationship between Gretchen and her mother was just agonizing to read. I could never treat my mother the way Gretchen treats hers without being slapped on the back of my head. It's what's wrong with society today that parent's can't punish their children without Children services stepping in and claiming abuse.

My last concern was the open ended way GIVE ME A K-I-L-L just ends. Will there be another book that features Gretchen, or are we supposed to guess as to what the cryptic meaning actually meant? Either way, disappointing!
