You guys, I'm getting addicted to podcasts! So it seems my life in fiction have organized itself somehow:

  • Reading: Literary and Women's Fiction
  • Audiobooks: Self-Help & Humorous Memoirs
  • Podcast: Dark Supernatural &/or Sci-Fi Fantasy

DARKEST NIGHT is my latest discovery. I found it this week and finished the available episodes in less than 48 hours.

I also think I'm running on a theme because DARKEST NIGHT has that weird, creepy, thriller vibe going on for it. The story so far is centered on Project Cyclops and we have Katie Reed, the latest employee of Roth-Lodbow Center for Adcanced Research, and assistant to retiring seasoned researcher, Dr. John Kinsler, is taking us with her as she gets inducted into the center. Basically what Katie and Dr. Kinsler has been doing is view their subject's last memory before they died. I promise you, none of the deaths so far have been peaceful and the victims run from babies (yes! babies!!) to adults. So far, the installments are episodic but there's a faint overarching arc somewhere that connects all the subjects and the nature of Project Cyclops.

DARKEST NIGHT is a radio dramatization with an amazing cast of voice actors. And although Katie Reed is at the helm for now, she's at the edge of the fourth wall in that she raises questions the audience has about Project Cyclops. Like why are these deaths not reported to the authorities, or is the center involved in some conspiracy, etc. Interesting inquiries and I'm excited to learn the answers to it and so much more.

The first episode is bloody, gory, curious, and will definitely get you hooked! Given of course that you enjoy dark stories. I suggest you listen to the first 10 mins. before you make a decision.

I'm open to recs, if you're following a podcast, regardless of genre, leaves immense below and I'll be sure to check it out!

  6. Ally is really into podcasts, though I'm not sure which ones. I'm really starting to think that I should give audiobooks a shot soon; it's getting harder and harder to find the time to sit down and read a book, and I can multitask while I'm listening. Glad you've really enjoyed this podcast so far!

  7. I've never tried podcasts. Or well, not fiction podcasts. I've listened to a few Ted Talks on podcasts and a few by Kevin Smith. Are these similar to listening to an audiobook?

  8. It must be good if you binged on it like that! ;) I'll have to give a podcast a try sometime. You have my curiosity piqued. And it is interesting how your reading tastes are divided among formats... but whatever works, Braine, right? {{hugs}}

  9. Hey, I'm the main writer of Darkest Night. Glad you're enjoying it. I just started a new podcast called "Rover Red: Alone in Apocalypse" that features a girl travelling across a post-apocalyptic world. It's also interactive in an RPG sense.
