Match Series: Orange Flags #onlinedating

Despite my snarky attitude, I can be very naive and gullible when it comes to strangers. Not unless you're screaming DANGER in bold, red, glowing letters, I'm more likely to give you a chance and get to know you before I make any "judgment". Red flags are pretty obvious and standard when it comes to people like no psychos or shit like that. Then there are the orange flags or things that are subjective that made me pause and heed.

My Top Orange Flags
  1. When they use your own words on you. Sure, we can have the same interests, but this one dude told me Hey, I'm a hopeless romantic too! Which is kind of a conversation starter because what dude would admit that? I should've known as soon as he said it (duh!) but it took me a few conversations and several dates to find out that it was all a fucking line! It all dawned on me when I asked him what he meant by being a hopeless romantic because he hasn't been doing any "romantic" shit, and his reply was, Aren't we all? Thank god he paid for the dates!

  2. When they don't make the move to call or meet you. Trust me, there are a lot of people out there who are professional online daters. For whatever reason, they're all too happy just to converse online even if y'all have good chemistry. Worst case scenario, dude's married or in a relationship or some shit like that.

  3. When they had a "crazy" ex. I mean I guess we all have one of those, but this one dude I went out with told me his ex almost stabbed him and that said girl was clinically crazy. I didn't really ask much but it did make me wonder what pushed the chick over the edge to attempt bodily harm like that. Hmmm....

  4. When they keep planning dates wayyyy into the future. Like slow your role, I'm feeling pressured here when I'm not even sure I want to go out with you on a second date.

  5. When they don't get your jokes. I personally think that sense of humor is important and that you should be with someone who matches yours. Nothing is lame-r than having to explain your jokes.

I'm not playing the advisor here and it totally depends on your limits and what you're looking for. I personally just want to cut the BS and proceed to pursuing something with a "possible". Sure I can go out on a date with a different person every weekend, it COULD be fun, but that's not why I'm doing this. I seriously want the same kind of crazy chemistry that makes us swoon like the couples in Kate Meader's Hot in Chicago series; I want a sexy nerd like in Jennifer Probst's Searching For series; I want explosive connection a la Jessica Lemmon's Second Chance

Anyway, I'm going to cut this short because I have a phone call to answer. Feel free to share your orange flags below, I need all the tips that I can get!

  1. Thanks for sharing Braine, orange flags are a great way to describe these personality dangers.

  2. Number 3 had me laughing, because right? Right? Does make you wonder sometimes.

And yes, a sense of humor is such a must. You need someone that you can laugh with and be a friend with first before all the other stuff.

  3. Hahaha! I wonder what made the ex want to stab him. I don't expect for my guy to be as book nerdy as me, or love all the things I do, but It's important to be compatible. My boyfriend and I have been together for 13 years (he's proposed twice but I don't believe in marriage), but we are totally opposite yet he gets me. We enjoy the same movies and if I make a joke about something I've read or seen, he laughs and asks me where I got it from. He embraces all of my quirks, and I love him for it. He knows what books I like and I give him the same attention when he's going on about his cars. I think just being in tune with each other is important, or the relationship won't last.

  4. Oh has been so long since I dated..I mean like 30 years ago...I guess the internet both helps and hinders things. Thanks for sharing.

  5. I'm naive too so I can understand but well I didn't expect persons like that lol. I wasn't that much into internet dating but I met a really nice guy (not on a website like that but when I was younger and playing on the internet) but in the end nothing came out.

  6. Omg yes. They NEED to get your jokes and you his, otherwise, I mean, does he even make you laugh, you know? LOL, the crazy ex. Who would even admit that right away???

  7. I appreciate you sharing your online dating antics to entertain us, Braine. ;) I understand where you're coming from though and agree with your orange flags. :) The one who's ex tried to stab him...uh yeah, I'd be worried about him too. And I completely agree with you on the sense of humor. I can't tell you how many times my hubs has said the reason I'm still married to him is that he can make me laugh. :D (it's only partially true! lol) Good luck, my friend!

  8. I love your snarky attitude. :-) I am the opposite...I don't trust anyone. After're not paranoid, if they really are out to get you. I have been burned too many time, even by family, and if you can't trust those close to you, how can you trust a stranger? Hang in there.

  9. I'm the complete opposite. I trust no one and look for signs to prove me wrong. lol

  10. I am so, so happy Mr. Lex and I get along so well, so that I don't have to find someone else...
Getting your jokes is way up there, I think! If you tell a joke, and it falls flat all the time, it's a sad evening, right?
I hope you'll find the pearl you are looking for - hot, sexy and snarky for the win!

  11. There are some crazy ones out there >.< I hope you steer clear of the players and the crazies and find an awesome one :D

  12. I went on one date and gawd he was awful. Another I talked to on the phone & all he kept saying isnhe wanted someone with a K. Kardashian booty. I mean sure, I have booty but 1) mines not that big, 2) mines isnt fak3. Finally told him to stop watching so much TV & ventur outside...what a mess lols. Online datingnis interestingfor sure. Hopefully we'll come across someone soon ☺

  13. I like your Orange flags. I haven't dated in 25 years and I wasn't that great at it when I did. I was the too cautious one that probably earned a few orange flags because I was nervous and jittery quite a bit. :)

  14. This guy said the creepiest thing to me once, how he wanted to put me in a cabin in the middle of nowhere and hide the key. And no one would ever find me 0_0 I mean wtf

    1. Ooops published too early. My point is no orange flags, those freaks always went to red

  15. I LOVE these posts so much, sis! #5 is definitely important to me; I'm afraid that any dude who didn't appreciate sarcasm would not be happy with me because I practically live on snark, lol.

  16. Ahh humor is hard to match up sometimes. I feel bad for the guy with the crazy ex. People are crazy. It's not always the fault of the person who they were with just like if a guy tried to hurt a girl. :/

  17. I'm probably the very last person to ask for romance advice. I've been with the same guy for 26 years and we met while we were both being treated for a suicide attempt. That should be a red flag, yeah? Don't date someone crazier than yourself? lol

  18. lol! Maybe she really was just a crazy ex. I would want to know the last time he had contact with her, because I wouldn't want crazy coming after me. Love these posts, but not your misery. :D

  19. Sounds like you are weeding them out pretty well to me. You have a great grip on the dating and handling these men. :)
