Most dating books tell you what not to do. Here's a book dedicated to telling you what you can do.

In his book, Get the Guy, Matthew Hussey - relationship expert, matchmaker, and star of the reality show Ready for Love - reveals the secrets of the male mind and the fundamentals of dating and mating for a proven, revolutionary approach to help women to find lasting love.

Matthew Hussey has coached thousands of high-powered CEOs, showing them how to develop confidence and build relationships that translate into professional success. Many of Matthew's male clients pressed him for advice on how to apply his winning strategies not to just get the job, but how to get the girl. As his reputation grew, Hussey was approached by more and more women, eager to hear what he had learned about the male perspective on love and romance.

From landing a first date to establishing emotional intimacy, playful flirtation to red-hot bedroom tips, Matthew's insightfulness, irreverence, and warmth makes Get the Guy: Learn Secrets of the Male Mind to Find the Man You Want and the Love You Deserve a one-of-a-kind relationship guide and the handbook for every woman who wants to get the guy she's been waiting for.

I stumbled upon Matthew Hussey's videos on YouTube a couple of weeks ago. I was skeptical about his dating advice platform at first yet I kept watching because (1) he is frickin' cute, and (2) that accent gets me every time. As I kept watching, I've developed a liking to his dating principles and decided to  read his book, GET THE GUY, which luckily my library has.

ICYMI, I've jumped into the dating pool because leaving everything to fate wasn't really working for me. And because I've never really dated, I saw my inexperience a handicap and so I decided to learn more about the dating culture.

It's okay, you can judge me. I would judge me too a few months ago. But after doing this online dating for six weeks now I realized my cluelessness is a vulnerability that I am uncomfortable with.

HOW TO GET THE GUY is, for all intents and purposes, a dating manual at first with "getting the guy" or being in a meaningful and fulfilling relationship as the end game. But at its core is self-improvement, fostering self-love, and developing self-worth. As in we have to be the person we want to be in a relationship.

Aside from the self-help section, there are a lot of helpful tips on how to date smartly and navigate the male mind. It's been enlightening to say the least especially as the current dating culture has changed a LOT since I was last single, and even if I don't meet Mr. Right on Match, I could at least avoid the bad apples as best I can and avoid another unnecessary  heartbreak.

That said, there's a few marketing baits included in the book akin to "upgrades" or supplementary material to enhance your experience. You don't have to get them as it doesn't diminish the usefulness of HOW TO GET THE GUY IMO, just giving you a head's up. Anyway, if you're like me or are just curious, this MHussey book is worth the read/listen.

  1. You're a brave woman, B! You've got this.

  2. I was looking forward to your review of this. I'm married but I love the idea of improving yourself first. I think that applies to anyone - in a relationship or looking for one.

  3. Oo this looks really good! Wonderful review!

  4. I honestly thought this was a romance novel at first until I saw that it was self-help. It sounds like a really good book to help you navigate the dating world. I also like that it was written by a guy instead of a women's experience in dating.

  5. I think it's good that you are committed to dating, and you are looking for ways to improve yourself, therefore finding the perfect match. We all get invited to the wedding right? LOL!

  6. Great post Braine. Thanks for sharing what has to be an incredibly personal journey!

  7. I think I'd really want to read a book like this if I was trying for another relationship in this new day and age since it is nearly thirty years since I last dated. I'll have to look him up on You Tube and see what he says.

  8. Glad you enjoyed it Braine! Hope the Mountain Man hunt is going well <333

  9. Anything that will give you a leg up out there. Good luck, girlfriend, you got this.

  10. You just made me go check out one of his videos! He's adorable and that accent...oh my! :) I agree that dating nowadays has changed so much compared to 10-30 years ago. I'm so glad you're giving dating a try now and going about it much more informed. I love that this was written by a guy and that he narrates it too. Good luck, Braine! We're all rooting for ya! :)

  11. Hey, people shouldn't judge! I've never dates and I'm 26, so it's definitely a weird concept for me. I know a lot because of my friends and family who have dates, but it's different when it's you.

  12. I'm 21 and my dating life sucks... bad. This book may help me get that guy I've been eyeing. HAHAHAHHAHA! Love this! :D

  13. Probably not my type of book but it sure is original.
