Cherry Popped! Karma Girl by Jennifer Estep + Unraveled

Karma Girl, Bigtime 1, by Jennifer Estep
Superhero Chick-Lit | May 1, 2007 | Berkley | Purchased

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | Kobo

I've been catching up on all the superhero movies I missed this year so I decided to complement my binge with Jennifer Estep's Bigtimr series featuring superheroes!

The blurb is spot on in that KARMA GIRL is a chick-lit meets comic lit in this super fun fantasy series debut. Carmen Cole is as feisty, clever, anda little annoying as our dear Lois Lane. You gotta love/hate a girl who's mission in life is to expose the identities of both superheroes and villains right? Girls got a knack for it which led her to possibly the most high profile assignment and that is to uncover the identities of the Fearless Five, a la Avengers and Justice League.

Carmen's investigative style was exhilarating at first, can't help but get an ego boost from being successful at uncovering all these heroes and villains real identities... Until things went sideways and Carmen found herself mortally threatened by the ubervillains called the Terrible Triad.

I love KARMA GIRL! It was obvious who the key playeres are and I still got a kick over the many twists and turns like the story took like how Carmen thwarted the bad guys, landed the hero, and in turn became a superhero herself.

JEstep is such a masterful fantasy writer, she can make anything pop to psychedelic life with a bit of her glitter. KARMA GIRL is light yet heavy in action, sexy, while still managing to be touching. I definitely recommend this series to y'all, it's fast paced, a quick read, and an exciting superhero series!

Unraveled, Elemental Assassin 15, by Jennifer Estep
Urban Fantasy | August 30, 2016 | Pocket Books | ARC via Publisher
Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | Kobo

*bows down to Jennifer Estep*

How do you keep a long standing series like Elemental Assassin fresh at book 15?! Uh... maybe bring up ghosts of Christmas Past? That's exactly what happened in UNRAVELED. Just when I thought Gin's past is all neat and tidy, a loose thread is slowly unraveling together with everything we (thought we) know about Eira Snow.

See Gin and Bria's mom is apparently involved in some hush-hush club called The Circle. There's not much to tell at this point because much of everything is still shrouded in mystery. Which is an exciting new arc IMO because The Circle just might unravel whatever romanticized notions and memories Gin and Bria have for parents. There are new villains afoot and I'm excited to see what kind of Elemental Gin will be up to next! Her opponent here might not be to her level, but they're just as villainous and as cunning! I love UNRAVELED, it introduced the series' new overarching arc in such an intriguing way I can't wait to see how this arc plays out!

  4. The plot sounds like a winner, and yeah, I like your idea of "pairing" the many superhero movies that seem to keep popping up lately (haven't missed a single one, btw...) with some quality fiction. And, wow, book 15! Speechless over here... Hugs, my lovely, I hope you're well <3
