Rinnie Noelle would rather kick some creepy villain butt than go on a date. As a Psi Fighter trained in the Mental Arts, she can’t be distracted by emotion. Her nemesis, Nicolaitan, is manipulating students from her school, using them as puppets to carry out his new plan to find the infamous Morgan Girl, and he doesn’t care who becomes collateral damage in the process. People’s lives are depending on Rinnie’s ultimate focus.

But Mason Draudimon keeps slicing into her soul sharper than a Thought Saber, and her feelings for him knock her off her game with the strength of a psionic War Hammer. Mason insists on helping Rinnie take down Nicolaitan for his own reasons—to avenge his mother—and the closer they get to the truth, the more dangerous the dance between mind and heart, life and death, logic and love.

LIVE AND LET PSI is the second installment in D.R. Rosensteel's PSI Fighter Academy. 16-year old Rinnie Noelle is a PSI Fighter. PSI Fighters are protectors who take on covert missions against dictators, evil organizations, and crime lords. Rinnie is also a survivor. TEN years ago, her nemesis Nicolaitan, the deadliest man alive, kidnapped her and killed her parents after they attempted to rescue her. Rinnie (aka Lynn Morgan) was put into hiding, adopted into a new family, and given a new name. She's spent the past TEN years pushing through intensive training in an attempt to be the best she can possibly be. But, Nicolaitan hasn't forgotten about her or his plans for her.

Rinnie is the youngest PSI Fighter to ever hold the title of black belt in Kung Fu, and uses psionic tools such as Thought Saber to take on Nicolaitan's Walpuris Knights, including Phobos and Scallion, who have been searching high and low for Rinnie, aka the one who got away. (No Harry Potter references please!) Rinnie and her organization have been trying to stop Nicolaitan from spreading the drug Psychedon 10 in Rinnie's High School. The drug takes away everyone's ability to be themselves. Like comic book super-heroines, Rinnie wears a mask and costume to hide her identity when she's not at school.

Once again, author Rosensteel uses snarky commentary and banter, along with a fairly decent amount of action to keep readers entertained. This book really has a hodge podge of interesting twists and turns as well as a holy crap ending. Loved the Superhero wannabe group known as the Dweeb League. I dare call them comic relief (Whatsisface, Tish, Bobby, and Pickle). Rinnie, her apparent boyfriend Mason Draudiman, and her best friend Kathryn Hollisburg, who is also a Whisperer, are also members of the group meant to protect the group against drugs and villains.

Rosensteel actually introduces the PSI Four who represent the highest mastery in the Mental Arts - Kilodan, Teradan, Megadan, & Gigadan. They are the most secretive of all the PSI Fighters. Nobody knows who these four are, except for maybe Andy aka Andor Manchild who is Rinnie's mentor and brilliant inventor. You can go ahead and call him Q if you want, he won't mind.

I am hoping that the author and publisher are working together to put out a THIRD installment, and not leave us hanging for another TWO years. I want to see how Rosensteel ferrets out the final battle between Rinnie and Nicolaitan and his Knights. I want to see if Rinnie's new allies are able to help her with the Knights. I want to see if Rinnie and Mason actually get 30 seconds alone without anyone interfering. I want more of Rinnie's little sister Suze who not only saved the day in the previous installment, but has some serious moves that rival her older sister. I would also like to see more of Rinnie and Kilodan fight back to back with Andy again against the Knights. Loved it!

  1. Eeesh. Two years?! Maybe that's why I thought this was the first of a series. I don't remember a book like this one but this installment has been popping up everywhere and catching my eye. Sounds like a fun series. However, with the long wait between books, maybe I'll just wait until the series is finished before starting it. ;)

  2. I hadn't heard of this series. It sounds like it has some good humor. It sounds kind of on the silly side which can be good or bad. I'd consider reading them I think.

  3. Gotta love holy crap endings lol

  4. I hadn't heard of this one before now but it sure sounds interesting.

  5. Eep 2 years is a long wait!

    Sounds fun otherwise.

  9. No more two-year wait! The manuscript for The Psi Who Loved Me is well underway, due to be complete by October 1, released in early 2017. It's intense! So here’s what happens: Nicolaitan captures Andy and the Kilodan, the Psi Fighters’ beloved leaders. He gives Rinnie twenty-four hours to give herself up, or he’ll murder them and hang their bodies from the courthouse flagpole. And, oh, by the way, one of them is already dead. It’s a tense moment for our heroine.
