At eighteen years old, Cassidy has suffered more loss than most... At the end of her senior year, her boyfriend, Jace Peters, was killed in a car accident, and her grandmother died only weeks later of a heart attack. Emotionally lost, Cassidy desperately searches for an heirloom her boyfriend was wearing in the crash-her mother's gold ring.

But during her search, Cassidy discovers more than her ring. She finds a gate to the Demon Realm.... A battle is brewing, and Killian-head of the Demon hunters-preps his Clan for the approaching conflict. They've been working to secure the gate between his realm and the mortal world. But it's been nearly impossible since Rya-a voracious demon on a quest to expand her power-devoured the soul of his Clan's necromancer.

Now Rya is possessed with the necromancer's powers and she may break through the gate at any moment. Apparently Rya isn't the only one Killian has to worry about... When Cassidy accidentally crosses into the Demon Realm, Killian can't understand how a human girl survived the transition. Now he has to find a way to return her to her own world, or risk her being caught in the crossfire, which is a complication he definitely doesn't need.

Once back in the Human Realm, Cassidy readies herself for battle. She signs up for Krav Maga classes, where she meets Tyler Romaitis-a handsome, tenacious, humble guy. He seems almost perfect, but nothing is ever that easy. And as the balance between good and evil shifts, Cassidy finds herself-and her ring-at the heart of the conflict for the survival of mankind.

BETWEEN THE BLEEDING WILLOWS is the first installment in D.A. Roach's Demon Hunter series. 18-year old protagonist Cassidy Kavanaugh is about as unlucky as a person can get. First, she loses her boyfriend of 4 years, Jace Peters, the boy who meant the world to her in a freak accident. Then, 2 weeks after HIS funeral, Cassidy loses the only woman who has been by her side since her own parents died, her grandmother.

Brokenhearted, shattered emotionally, and struggling to move on with her life, Cassidy unwittingly stumbles upon something that is totally out of her grasp of understanding. She believes that she see's her recently deceased boyfriend in a cemetery where she was searching for her mother's lost ring. But, he doesn't look like HER Jace. He almost looks like a demon. Then, to make things even crazier, she literally falls down the rabbit hole into an entirely different realm. The Demon Realm.

There is a mystery as to why Cassidy was able to survive the brutal fall without being killed in the process. But, you'll just have to guess or read the book in order to find out why. The Demon Realm is fighting for its very survival against a demon named Rya, and her desire to spread her evil to the human realm. A demon who has taken the powers of the clan's most powerful magic user, and now seeks even more power to bring down the barriers to the Human realm.

Cassidy meets the clans leader Killian who is all too eager for her to return back to the mortal realm, and out of harms way. But, you can't keep someone like Cassidy from opening up a can of worms and putting herself right back in the middle of the war between Rya and Killian's clan. She refuses to be handled, or coddled in any way. She makes friends with clan members like Casper, Jackson, Lena, and Angeline.

She also discovers a whole lot about her mother's ring, a war that happened 20 years ago, a power that she may have at her fingertips, and someone who she's never met and may hold the answers about Cassidy and the ring. No, Cassidy is not a special snowflake, and I still loathe anyone who calls female protagonists that. She finds herself torn between Killian and a new boy that comes along by the name of Tyler Romaitis.

No, this is not a love triangle, and you know how much I hate those! It's because one is definitely on the side of angels, while the other is an unknown player who we really don't know enough at this time. One could also say that she had some feelings for Casper as well, but nothing romantic in nature. Were I to offer my opinion, I would choose Casper since he is a brilliant fighter, and is funny, and adorable as well.

So, let's get to the point where I say that I received this E-Galley in lieu of an honest review from Xpresso Book Tours. Thanks, Giselle! Let me also say that yes, I will be looking forward to the sequel, Within the Darkest Hollows) whenever it is released, and hope that Giselle offers the next title as well. Why? I liked Cassidy, a whole lot. She struggles with pain and suffering like anyone else who has found themselves losing the loves of her life.

But, after getting a peek into another world, and realizing that she can most likely make a difference, Cassidy decides that she's going to get fit, and train how to fight. In fact, Cassidy stands up for herself, when others want her to be as far away from the war as possible. That is what I like in a protagonist. I am struggling to put BETWEEN THE BLEEDING WILLOWS into a category. Since Cassidy is 18, one could say NA Paranormal Romance. However, I also know that others have labeled this as YA Paranormal Romance. I'll let you choose.

  1. Glad you liked this enough to want to read the next. I have to say, I love the cover.

  2. You have been finding lots of cool YA books lately :)

  3. It sounds like a nice one even if not awesome and well I'm always intrigued when it's about demons

  4. That does sound like a good book. Thanks for the review.

  5. Interesting, and even more so because it's first in a series. It certainly is nice not be be the "latecomer" at one party for a change :) The heroine sounds intriguing, and so does the premise of the story. If the writing is half as good, tis could definitely become a favorite!

  6. I saw this one but didn't pick it up for review. Did I make a mistake missing out? Sounds like it. Happy reading.

  7. Oh I like the sound of this one. Very interesting. It also looks like it takes on a lot for one book. I do need to pick this one up.

  8. It's new to me simply because it's not a genre I typically like. But I am getting more interested in the angels/demons realm. So it'll be a hard maybe. Lol.

  9. Huh I'll look into this one. Sounds right up my alley :D

  10. Wow, so much loss for one person. I love that she learns how to fight.

  11. Sounds like it's a good start to a series, and some room to grow with each book. :)

  12. Goodness yeah that'd be quite the month. Sounds like an interesting one!

  13. Sounds interesting, not sure I want to start yet another series but will definitely pick it up if I see it at the right price
