The past has a way of catching up with you.

If there's one thing that Tarot-reading magical artifacts hunter Sara Wilde has never been able to track down, it's the truth about her own past. But now a powerful new threat to the psychic community will take Sara back to where it all began: the last job she worked with Officer Brody Rooks as "Psychic Teen Sariah," the job that destroyed her life and sent her on the run. Because the enemy she fled all those years ago has returned... with a posse of demons as his personal entourage.

Worse, Sara's infuriating mentor, the dangerously seductive Magician, is pushing her to stretch her abilities and explore the very deepest reaches of her magic. But every demand draws her further into the spell he's weaving around her. And every challenge tests her vow to keep him at arm's length.

From the glittering chaos of Las Vegas to the Lost City of Atlantis, Sara must risk everything in a quest for vengeance that grows darker and more twisted with every step. To succeed she'll have to face the truth about her past, her abilities...and the impossible, unstoppable attraction she has to the Magician. A truth that will reveal her ultimate role in the war on magic.

Life is full of surprises when you are Born to Be Wilde.

Let me get this out of the way because this has been my issue since Getting Wilde.

Jenn Stark, I do NOT appreciate the blue balls. It's painful and uncomfortable. Your constant teasing isn't cute anymore. Clothes need to melt and serious boinking needs to happen STAT!

Okay, back to the book at hand...

Immortal Vegas is an exciting urban fantasy filled with treasure hunting and tarot magic wherein Sara Wilde and the Major Arcana characters takes us to these crazy death defying excursions. In BORN TO BE WILDE, we take a trip to Atlantis and once again the adventure is... well, WILDE! More characters are introduced and all sorts of creatures came out to play. I was out of breath by the time the novel ended as JStark layered up the Tension in a very crafty way.

What I love about BORN TO BE WILDE is how personal the story is as far as Sara is concerned. Her identity is revealed and though it makes sense, it's still surprising nonetheless, and a little heartbreaking too. Imagine learning that your life is a lie and part of this big conspiracy and I can't say more because it'll be a big spoiler? Yeah and not only that, your pseudo boyfriend is going through some sort of crisis so he became human for a while but still refused to boink you? Yuppp!

I am loving Immortal Vegas so much! It's a light read but packed with the good stuff. I love how JStark is slowly revealing Sara's character from her backstory to her potential as a Tarot "magician". It's impossible not to get invested in her life and adventures. The series arc is just as drawn out, with every book that comes out, we are learning that there's more to the kidnapping of these talented kids. It's part of a much bigger ploy and now the odds are stacked against Sara. Lastly, this super slow, tension filled, building romance Sara has with Armeus has me all tied up in knots. It's sweet torture and I'm hoping JStark will have mercy and give us the big shebang in book 4, Wicked and Wilde, coming May 2016.

This Nordic drinking horn is a cause for much concern between Sara and Armaeus. It reminded me of the legend about Nostradamus' skull...

This week's drinking snippet is brought to us in part by

  1. Have you ever read Black Lirs by Alessandra Torres? I think you would like it :D maybe, though it's not UF.

  2. This is definitely a series I want to try. I even have the first book on y phone, I just need to make time for it now!

  3. Sigh. It's what I'm hoping for in The Others series by Anne Bishop. Though, to be fair, there hasn't been any first base slides in the recent books.

  4. I really need to try this series mainly if it's a great UF one!

  5. I like what you're saying about character growth in her and then the big twist and her life is a lie.

  6. LOL Nope. Blue balls are *not* fun! ;) This series reminds me of Karen Chance's Cassie Palmer series with its pacing, tension, and blue balls! ;) I'm glad you're enjoying the story, Braine...for the most part. *Fingers crossed* that clothes melt in the next installment! :D

  7. Blue balls...LOL I always like getting started with a good laugh.

  14. I still have to read the prequel, I picked it up when you reviewed the previous book in this series. Sounds like this is another great book in this series. I like the sound of the tension and the twist regarding her identity. And I love a good slow building romance, but yeah they can be frustrating too sometimes, lol. Great review!

  15. This looks like a great series. I really need to try it. Yet another series you're adding to my TBR pile, Braine. :-)
