Naughty Nooners with Anne Calhoun & Laura Griffin

I had a busy weekend prepping and celebrating Easter with family and friends that I barely had time to read properly with a full-length book for a good amount of time. But I had to feed the beast and these two novellas were the perfect compromise at the time.

The SEAL's Secret Librarian by Anne Calhoun | Alpha Ops 2
Novella | Contemporary Romance | March 1, 2016 | Swerve
Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

Another no frills sexy shorty featuring a freaky librarian and an ex-SEAL/Graduate student. The SEAL's Secret Librarian is adrenalin charged from motorcycle cruising to skydiving, casual hook-ups and public sex, to near fatal brushes. For a short novella, Anne Calhoun sure made me short of breath.

I love how librarian Erin and soulja boy Jack started their fling, Erin's ballsy attitude had me wishing I have her daring. As a recent divorcee, Erin is living her life to the fullest, ticking items off her bucket list. It's convenient that Jack is around to help her out because the dude made things very exciting. I didn't like the conflict, I felt it shallow and a bit idiotic of Erin to do so, thankfully Jack took control of the situation and everything is happy once again.

Edge of Surrender by Laura Griffin | Alpha Crew 2
Novella | Romantic Suspense | March 28, 2015 | Pocket Star
Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

This half I'm giving 3.5. The chase is good, the climax heart pounding, but I wish Ryan and Emma engaged the villain more. We've been teased with this big bad guy, terrorizing Emma across continents, yet it told more than it showed. And I want a big confrontation complete with raining ammos and powder burns a la Jason Bourne

Another surprise is the unconventional ending. I like it makes sense, realistic, and rational, but given everything that went down, it felt kinda rushed and hanging. Not sure if we'll meet these two again, I hope we do because Ryan and Emma need a proper HEA.

That said, I give Alpha Crew 4 stars.

  1. I know how much you love ACalhoun. I'm going to have to read her. And Erin is a librarian with pluck? I must meet her. I had to giggle over you wanting more action with the villain in LGriffin's story. Sometimes with all that buildup, the payout is deflating.

    1. You know I love villains, I think they're the real heroes of the story. And yes, Erin is your quintessential naughty librarian. I think we bookworms can identify with her 100%

  4. A twofer and both sound decent. Sorry the end on the book two didn't live up to the build up.

    1. I'm thinking the villain might be coming back in book 2 as things are unresolved in that front. Fingers crossed I'll get my facetime with them :)

  7. I so like a librarian/SEAL romance. Though not so enthused about the seemingly made-up conflict.

  16. I like novella's as they are so easy to fit in your reading schedule and you can read them in less time than a full length novel. These both sounds good, but that's too bad there wasn't as much engagement with the villain as you hopes. Great review!

    1. Exactly! I have a lot of days where I just want to unwind and read a story that won't take me days to finish. Novellas are perfect for those types of mood

  20. Oh these two authors are on my "Authors to Try" list! I think I'll have to get them both since they're novellas and I can squeeze them in faster than full length novels. I'm really into romantic suspense and historical romance right now. Plus those covers are eye catching.
