Now trapped, Adriana must hide her identity and escape before she loses her life in the hands of her mortal enemies.

*Setting* Unknown Kingdom where Mages and Demons are mortal enemies

DEMON PRINCESS is the first installment in the Demon Kingdom Fairy Tales trilogy by author Kassandra Lynn. With her father and her brother missing, 18-year old Princess Adrianna Dalman has been named the temporary Demon King by the Cerus Council of Demons. When she is suddenly summoned by a mage named Aldric Vandeholt, and bond to him as his summon beast, Adri finds that she has a long road ahead of her to get back to her own realm.

In being summoned, Adri becomes the first demon royalty to ever be summoned. Something that is not supposed to happen. In this world, if a mage dies, the summon beast dies as well. Mages have all sorts of summon beasts from phoenix, to dragons. Adri isn't exactly unarmed or a pushover. With a magical staff she can do all sorts of magical spells. A majority of this story is about Adri trying to find a way to break her bond with Aldric, and keeping her heart from falling for the only one who seems to genuinely care about what happens to her....Keldrin.

Adrianna perhaps is a bit on the sheltered side having absolutely no training in mortal combat, or fighting. It comes across as though Adrianna was kept sheltered from the demon realm by her family and guards, and finds herself in the mortal realm against her will where she has to think on her feet. While Aldric is just plain mean spirited and obviously has an agenda when it comes to Adri, Keldrin is kind, and brave, and caring even though he barely understands what Adrianna really is.

There is an interesting twist to the story that Lynn creates. In this world, there are savior bloods, wisemen (only 1 at a time), and warriors who work in tandem to defeat demons. But, what happens when the three of them plus Adrianna are forced to work together as they travel to the barren lands? Action, adventure, and lots of interesting ideas for perhaps the next installment in this trilogy.

DEMON PRINCESS at 161 pages, is a quick but steady read. While the story and trilogy has a lot of potential, I dare say that I would have liked to have more world building, especially when it comes to the Demon Realm, and who exactly King Solomon is and what age this is supposed to represent. While this book is not necessarily one that relies heavily on romance, it is one that perhaps can end up that way if the author resolves other more important issues first.

  2. sorry to see you didn't have more worldbuilding. THe idea looks good though even if it's also quite fast. I'm curious to see what you think og the sequel.

  4. Sounds like a prequel, where a foundation is being laid for the next book.

  5. I think the lack of world building here would stop me from wanting to continue the series.

  7. I think the short length and lack of world building would not work for me.

  8. I hadn't heard of this one before. I'm not sure I'd mind the short length but the lack of world building is maybe a sign it should have been longer with more details.
