Mercy Thompson has been hailed as “a heroine who continues to grow and yet always remains true to herself.”* Now she’s back, and she’ll soon discover that when the fae stalk the human world, it’s the children who suffer...
Tensions between the fae and humans are coming to a head. And when coyote shapeshifter Mercy and her Alpha werewolf mate, Adam, are called upon to stop a rampaging troll, they find themselves with something that could be used to make the fae back down and forestall out-and-out war: a human child stolen long ago by the fae.
Defying the most powerful werewolf in the country, the humans, and the fae, Mercy, Adam, and their pack choose to protect the boy no matter what the cost. But who will protect them from a boy who is fire touched?
And I don't mean that because Mercy and Adam found themselves as accidental adoptive parents to a human changeling who has been living in Underhill for centuries and has managed to get out blessed with unbelievable potent fire power that the fae are now coveting. Whew! That's a long sentence but that's essentially the main plot of FIRE TOUCHED and boy, was this episode explosive in more ways than one! The politics amongst the fae and werewolves, and with each other, is once again hanging in the balance, but give it to Adam and his Columbia Basin Pack to save the day (and the world) from more devastation. The action and fight scenes are stupendous that my heart got a good work out just from reading. Too bad my FitBit doesn't recognize reading this as "active minutes".
But perhaps the best part of FIRE TOUCHED is Mercy and Adam's continuously evolving love story. Adam and Mercy's relationship has been contentious in the beginning and Mercy's insecurity for being a coyote in a pack of wolves didn't help matters either. Then there was the issue involving Christy, the ex-wife from Hell, but now that's all done and sorted out, it's pure marital bliss between our werewolf and coyote pair. Or as least as blissful as it can be. It's been very PG between these two for the past 8 books and some novellas, and it still is, yet they managed to steam up my e-reader in their own loving way. Adam is getting sexier and sexier with every book that comes out and for her part, Mercy's getting more confident and her sense of belonging to the pack is stronger than ever before. Adam made this book everything for me, I want my own one too!
If I (Adam) hear about any of you saying anything to my mate (Mercy) that is in the least bit disrespectful, I will end you. no warnings, no second chances. I will end you.
FIRE TOUCHED brought a lot of feels from me ranging from excitement to nervousness, to them swoony butterflies. I was only a quarter done and yet my copy is lit up like a Christmas tree from all the quotable quotes! This book is perfection as far as the action goes, the display of power is impressive and humbling even, the loyalty among Adam's pack is touching as always, the plot is wonderfully developed, Mercy and Adam's relationship is sublime, there is nothing here that I would change! I also love how Adam's pack is getting more diverse in that it's more inclusive and less exclusive, making them more powerful and possibly a threat to the other packs. I won't be surprised if PBriggs' does a plot twist that would peg the packs against each other.
FIRE TOUCHED is yet another reason why Mercedes Thompson is one of my all time favorite UF series. It's incomparable in its uniqueness as it's both an emotionally affecting series and exhilarating at the same time. PBriggs has outdone herself once again and it goes without saying that I'm excited to read more!
