Suped Up: Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs

Series: Mercy Thompson 9
Format: eGalley
Release Date: March 1, 2016
Publisher: Ace Books
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Mercy Thompson has been hailed as “a heroine who continues to grow and yet always remains true to herself.”* Now she’s back, and she’ll soon discover that when the fae stalk the human world, it’s the children who suffer...

Tensions between the fae and humans are coming to a head. And when coyote shapeshifter Mercy and her Alpha werewolf mate, Adam, are called upon to stop a rampaging troll, they find themselves with something that could be used to make the fae back down and forestall out-and-out war: a human child stolen long ago by the fae.

Defying the most powerful werewolf in the country, the humans, and the fae, Mercy, Adam, and their pack choose to protect the boy no matter what the cost. But who will protect them from a boy who is fire touched?

Is it just me or is FIRE TOUCHED the hottest book in all of the series?

And I don't mean that because Mercy and Adam found themselves as accidental adoptive parents to a human changeling who has been living in Underhill for centuries and has managed to get out blessed with unbelievable potent fire power that the fae are now coveting. Whew! That's a long sentence but that's essentially the main plot of FIRE TOUCHED and boy, was this episode explosive in more ways than one! The politics amongst the fae and werewolves, and with each other, is once again hanging in the balance, but give it to Adam and his Columbia Basin Pack to save the day (and the world) from more devastation. The action and fight scenes are stupendous that my heart got a good work out just from reading. Too bad my FitBit doesn't recognize reading this as "active minutes".

But perhaps the best part of FIRE TOUCHED is Mercy and Adam's continuously evolving love story. Adam and Mercy's relationship has been contentious in the beginning and Mercy's insecurity for being a coyote in a pack of wolves didn't help matters either. Then there was the issue involving Christy, the ex-wife from Hell, but now that's all done and sorted out, it's pure marital bliss between our werewolf and coyote pair. Or as least as blissful as it can be. It's been very PG between these two for the past 8 books and some novellas, and it still is, yet they managed to steam up my e-reader in their own loving way. Adam is getting sexier and sexier with every book that comes out and for her part, Mercy's getting more confident and her sense of belonging to the pack is stronger than ever before. Adam made this book everything for me, I want my own one too!

If I (Adam) hear about any of you saying anything to my mate (Mercy) that is in the least bit disrespectful, I will end you. no warnings, no second chances. I will end you.

NUDGE!

FIRE TOUCHED brought a lot of feels from me ranging from excitement to nervousness, to them swoony butterflies. I was only a quarter done and yet my copy is lit up like a Christmas tree from all the quotable quotes! This book is perfection as far as the action goes, the display of power is impressive and humbling even, the loyalty among Adam's pack is touching as always, the plot is wonderfully developed, Mercy and Adam's relationship is sublime, there is nothing here that I would change! I also love how Adam's pack is getting more diverse in that it's more inclusive and less exclusive, making them more powerful and possibly a threat to the other packs. I won't be surprised if PBriggs' does a plot twist that would peg the packs against each other.

FIRE TOUCHED is yet another reason why Mercedes Thompson is one of my all time favorite UF series. It's incomparable in its uniqueness as it's both an emotionally affecting series and exhilarating at the same time. PBriggs has outdone herself once again and it goes without saying that I'm excited to read more!

  6. I was so glad to see Adam finally lay down the law not only with Christy, but with the pack too. The way he handled the pack was perfect. After what happened in the previous book, I thought it was about time that Adam stepped up and really stood behind Mercy. This was a great addition to the series. I think you're right, it might be the best one yet. Great review.

    1. So true! The wolves and Christy are so stubborn so his speech is so definitive. He will end you! I'm even more in love!

  8. I can't believe I have most of the series on my shelf but have still only read the first book.

I do follow the reviews so I'm happy things are better with Mercy and Adam this time. I know people were upset in the last book.

  10. I am so glad I am caught up on this series finally. I really liked this one too. The scene with Adam telling the Pack off was great. Christy really needs to go away, though.

    1. I actually like her in the big scheme of things. She's annoying but she keeps things in the marriage front interesting. And of course there's Jesse so that adds another layer to the family dynamics

    1. This series is so PG, if it goes R it's from the violence never on the romance part. I'm happy to see the couple flirt so much! Lol

  22. Skimmed your review. Thanks for it by the way. I've had this one pre-ordered, Mercy Thompson series is auto-buy for me, but I have not read it yet since I'm doing March Take Control of Your TBR, so once that's done Fire Touched is going to be a book bing... Wow that was a long sentence. ^_^

  23. I loved this book. I usually re-read the whole series when a new book comes out, but I was so excited about this one that I only re-read Night Broken. This is the second time we have been left with the possibility that Mercy may be pregnant. Not fair.I cry foul. Really! I sure hope so, but a pregnancy scare in the first part of the next book would work. At least then I wouldn't feel as cheated if she is not pregnant. You can only do that so many times before you have to cough up the real thing. I found it almost impossible to put the book down in the beginning. Good thing there was a rest stop written in. I needed a few hours of sleep. Just like the Fae, I am not all about the change, but it is exciting. I can't wait for the next book. I keep saying that I won't read it till closer to the next release so I won't have as long to wait. After all these years you would think it would get easier to wait but nope! I made it two weeks. A record for me. And of course I was not disappointed. Congrats Patricia Briggs on another winner.
