Liked It: Find Me, Remember Me, and Keep Me by Michelle Mankin

3-part Contemporary Romance
January 18, 2016
Tempest Series Spin-off

Almost forty-one-year-old Annabelle Morris, wife to multi-billionaire record label executive Charles Morris of Zenith Productions, and mother of two is at a crossroads in her life.

Separated from her husband after walking in on him having sex in the public restroom of a charity event she was hosting, she has arrived on the island of St. John alone and rejected, determined to re-evaluate her life and her marriage. She's tired of being her husband’s showpiece while he pretends she doesn't exist. She's tired of trying to make their marriage work for the sake of their two teenage boys.

When she meets Johnny Lightning, a sexy but mysterious piano-playing, bearded sailor, she is tempted to break vows she has never before broken. But Johnny is much younger than her and seems to be hiding more than a few secrets of his own. From the laid-back sandy beaches of the Caribbean to the elite circles of Dallas high society, Annabelle is forced to make critical choices.

Is a chance for happiness worth the risk of giving up the life she has always known? Worth jeopardizing her own and possibly even her children's future?
In the end, will she stay on her present course or brave a new and uncharted one?

Find Me, Remember Me, and Keep Me is a full and complete novel in three separate parts.
A standalone Tempest spin-off.

I am a Michelle Mankin fan. I don't seek rock star romances or music-related novels, but I find myself enjoying her books even if some of the characters have... Temperaments.

FIND ME, REMEMBER ME, and KEEP ME is MMankin's latest novel. Part of her Black Cat Records universe, this three-part second chance at love, rock star romance is intense, passionate, and drama filled.

FIND ME: I have to be honest, it took me a while to finish this mini-series because part 1 turned me off no thanks to the insta-love between Anna and Johnny. Which I would've been able to overlook if not for Anna's circumstances.

FIND ME opens with Anna on her way to St. John's island to escape her messy private life. She's on the brink of divorcing her cheating husband and wants to clear her head in this tropical Paradise. Johnny who owns the villa she'll be staying at and is the brother of her best friend, picked Anna up from the airport and was nothing but hostile to her with no provocation. In less than 24 hours with vague explanations, these two started an affair and was this short of declaring everlasting love for each other.

I GET IT. Both of them are in a vulnerable place, they saw something they liked and went for it for a chance at happiness. That said, Anna is in a bad place and wants a redo. Granted Johnny is a good guy but she doesn't know that yet at this point. Slight case of TSTL which also knocked down a few sympathy points from me. No wonder she's in this mess because Anna doesn't really THINK. None of her horrible experience with her soon to be ex really sunk in and made her even a little less skeptical.

I know I sound so cynical.

After a couple of weeks, I then decided to pick the books back up and proceeded with REMEMBER ME. Part two is all about Anna and her situation redeemed her a bit in my eyes. But as the girl isn't exactly whip-smart, it frustrates me to see her play the victim because she definitely has the upper hand in this situation if only she THINKS about it long enough.

Agreeing to try and work it out with her husband, Charles, Anna tried to play the good wife. But Charles' sins kept haunting them not to mention the dude is a major asshole so I can't blame Anna for spurning his advances. Plus she's obviously in love with Johnny so at least, she's faithful to him in that sense despite this confounding love triangle.

KEEP ME is where it all goes down and it's as passionate as it's dramatic. I love Johnny's steadfast attitude as Anna, once again, isn't thinking and just allowed herself to be led around and be victimized by Charles. She eventually managed to sucker punch Charles which I think she should've done in the beginning. It all ended happily for Anna and Johnny and they lived blissfully ever after.

I liked this romance even if there are some parts that irked me like the insta love, constant label dropping, and Anna's  damsel in distress role. I love the conflict MMankin created for the couple, it's very antagonistic but surprisingly not too angsty (for my tastes), and Johnny really carried the novel even if most of the story was told through Anna's POV.  By the end, I too am in love with Johnny Lightning. Good looks aside, he is very earnest and is a no-nonsense guy, it's impossible not be charmed by him.

Ultimately I'm glad I didn't give up on this story. It has its flaws, but MMankin strongly championed Anna and Johnny's love. And even with my cold heart, I still am a hopeless romantic and in this case, these two managed to win me over.

Are you Mrs. Morris?” The driver, a heavily bearded man wearing a Quiet Mon Pub ball cap, peered at me through his wraparound sunglasses. In his late twenties or early thirties, he looked much younger than I had imagined a caretaker to be.
I nodded and moved toward the jeep.
“You ready to go?” He dipped his shaded gaze slowly, sliding it over me. “Or do you need some more time at the jewelry store so you can find a more expensive watch with bigger diamonds?”
“No, I’m ready.” I frowned at the snide comment that implied I was as status conscious and shallow as all those social-climbers I had such contempt for. It was an unkind and unwarranted remark. He didn’t really know me. How could he presume to after only one glance? Then again, I looked at myself every day in the mirror and hardly knew who I was anymore.
“You’re late,” he complained. “You’re lucky I decided to swing back by the dock one more time, especially since the ferry’s been in for over a half hour. Still I wouldn’t have wanted to miss that fancy dress and the sun reflecting off that flashy watch of yours. Get in.” He gestured with his chin toward the passenger side. Moving my bag to one arm, I grabbed the handle and yanked, but the door wouldn’t open.
“Probably used to your chauffeur opening the door for you, huh?” He raised his bearded chin and lifted his shaded eyes to the heavens as if petitioning the island gods for patience. “It usually works better if you unlock it first, fancy face. The power feature is broken. You’ll have to do it manually.” His voice was a low baritone, but the insinuation was as unpleasant as his lack of manners.
I blew the humidity dampened curls out of my eyes and did as he suggested. “Why even bother to lock it?” I grumbled once I was in the seat, twisting around to grab the seatbelt.
“Because hardly anyone ever sits there,” he answered absently, glancing in the side mirror. He scanned a quick look for traffic and then pulled away from the curb.
I can certainly understand why, I thought sarcastically as I settled into my seat. He meticulously steered the vehicle around the busy shopping area alongside the dock, and I took advantage of his distraction to look him over. He wasn’t bad. Well, at least from what I could see of his face underneath his untrimmed beard, thick mustache, and long layers of unkempt midnight black hair barely contained by the ball cap. He reminded me of Pierce Brosnan. Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, to be more specific. Well, if I wanted to get really technical about it, Pierce Brosnan as James Bond in to Die Another Day after he had been captured and tortured for fourteen months by the North Koreans without the benefit of a hairstylist or a razor.
In other words…quite possibly hot.
But who could tell what was lurking under all that scrunge?
Maybe instead of Pierce Brosnan, the guy was actually Steve Buschemi. I chanced a second look to be sure…and felt a delicious, rippling heat along my spine.

Definitely not Steve Buschemi under there.

  1. Sounds good, well not that tstl moment

  2. Your cold heart, huh? I think one of the things I enjoyed the most with this serial was that the heroine was close to my age :D I love it when an author takes a 40-something female character and shows the world that there is still much to be done, even in the romance department ;)
    Lexxie @ (un)Conventional Bookviews

    1. I love that too, so many books that features young girls. It's great to meet a slightly older heroine who gets another chance at HEA

  3. I didn't pay attention that the names of the covers weren't the same I thought it was the sam one 3 times. Other than that, it sounds like the romantic aspect interesting.

    1. Yeah, this is a serial so you can pace it according to your mood :)

  4. Braine! I'm so, so happy you decided to finish this series and that Mankin could warm that cold heart of yours with Anna and Johnny! bwahahaha You know how I feel about this couple but I get where you're coming from as well. I'm just giddy you didn't give up on them. And I love your review! <3

    1. I'm happy I didn't give up either. I just can't stand insta-love and that tarnished the whole romance for me. Also the label dropping? Gah!

  5. I read the first one (won it) and I liked it but I am not a fan of a serial format. I am still on the fence if I will pick up books 2 and 3.

  6. Glad you didn't give up on it either and that in the end up end up liking it more. I do love it when that happens.

  7. Hmm..... I don't think this is one for me, the insta love and drama are two things that drive me nuts in a romance.

  8. All the parts in this one sound very tempting! I don't think Anna is the kind of heroine I like, but it's good to hear she seems to redeem herself towards the end. Glad you liked the series overall!

    1. I'm a hopeless romantic, I can only be glad that she got a good man for a change

  9. I'm planning on DNF'ing a book due to instalove going overboard so I think I'll steer clear of this one.

  10. I'm so glad this won you over! I don't think this one is for me. TSTL is just not on my agenda atm. I have a feeling I would dnf these before I got to the goods. :)

  11. I liked the excerpt but it didn't grab me the way I like it to. Glad you liked it though.

  12. I don't think I'd like this one that much, based on your review. It's good that you like it. Great review!

  13. Nice review(s) Braine I do like Rock Star Romance, okay some of them.

  14. Thanks for your honest thoughts. It's nice that you ended up enjoying the overall story and were happy to have read it. I think the MC would drive me a bit crazy though!

    1. She wasn't that bad to be honest. I just had a hard time putting myself in her shoes the whole way. Like I'd be more cautios and discerning

  15. Oh man. I was so curious about these books. Bummer that you didn't enjoy is quite as much! I can totally understand tho. I feel like Anna is going to drive me batshit cray.

    1. I think you'll be nicer to these two than I was hahaha

  16. Replies
    1. I am curious as to who he is. He is rocking all that hair really well

  17. I don't really read a lot of music or rock star romances, usually only if it's an author I already know or a series I heard good things about. That's too bad about the insta-love and you would except her experience with her soon to be ex made her a bit more sceptical or less fast to fall in love, although it does sound like the author still wrote it believable. It sounds like the second and third book where better than the first one. I am glad to hear you still mostly enjoyed this one even though you had some issues with it as well. Great review!

  18. This was one of the covers I was seriously loving on but I know I'd want to be yelling PUT IT ALL IN ONE BOOK!!! lol Glad it won you over for the most part :D
