So I finally popped my Sophie Jordan cherry and it was glorious! I've been hearing fantastic stuff about her, it seems this lady can write ANYTHING, from historical to new adult, to YA fantasy, and would ace it every single time. I thought I'd start with her historical romances and I'm glad I did because not only is The Debutante Files utterly delightful and sexy, it also whet my appetite to read (or hoard) more historical romances. Like most of you, the historical romance genre was my gateway drug to my reading addiction, but it's been a long time since I felt the desire to read books in this genre. Until now, and for that I want to thank SJordan.

A GOOD DEBUTANTE'S GUIDE TO RUIN: This is a step-sibling romance. I have to admit, I got nervous because... ick! It's just a step away from being incest IMO. But this wasn't anything like that at all because Declan, the Duke of Banbury, and his stepsister, Rosalie Hughes, didn't really grow up together so they didn't really have a sibling relationship.

I enjoyed this one very much, Declan and Rosalie's push and pull was tense as both of them were honoring the technicalities of their relationship. It didn't last long though because there's an undeniable attraction despite the push back from both parties. The conflict was great too, Rosalie's mother got in the way and tried to ruin Rosalie and Declan's union. Oh boy, that lady is evil and is not fit to be a mother. Rosalie's mother is the ick here and not our happy couple. It was a nerve-wracking climax-conflict-resolution which ended happily.

AN HEIRESS FOR ALL SEASONS: This is a novella, which is a surprise because the series features Declan and his best buds. This one features Will, the Earl of Merlton, and his American heiress, Violet Howard. This may be a novella, but SJordan delivered the same level of tension like in the previous book. Violet didn't really want to shop for a husband as she wants to marry for love. Will disagreed though and really charmed the bloomers off Violet. Girl didn't really stood a chance. There was good, though predictable, twist, it's still enjoyable although I would've preferred this to be longer.

ALL THE WAYS TO RUIN A ROGUE: This is my favorite story of the three. Aurelia and Max, Declan's cousin and bestfriend respectively, has been on each other's throats since book 1. We see the tension and friction building up between these two and I absolutely love their love story! Aurelia, considered a spinster, is too spirited and opinionated to be considered marriageable by her peers. She's always been in love with Max, but his rakish ways got in the way of what could be. So for years, these two has been bickering until they're finally faced with the reality that they have a thing

There was a lot of silly confrontations, sexy encounters, and multiple back and forths between these two. Aurelia is so sassy while Max isn't letting her off the hook quite easily. These two went toe to toe and I was giggling and swooning over their developing romance like a lovesick teen!

The Debutante Files is absolutely fantastic. The dialogue is witty, the romance piping hot, the tension delicious, I can't wait for the next book. I don't know who the next couple is, Declan's crew are all settled. I might have missed it, but SJordan didn't leave clues as to who the next couple might be. If you have any gossip about this series, please have mercy and leave a comment below. I want to know who's HEA we're getting next!

  5. I really liked the first book in this series but not the 2nd one. I haven't read the novella yet though but I need to because she writes great romances. :)
I'm so glad this series worked so well for you, Braine! :D
You should check out her latest YA Reign of Shadows. I really liked it.
I don't have any news about who the next book might be about but you could ask her on Twitter? She's good about responding there. :)

  6. I'm glad your cherry popping was so glorious, Braine. ;) I'm a fan of Jordan as well but haven't read her HRs. I did get back to reading more HR last year and remembered why I loved it so much, so I'll give this series a shot. :D

    1. I needed that reminder, this genre is just awesome. Although I have to say it changed a lot. I remember when the heroines would hold off on their V-card till after the wedding, wasn't the case in the ones I've read. I guess readers want instant gratification now while I still prefer that hold-out to prolong the tension.

  8. Fun! I've only read her NA but I've been wanting to try her HR.

I don't know why but step-sibling romances don't bother me at all lol As long as there's no actual blood relations involved (it's only through marriage) I'm fine with it.

    1. I'm going to try her NA next.

It depends, like if they grew up almost as siblings like their parents got married when they were still toddlers or something and end up later on is just icky. Like makes me wonder how long have you guys been lusting after each other? When did the innocence end? Lol
