Loved It: Blood Kiss by J.R. Ward

Series: Black Dagger Legacy 1
Format: Paperback
Release Date: December 1, 2015
Publisher: Signet
Source: Publisher
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Paradise, blooded daughter of the king’s First Advisor, is ready to break free from the restrictive life of an aristocratic female. Her strategy? Join the Black Dagger Brotherhood’s training center program and learn to fight for herself, think for herself…be herself. It’s a good plan, until everything goes wrong. The schooling is unfathomably difficult, the other recruits feel more like enemies than allies, and it’s very clear that the Brother in charge, Butch O’Neal, a.k.a. the Dhestroyer, is having serious problems in his own life.

And that’s before she falls in love with a fellow classmate. Craeg, a common civilian, is nothing her father would ever want for her, but everything she could ask for in a male. As an act of violence threatens to tear apart the entire program, and the erotic pull between them grows irresistible, Paradise is tested in ways she never anticipated—and left wondering whether she’s strong enough to claim her own power…on the field, and off.

Gush & Gripe: Give Credit when Credit is Due

I've been mulling over this topic for some time now because I'm not sure how to present my question and/or pondering that's more probing and curious and less accusatory or provoking.

Debit or Credit?

I'm talking about books and blogging in general. How do you give credit, if at all, to your inspiration and other related ramblings.

#PrayingforParis

It's been a busy couple of days. I thought... rather, I was hoping that today will be a good day. So much for wishful thinking.

To all our blogger friends, Red Iza, Melliane, & Lucie (if you're not mentioned, I apologize, I most likely don't know you live in France) in France and to my French followers, please accept my condolences. This is a tragedy, and once again humanity failed is with this callous act. 2015 started with Je suis Charlie, this year shouldn't end in a similar fashion.

To all the families who lost a loved one, or have a member fighting for their life, the world is praying for you and grieving with you.

Loved It: The Geomancer by Clay and Susan Griffith + Series Gossip

Series: Vampire Empire: A Gareth & Adele Novel 1
Format: PDF
Release Date: November 3, 2015
Publisher: Pyr
Source: Publisher
Genre: Fantasy

The uneasy stalemate between vampires and humans is over. Adele and Gareth are bringing order to a free Britain, but bloody murders in London raise the specter that Adele's geomancy is failing and the vampires might return. A new power could tilt the balance back to the vampire clans. A deranged human called the Witchfinder has surfaced on the Continent, serving new vampire lords. This geomancer has found a way to make vampires immune to geomancy and intends to give his masters the ability to kill humans on a massive scale.

The apocalyptic event in Edinburgh weakened Adele's geomantic abilities. If the Witchfinder can use geomancy against humanity, she may not have the power to stop him. If she can't, there is nowhere beyond his reach and no one he cannot kill.

From a Britain struggling to rebuild to the vampire capital of Paris, from the heart of the Equatorian Empire to a vampire monastery in far-away Tibet, old friends and past enemies return. Unexpected allies and terrible new villains arise. Adele and Gareth fight side-by-side as always, but they can never be the same if they hope to survive.

Hello and welcome back to Talk Supe! Congrats on your new book and series. I'm excited to dive into The Geomancer, I have to admit though, I missed Vampire Empire. Is that going to be a problem or will I be fine starting with The Geomancer and backtracking later on?

Thanks for asking us.

We’ve tailored THE GEOMANCER to be an entry point for new readers to the Vampire Empire world. All characters and settings will be introduced and explained. While existing fans will fall right into the story again without a great deal of repetition, it isn’t really the fourth book of the trilogy. It’s a whole new thing, but with many of the same characters and the same setting as the trilogy. We didn’t want new readers to have to go back to read the original three Vampire Empire books, unless they want to . . . and we certainly recommend they read the trilogy because we’re very proud of it.

Instead, she joins the hotel staff on the rooftop, catching whispers about the hotel’s dark past.

The more Audrey learns about the new people she's met, the more her curiosity grows. She’s torn in different directions—the pull of her past with its overwhelming loss, the promise of a future that holds little joy, and an in-between life in a place that is so much more than it seems…

Quick Hits: Sustained by Emma Chase + Not That Easy by Radhika Sanghani

Sustained by Emma Chase | Legal Briefs 2
Contemporary Romance | August 25, 2015 | Gallery Books
Goodreads | Amazon | Audible | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

It's not fair that a sexy (almost) romcom be so touching, heart rending, and almost sob inducing! ICYMI, SUSTAINED by Emma Chase, is a romance novel written in the male POV. Jake's an accomplished lawyer who's been around the block a few times, and fell for the girl next door, Chelsea, who is saddled with six kids. Not her own, but her recently orphaned nieces and nephews. Quite the recipe right?

And boy was SUSTAINED such a delight to read! First of all, EChase is fast becoming a go-to when it comes to novels written in the male POV. She gets it right, it's not too raunchy, but not timid either. I'm not a man, but I imagine Jake's "voice" is how a typical bright male processes his thoughts and feelings. Not the most suave, but at least he gets it just in the nick of time. Jake totally sold SUSTAINED, I fell for his HEA and thought it was realistic. Now though I love Jake's honesty, he was kind of dramatic at one point. I just felt that the emotional/relationship conflict was a bit much considering Jake and Chelsea have been through a few stuff already when it happened. It felt like drama for the sake of drama and not the commitment issue Jake was trying to sell. Still, I had fun with SUSTAINED, the fact that it tugged my heart strings was a complete yet welcome surprise. If you're soft hearted, tuck a sheet or two of some tissue, you might need it to dab a few random tears.

Not That Easy by Radhika Sanghani | Virgin 2
Contemporary Romance-Chick Lit | November 3, 2015 | Berkley
Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

And more vagina monologues in Radhika Sanghani's sequel to her hilarious and awkward Virgin series. Like the first novel, NOT THAT EASY is peppered with a lot of honest and frequently uncomfortable scenes, conversations, and confessions. Ellie is a girl that you'll love and hate at the same time. She's unapologetic and reeks of desperation, kinda hard to stomach as I'm not sure if our girl is naive or just an idiot. I meant the last one with much affection.

What's the gist? Well, in Virgin, Ellie deperately lost her virginity, and that she did with a bonus STI (ew!). In NOT THAT EASY, Ellie is hell bent on getting the magic "O". And once again, we're regaled with a lot of sex comedy bordering on ignorance. Some were funny, a few were painful, the rest is just a clumsy horror show. I was amused, I was able to relate to some of Ellie's monologues about women and owning one's sexuality, I found Ellie's (cautionary) online dates hilarious, but I can't help but frown at some of the contradictions in terms of Ellie's applications of her sexual theory. To borrow a character's summation, Ellie is like a pubescent boy with sex on her mind 24/7. Overall I was very much entertained inspite of a lot of cringe worthy moments.

RSanghani's series may not be for everyone. There's a lot of vagina jokes and toilet humor, and outrageous situations that will make Ellie somewhat exasperating. I liked the Virgin series' honesty though, and even if it's sort of like a stunted coming-of-age tale, I enjoy Ellie's unabashed ignorance when it comes to sex and her enthusiasm to own her appetite for it.
