DNF: Wicked Ride by Rebecca Zanetti

Series: Realm Enforcers
Format: eGalley
Release Date: June 23, 2015
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Source: Publisher via NetGalley
Genre: Paranormal Romance

If you love the Dark Protectors, these wicked hot Realm Enforcers are for you!

Alexandra Monzelle is a hard-fighting, heat-packing Seattle vice cop, and she’s not much interested in being protected. Her short skirt and sex-kitten heels are tools to lure her suspects into talking about the deadly new drug hitting the streets. She can take care of herself and then some. Unfortunately, she can’t seem to get that through to Kellach Dunne.

Kellach is a fresh import from Dublin, and he’s landed at the heart of a vicious motorcycle club that deals in guns, narcotics, and mayhem. He’s all male, all rough power—and all interference in her damn investigation. Maybe he’s one of the good guys. Maybe not. Lex knows an affair with an immortal like him would risk everything. No matter how delicious he looks.

Let me preface this review by saying I'm disappointed that my first Rebecca Zanetti novel is a bust. I had high hopes for WICKED RIDE because a lot of you adore Dark Protectors. Since this is a new series, I thought I'd fare with Realm Enforcers better versus catching up with her other series.

It starts with Alexandra. I can't stand her! After Kell saver her life, she then hauls his ass to jail because she figured he'll help her take down his MC, a group her force has been after some time. That ploy didn't work because her charges won't stick. I find that very ungrateful for her part when she could've "milked the cow" a different way. Then would always charge at Kell due to some information she got while investigating this Apollo case, putting him on the defensive and immediately painting Kell as this bad guy BEFORE she gets concrete information. Makes her an uneffective cop IMO. Lex just tried too hard to be a badass, always on the offensive even when the situation doesn't call for it. I just got frustrated eventually.

WICKED RIDE also has a bad case of "let's fuck our problems, issues, miscommunication away. Orgasms will make it disappear." Back to Lex charging at Kell with some accusation or another. Her allegations don't even stick because Kell would then give her smoldering looks, starts playing with her boobs... well you know what happens next. Lex just ended up looking like a sex starved dummy to me, and Kell a manipulative and seductive bastard for not addressing Lex's trust issues and would instead fuck with her in more ways than one.

The sex was nothing but a distraction. There's not much info about these witches almost halfway through the mark, and this Apollo case is moving at snail pace. Not for me.

But don't take my word for it! Check out other reviews below, they loved WICKED RIDE. Listen to them instead.

  3. I've listened to Zanetti Sin Brothers series and enjoyed it. You might like it better and there's only 4 books and it's finished. I have the 1st book in the Dark Protectors series on audio for review. I hope I enjoy it. I wanted to give this one a try but since it's a spin-off of the DP series I thought I'd start there first.

  8. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy this, Braine! I just took the paranormal and went with it, and I enjoyed the smoking chemistry between Kell and Lex :) I hope your next read will be much better for you!

  9. Hi Braine I've heard good and bad about this author. But my motto is life's too short to read a bad book so Good for you to DNF it!
I haven't read her but lately it seems like all biker books have been getting dnf'd. hmmm

    1. I can sort of picture the blow back, and though Kell deserves it, it makes Lex even more idiotic lol

  13. UGH yea I would have issues with this too. Come on, you can't solve life's problems with sex. Plus the miscommunication trope is obnoxious since it is over used.

  16. I am sorry to hear you had a DNF, I always dislike DNFíng books. Sounds like the main characetr is very unlikable, I don't like it when characters are too offensive. And the pace sounds very slow. I can definitely see why you DNF'd this one. I hope your next read is better!

  18. I hate when you get DNF books. When the main character is unlikeable, that's a bad sign. Sometimes if you don't like the characters, you are not going to feel it in the book. Good review SW.

    1. I've read and liked books where I dislike the MC's (Mortal Instruments), but at least there are other things going on for it that made up for the annoying characters.

  20. Sounds like a pass for me! Sorry you had to go through such a disappointing and meaningless book. I hate it when sex is there just for having sex.

  21. Aw, I'm sorry this one just did not work out! Hopefully you try her other series and enjoy that one - I've heard some great things about it. I love romance, but it sounds like the sex was used in the wrong way to solve everything. Darn! Thanks for the honest review though.
Have a great weekend, Braine :)

  22. LOL! I must have been in a more generous mood when I read it. The heroine struck me the same way, but I kept reading b/c I enjoyed running into familiar characters from Dark Protectors. Oh, and the witch element is a carry over from that series. I didn't realize how thin the explanation was b/c I had all that background knowledge already. Bummer this one was your first shot. The Sins Brothers is my favorite of her series, but the first book was iffy for me before I settled in. The same thing happened with Dark Protectors so maybe its a pattern. ;)

    1. That's good to know! And that's probably it, I was thinking that since this is a spin-off she'll include some BG for people who don't know any better i.e. ME!

Sigh, at least I'm not the one who thought Lex was a ninny. Thanks, Sophia!

  24. I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't read Zanetti. I find her PNR extremely formulaic and without substance which is why I avoid trying any more of her books. :-)
