An exhibitionist who's waited her whole life to be seen …
After her stepmother is abducted, Danielle Walker has no choice but to follow the kidnapper's cryptic instructions. Under the guise of a sex slave trainee, she must infiltrate Cole DeMarco's BDSM club and find evidence of his offshore bank account … or she'll never see her stepmother alive again. But Master Cole is no stranger, and despite the dark past they share, Danielle cannot resist his magnetic pull.

The voyeur who's always been watching …
As Danielle begins uncovering Cole's secrets, the artistic voyeur arouses her deepest desires, and she surrenders to a fiery passion she never expected. But with time running out to save her stepmother, Danielle and Cole will face off against an evil growing more ruthless by the day … and discover a twisted web of lies, betrayal, and murder that neither saw coming.

RED HANDED is yet another thrilling sequel to Shelly Bell's Benediction series. The tone is very different from the first one, White Collared, and though there are familiar faces, RED HANDED can be read as standalone.

The novel is way kinkier than its predecessor, SBell takes us to the anals of Benediction where all the fuckery happens. Expect a lot of "plays" to happen here, led by the curvy and vivacious Danielle Walker, as she fulfills her deepest, darkest, most carnal fantasies, starring Benediction Master and former family friend, Cole DeMarco.

And thought this is a story of seduction, something dark and dangerous lurks in the background. Danielle might be on a sexual journey, but her reasons for being in Benediction goes beyond submissive training. She needs to ransom her stepmother from her abductors and only Cole can help her. Expect a few twists, turns, and vicious betrayals here to balance all the sexy times. Also, I advice you read RED HANDED in a place where you can fan yourself (discreetly or in earnest) because this is one VERY HOT read!

Read the first book in the Benediction series also published by Avon Red Impulse. White Collared is a four-part serialized erotic thriller about a young law student who must go undercover at a sex club to prove her client is not guilty of murder. Get more information at www.shellybell.com

I loved White Collared, it was heart pounding from the thrilling mystery down to the smexy stuff. It's a stellar serial, cliffies in every ending, designed to make you grab the next one and keep on going.

If you like Lisa Renee Jones or Shiloh Walkers sexy romantic suspense novels, add Shelly Bell's Benediction to that list and you got an amazing trifecta.

Erotic v Romantic

by Shelly Bell

A couple years ago, I was reading a legal thriller and when it got to the love scene, it was behind closed doors. Maybe it was because I was used to reading romance, but I felt cheated, especially since the romantic relationship was pivotal to the character’s development. As a result, I decided to write something suspenseful and sensual.

For me, erotic suspense must have three story arcs, all relying on the other for full impact. Without the others, the book falls apart. These arcs are the mystery/suspense, the romance and the sexual relationship. The latter is the difference between erotic suspense and romantic suspense.

In an erotic romance, the sexual relationship is vital to the plot. The author can’t simply write suspenseful novel with a lot of hot sex. If you could tell the story without the sex, it’s merely a scorching hot romantic suspense. To write a captivating erotic romance of any subgenre, each sexual act must alter both the hero and heroine in some way. In the Benediction series, my heroes support my heroines in their sexual awakening, allowing the women to free their emotional baggage and embrace their sexual nature. Because of the sexual relationship with the heroine, the hero also undergoes significant changes. These changes are critical to the success of the couple’s romance. In RED HANDED, if Danielle and Cole remain the same sexually from the beginning of the book to the end, their future together wouldn’t work.

Suspense is different from a mystery in that there must be an underlying tension throughout the book, keeping the readers on the edge that something dangerous is about to happen. In the Benediction series, the heroines don’t only solve a crime, but also find their own lives in danger. They don’t know who to trust, and although they want to trust the hero, they can’t rule out his guilt, which complicates their romantic relationship. In erotic suspense, the author has to use various techniques to maintain and increase the suspense. It’s not enough to have a murderer or stalker on the loose. Foreshadowing, symbolism, secrets, and red herrings are just a few of the devices that I use to create an air of danger. In my opinion, in the erotic suspense novel, the mystery is what brings the hero and heroine together, the sex is what bonds them, and the romance is what blossoms out of the circumstances. At its core, the erotic suspense novel is a romance. The readers have to want the hero and heroine to end up together. There must be obstacles keeping the hero and heroine from having their happily-ever-after. That’s the romantic arc of the book and it’s just as important as the suspense and sex. Without it, the book falls flat.

Before writing White Collared and RED HANDED, I’d never thought about all the challenges in writing erotic suspense. Aside from making sure all three arcs are strongly intertwined, I’ve found the biggest challenge to be the fact my books unfold over a short period of time. My hero and heroine have to embark in a sexual relationship rather quickly and sometimes, during dangerous situations. It’s required me to get very creative, but in erotic suspense, that’s not necessarily a bad thing!

A sucker for a happy ending, Shelly Bell writes sensual romance often with a bit of kink and action-filled erotic thrillers with high-emotional stakes for her alpha heroes and kick-ass heroines.

She began writing upon the insistence of her husband who dragged her to the store and bought her a laptop. When she’s not working her day job, taking care of her family, or writing, you’ll find her reading the latest smutty romance.

She currently writes for Avon Red Impulse, Loose Id, and Soul Mate Publishing.

  1. Great post. I'm one of those readers that feels cheated with a behind closed doors sex scene so I totally understand the need for erotic romance books...I don't think I've read an erotic suspense yet but this is going on my list! ;)

  2. Couldn't agree more, mystery to get things started, bonding through sex and resulting in love is the perfect formula for an erotic suspense!
