Cherry Popped: Night Prowler, Charley Davidson, WVMP Radio

I always whine about my TBR and sound like a broken record every time I visit y'all's blogs and say I'll try it. Well here it is, the much needed nudge to do it!

CHERRY POPPED is a new feature here at Talk Supe where I catch up on recommended series that has been around for some time now.

Shadow's Edge  | Night Prowler 1 | J.T. Geissinger
June 12, 2012 | Montlake Romance | PNR
Goodreads | Amazon | Audible | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

It's when I featured J.T. Geissinger a while back that I got interested in Night Prowler. Admittedly, I thought J.T. was overselling her series, not that I blame her, one has to be shameless in promoting one's work right? And it was that cheekiness combined with its complex world building that had me eager to grab SHADOW'S EDGE

I'm happy to report that J.T. has every right to do "shameless" promotions because she didn't lie about her description about her badass Ikati panthers. They're lithe, dangerous, seductive, ancient, regal and exotic. Her myth and cosmology has that classic lit feel to it and it is lavish and decadent as promised. SHADOW'S EDGE took my breath away, it's a great introduction to the series, right away I'm embroiled in Ikati politics, prophecies, and romance.

Verdict: No question about it, I will continue on with this series with much enthusiasm.

Read the series 101 here.

First Grave on the Right | Charley Davidson 1 | Darynda Jones
Urban Fantasy | February 1, 2011 | St. Martin's Press
Goodreads | Amazon | Audible | Barnes & Noble | iTunes | Kobo

Yes, I'm one of those readers who have NOT met Charley Davidson but I'm happy to amend that error because we're already acquainted and my first impression of her is as good it as it gets! FIRST GRAVE ON THE RIGHT was so much fun, I mean I want to be molested by the infamous Reyes in my dreams or in the shower or both, too! I love the straightforward backstory of how Charley became a Reaper, her long standing relationship with those around her, how her abilities are explained, simple and complex at the same time, and the mysterious case that is Reyes Farrow. Like who the heck is this guy exactly?!

Verdict: Heck yeah! I will be reading more of this series! It has the best combination of everything "fun" that I love in my books: cocky hero, snarky heroine, dysfunctional secondary characters, brain teasing mystery, the smex is off the charts, need I say more?

Wicked Game | WVMP Radio | Jeri Smith-Ready
March 9, 2009 | Pocket Books | UF
Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

It's been a long ass time since I read a series about vampires and I have to say I was more wary than excited to start Jeri Smith-Ready's WVMP Radio series. BUT a few of my bloggy friends marks this series as their favorite so I decided it's at least worth a shot.

It was quite easy to put myself in Ciara Griffin's shoes because like her, I'm being told that vampires do exist but they're not exactly the archetype. I mean vampires are on top of the otherworldly food chain, the ultimate apex predator. In WVMP Radio they have zombie-like characteristics which I find fresh and believable, it's more amusing than enthralling for me at this point. Aside from the series intro, WICKED GAME's plot was entertaining, I always delight in con themed stories and I wasn't disappointed in this one.

Verdict: I liked this enough but I'm not rushing to read the second one. I find Ciara Griffin an interesting anti-heroine and I'm very curious how she's going to revolutionize the vampires and save them from themselves and the curse of their condition.

I hope you liked the first edition of CHERRY POPPED!

  4. This is such a fantastic idea. I should *probably* do something like it but I'd never be able to keep up .-.

I am so glad you enjoyed your first adventure with Charley though! She is full of win! :D I wasn't as taken by the first book but the sequels were AMAZING. I hope you'll enjoy the rest of the books! :D

  5. Sorry you didn't love WVMP more - it's one of my faves. It gets a little darker as it goes but WG was my favorite so maybe it's not the series for you.

I read the first Charley Davidson and thought it was a lot of fun but never continued for some reason.

    Fab idea for a feature!

I'm one of those blogger friends who has a lot of love for the WVMP series :) I love Ciara, and those pesky vamps who are so different.

    1. Thanks, Lexxie, glad you enjoy this little feature.

WVMP - WG was published 5 years ago and PNR/UF have evolved a lot since so I'm thinking my taste have been preconditioned and changed since? Hopefully book 2 will win me over. I do love its originality though.
