The world will never look the same…

There comes a defining moment in every young person's life that irrevocably shifts their point of view.

Missing by award-winning author Mary Laufer--For a new teacher who still compares herself to her students, the shift in reality comes in the form a missing girl and a false accusation that could cost her more than her career.

The Outlaw by debut author Scott C. Davis--For a young man who settles into a rut that not even his broken marriage can pull him out of, it’s a drifter’s gun to his head.

Drive by author & screenplay writer Nealy Gihan--For an idealistic college student, the point of view shift comes in the form of her parents’ divorce pulling back the curtain on who they really are, shattering everything she thought she knew about love.

My Boyfriend is a Senator by award-winning author Linda Davis--For a recovering addict who's not ready to change, it might just be an unhappy ending to her illicit affair.

The Talisman by bestselling YA & NA author Heather Hildenbrand—For an orphan on the run from monsters, a shift in perception might be discovering the power of prayer as a saving grace against the likes of which no human being has ever seen. If we’re lucky.

In Perception, discover five captivating stories that explore what it means to be a new adult.

I've only read TALISMAN by Heather Hildenbrand so my rating does NOT reflect the entirety of the anthology although the other stories sound interesting, unfortunately I don't have the bandwidth to read all of them as of the moment. Eep!

Anyways, TALISMAN is the last story of Perception. At 10-20 pages tops, TALISMAN is quite a simplistic Angel fantasy story and it starts and ends in the middle of things. All I know is that Avery and Loch are second generation angels who've been recently inducted into the Angel army after successfully keeping the Talisman off the hands of demon spawn.

TALISMAN has an open ending so this could either be a prequel to a new series Heather is planning or it could just be a simple fantasy short story. I enjoyed it enough despite its length and I plan on reading this to my nephew, make angels and praying sound cool, and hopefully help instill the virtue of faith in him in an unconventional but awesome way.

I've been a fan of Heather's for quite some time now and after a lot of changes in her life, this has to be the most exciting one for me. Heather just launched her own publishing company called, Elephantine, and she's here to tell us more about this brand new endeavor of hers.

Elephantine Publishing: Publishing for the People

Don’t you love that feeling? You know, that feeling you get when you’ve reached the last page of your novel and a satisfying smile spreads across your face because it was worth the 300 plus pages of the journey.

Yeah, we love that feeling too. In fact, we love it so much that we started a publishing company in order to provide even more unforgettable stories to the world.

Author of Across the Galaxy, Whisper, and the Dirty Blood series. I write, read, and fuss at my kids. Oh, and I do laundry, lots of laundry. I'm pretty good at it, too. Sometimes I even read WHILE doing laundry - and fussing at my kids. I'm a multi-tasker.

Likes and dislikes? I love vintage tees, hate socks with sandals, and if my house was on fire the one thing I'd grab is my DVR player!

  1. I really enjoy Hildenbramd's writing. So glad you liked this!

    1. Me too, it's subtle but you get invested in it

  2. Replies
    1. I know some people will feel that way BUT it's one of those short stories if you know what I mean.

  3. Well I am curious now to see what Heather has up her sleeve.

    1. Right? I'm also wondering if this is the prequel or teaser to a new series.

  4. I'm not a fan of the open endings :(

    1. Well me too but it didn't bother me here coz of how the story was written and what happened. It's hard to explain, my only comparison is that this is one of those short stories that you decide to write while day dreaming if that makes sense.

  5. I really need to try Heather's writing, I have heard some pretty great things about her. I don't think I will start here though, anthologies can be so hit or miss with me.

    1. Oh yeah, don't! Start with her Dirty Blood series, it's real good!

  6. Wonderfully descriptive writing. She does have what it takes doesn't she?! I could almost see him just from those few words:)

  7. It would drive me insane to not read all the anthology!! But I get it. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hahaha! That's a fun fact! I used to like it but now I just pick/choose the one that interests me.

  8. Oh so short! I have trouble with those especially when open ended. Hope you enjoy the rest of the antho when you get back up and running :)

    1. I'm like that too, maybe she caught me in a good mood coz I didn't mind... but then again that's why I only this 3 stars

  9. I haven't read a book by the author but I usually try anthology when I already follow a series because otherwise I'm a little lost. Maybe I should try a book by her one day!

  10. Talisman sounds interesting, Braine. And I'm thrilled Heather has started her own publishing company! The goal of her company - listening to readers - is great!

  11. Short stories are always tough, especially with open endings. Glad you were able to enjoy this one.
