Naughty Nooners: My Control by Lisa Renee Jones & White Collared: Passion by Shelly Bell

After living a little followed by a fantasy streak, I have to decompress from myth and world buildings and keep it "real" for a moment. As real as it can get anyways.

MY CONTROL and WHITE COLLARED: PASSION are great minute reads, it's filled with sexy angst and twisted crimes of passion. These are good picks for work break reads, semi-long commutes, or even bedtime stories to help you unwind and maybe help rev up your engine with the partner *wink wink*.

My Control by Lisa Renee Jones
Inside Out 4.1 | Novella | Erotica | Pocket Star | Sept. 8, 2014

I am LOVING Mark Compton's novella series! It's revealing, redeeming, romantic (intended alliteration), complicated, and angsty! With his beloved mother's fight for cancer and the media hoopla surrounding Rebecca's disappearance coupled with guilt, Mark's overwhelmed by everything that's happening in his life and one can see that he's about to hit rock bottom soon, self-destructing and probably making a bigger mess of things... but not if Crystal can help it.

MY CONTROL is super short at 49 pages and it's packed with intrigue and the good stuff only Lisa Renee Jones can provide. I do love Crystal, she is a good match for Mark but because the man is a control freak and a Dom through and through, I'm afraid he's forcing his wants and rules on Crystal which thankfully, she's not having. The girl's got balls of steel and at this point, I'm optimistic that Crystal can balance Mark out, exorcise his demons, and maybe set him right again.

I wasn't the biggest Mark Compton fan in the beginning but I am enjoying his side-stories and rooting for him now. I am excited to see where his affair with Crystal will lead but I have a feeling that they have a long ways to go. I'm up the journey anyways so keep it coming LRJones, this reader wants more!

White Collared: Passion by Shelly Bell
White Collared 4 | Serial | Erotica | Avon Impulse | July 15, 2014

-lies darken the soul just a little bit more until there's nothing left

It took me WEEKS to finish PASSION because, surprise! Surprise!, I ended up not liking Kate at all because the girl turned for the S-word (if you know what I mean). So if you remember my previous reviews, I did mention that I'm not really feeling Kate's character but I was hopeful that she would eventually win me over. Yeah that didn't happen however the plot itself more than made up for my disconnect with Kate and I am still recommending White Collared to every reader who loves erotica and/or romantic suspense.

PASSION wrapped up WHITE COLLARED perfectly. I thought the heart pounding scenes were over in Revenge and the last part of the serial will be nothing but a wrap up. Turns out, Shelly Bell's got more up her sleeve and my head REELED with the ultimate revelation in this awesome serial series! I never saw that coming AND thankfully Jaxon, who was an a$$ in part 3, managed to redeem himself in PASSION

I am so tired of BDSM but SBell's got some mean writing skills because the scenes didn't even bother me (except Kate). I love how she managed to line up the kink with the murder mystery, adding a thick layer of excitement to the whole story. SBell is on my radar peeps and she just found another reader/stalker in me.

    1. Hahaha! I'm on a slump, in case you can't tell, and my attention span is very very short as of the moment so novellas are perfect for now.

    1. So true! Serials have evolved, if I can call it that, editors and authors have learned to pack an intriguing story and cut it in such a way that you'll come back for more.

    1. Are you talking about LRJones? Her books are always laced with suspense and as I know you love fantasy as much as I do, you'll find that her books are easy to like because of that.

  8. I wasn't a big Mark fan either, but am curious. I'm planning to read Revealing Us and Rebecca's Lost Journals soon(ish). Then I'll need to read his series!

    1. Yup, I think it has a lot to do with the surrounding stuff and the BDSM was more circumstantial than the center of the story. Shifting the focal point helped a bit

  10. I think I've had If I Were You for awhile now, so maybe it's time I read it. Glad to hear even the shorter books in the series are good.

  14. I'm glad you're enjoying Mark's novellas so well, Braine. I have to get caught up in that series - I DO love it!! As for White Collared, we're gonna have to discuss your dislike of Kate. I read the series because of you but I don't think I had the same issues with Kate as you. I did really like the series overall though. :)
