Bought, Borrowed & Bagged #116 + Boob Tube Round-up

BB&B (Bought, Borrowed and Bagged) is a weekly meme, inspired my The Story Siren and Pop Culture Junkie, where we share with you the books that we have bought, borrowed or bagged (won or gifted) plus a recap of the previous week's reviews, upcoming reviews, on going events and book movie or television news.

BB&B is an homage Barron's Books & Baubles from Karen Marie Moning's smash hit series, Fever.

I lived a little this week which is why I've been in 'n out the blogosphere. I promise it'll be back to "normal" next week, for now these are my new lovelies.

Big & Small

I recently finished LOST GIRL via Netflix, there's a LOT to be desired in terms of effects, acting, and fight choreography. What captivated me is the human element of the series and it feels very Urban Fantasy. I read that the series is about to wrap up, a little saddened but I also feel it's time.

Then I started HAVEN which is like a Supernatural wannabe. I liked the backdrop, made me want to visit Maine but the plot line is a weak so I ended up skipping it.

So I decided to binge watch OUTLANDER. Now I haven't read the books so I don't know how faithful the story is to the text. I do like the lady portraying Claire, she's got a great set of buns. LOL As for the story, it's okay, I'm not swept by it yet, I'm just at the point where I'm still interested and would like to check it out some more.

This rounds up my boob tube time. Do you have any recommendations for me? I need a new series to follow.

  2. I want Gray Bishop, but I need to read Black Rook first. Yay for Red-Blooded. Princess of Thorns looks really good.

  3. Congrats on the books! I just started watching Haven as well but I actually like it. I like that it is kind of a fluff watch. ;)
Have you tried Sleepy Hollow yet or Bitten? I really liked both and Sleepy comes back on late this month.

    1. In that case, I should probably watch a few more episodes of Haven, it might just do the trick.

I have watched both Sleepy Hollow and Bitten, enjoyed them and thanks for the head's up on the upcoming new season.

  4. I couldn't get Netflix to play on my laptop so I gave it the boot. I joined Hulu Plus instead. I'll probably do that for a while and then hop back over to Netflix. Hopefully by then the Silverlight/Windows 8.1 issues are worked out.

    1. I like Hulu because it's more recent than Netflix but we didn't continue our Hulu subscription, we can't afford both on top of premium cable.

  5. It's not urban fantasy but Sons of Anarchy is AWESOME. The final season starts in a few days. Bitten is okay, better if you haven't read the book it's based on. There's Supernatural, Once Upon A Time, and Sleepy Hollow.

Most of your books aren't familiar to me but I hope you enjoy them. :)

    1. I stopped watching SoA after S3, it's doing weird things to my head like rooting for the criminals although the human element IS engaging.

I need to catch up with Supernatural and OUaT

  8. Outlander will get better, I promise, Braine :) I've stopped watching Lost Girl after 2 first seasons, and Haven after a few episodes, although the characters were funny. I loved the town itself though. Sooo pretty! Great book haul, Zombified somehow sounds terrifying :) Enjoy all!

  12. I watched the first few seasons of Lost Girl. I liked it but got a little frustrated so i quit. If it's ending then I might binge watch what I missed and finish it up.

I didn't like Haven after a few eps so I quit that one too and I did read Outlander but I haven't watched the show. Instead I've been watching Rectify (slow going but very good) The Knick and the Strain (I might quit this one if it doesn't move along)

  13. YES- you're watching Outlander!!!! I may be a bit obsessed with this show, lol. I've only read the first book, which I liked but thought it had some slow parts. I intend to carry on reading the series eventually, though I'm a bit daunted by how big the books are and how many there are.

I geeked out when I read your comment about being a Daria fan! I LOVED that show when it was on MTV! Got the DVD set, too. :D

I keep forgetting to ask you- I know you're a big Infernal Devices fan, too. Have you read the short story Clare wrote about Jem & Tessa? It's pretty, um, hot, lol. Here's the link if you haven't: http://cassandraclare.tumblr.com/post/96388203069/after-the-bridge-the-full-story-jem-tessa

  17. I can't recommend any series because I hardly ever get to watch what I want with kids and a husband. I still need to check out the Outlander series, I have read the first two books.

  18. Great haul this week, Braine! I'm glad you took the time to live a little. ;) I've been more out than in the blogosphere this week - I'm in Texas helping take care of my grandma post-surgery. Anywho, I hope you enjoy your reads. I'm working on the CD Reiss post. :)

  19. Great haul Braine, I like the look of the Princess of Thorns and the Orphan Queen. I watched the first season of The Lost Girl but wasn't convinced enough to finish the 2nd season, it definitely did feel like an urban fantasy but there was that B grade quality about it you know? Have a lovely week ahead!
