For Lorelei Warner, being perfect isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be. She did what her straitlaced parents wanted: became a lawyer, married her college boyfriend. But since her husband ran off with another man and her career became a nonstop bore-fest, Lorelei has turned to her best friends and Fool Me Once Investigations to find fulfillment and adventure.
When a routine subpoena-delivery turns up a dead body, Lorelei knows that solving the murder is exactly what she needs to boost her confidence…until private investigator Dallas Osborne walks in and takes over the case. Dallas has always rubbed Lorelei the wrong way. It’s aggravating enough that he’s a pompous ass, but he’s also entirely too good-looking.
If she wants to catch the killer, Lorelei will need to loosen up and defy her parents—not to mention the law. And she’ll need to partner with Dallas, working closer (much closer) to the sexy investigator than she ever expected.
Short, a riot, and very funny. That's SHAME ON HIM in a nutshell. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this Tara Sivec series, Fool Me Once is a humorous tale about a group of friends who started a private investigation company after the three of them were jilted by their husbands for one reason or the other. Each book features a girl and her HEA combined with a case that they're working on for their agency. SHAME ON HIM features little miss perfect Lorelei Warner who went out of her way to please her parents and sacrificing her happiness and who she is along the way. Adding insult to injury, the man she married turned out to be gay but it's so hard to dislike her ex and Lorelei is just a good girl overall, that they became good friends post divorce, even got inviting Lorelei to his wedding.
So this is Lorelei's personal life in a nutshell and it's frustrating and even painful when you look at it closely. But as SHAME ON HIM is a lighthearted tale, naturally Lorelei handled her business with a good dose of humor so the sad moments are balanced with the funnies.
As for Dallas Osborne, he is one yummy dude! He reminds me of Ranger from Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. Rough around the edges, tattooed, and sexy as sin! He's the exact type of dude that Lorelei should bang after her gay ex-husband dumped her. Can't get more Alpha and male than Dallas Osborne and he sure did show Lorelei a good time and reminded her what she's been missing all this time. *wink wink*
SHAME ON HIM was a quick read at only 146 pages. The murder mystery, though not very complicated, was well drawn out. When it was solved, I have to admit I never saw it coming. And of course, there's the classic TSivec twist where things are just ridiculous and hilarious. Now I'm not sure if this is the last Fool Me Once novel as all friends got their HEA already, I sure hope not. Fans of Stephanie Plum will get a kick out of this trilogy so please do yourselves a favor and try the books out!
