Naughty Nooner: White Collared: Mercy by Shelly Bell

Series: White Collared Part 1
Format: eGalley
Release Date: June 3, 2014
Publisher: Avon Impulse
Source: Publisher via Edelweiss
Genre: Suspense Erotica
The first sexy installment in Shelly Bell's four-part serialized erotic thriller about a young law student who must go undercover at a sex club to prove her client is not guilty of murder.

Driven by ambition … Third-year law student Kate Martin outran her tragic past to become an intern for her idol and secret crush, the powerful attorney Nicholas Trenton. She is thrilled when Nick assigns her to represent his best friend and client, millionaire Jaxon Deveroux … the prime suspect in his submissive wife Alyssa's murder.

Seduced by desire … Kate knows they have only a few days to find the real killer, and since signs point to a member of the BDSM community, she volunteers to go undercover as Jaxon's submissive at Benediction—the private sex club where he is a member—to covertly investigate Alyssa's last few months. For years, Kate has kept her dark fantasies a secret … but a chance to explore them with sexy, dominant Jaxon is just too tempting to pass up.

I am loving how these serials are stepping it up! Shelly Bell's White Collard is episodic with sexy vibes and a murder mystery to boot. At 100 pages, MERCY's pace is great with both the plot and characters introduced well. The blurb is spot on in telling us what MERCY is so allow me focus on the heroine... or anti-heroine, Kate Martin, instead.

Kate Martin is the girl I'd keep at arm's length. She's the ambitious overachieving girl, smart, has a Type A personality, and eager to please.

So you might be wondering, "Braine, you're crazy, Kate sounds like a strong heroine!"

Well you know how these kinds of chicks are. They can be condescending, a kiss ass, always looking over their backs, and would do anything and everything to get ahead. At least that's my first impression of Kate, plus from the events that happened here, Kate has a tendency to lay out rules and then exempt herself from it and being a good budding lawyer that she is, she can easily argue her point out of technicalities.

Now these off-putting qualities is exactly why I want to read the serial and torture myself. The draw for me is how is SBell going to spin this where I (might) end up rooting for Kate and begging her to be my BFF by the time White Collared is finished. I'm always up for a good challenge and Kate Martin sounds like a great one.

As for the BDSM, it's more of a tease at this point. Kate volunteered to be a fake submissive but it looks like she's planning to take it further and make it real, at least while the case is ongoing. Also I love how kink is portrayed, totally taboo and dangerous. A submissive getting offed by her Dom? What could be more forbidding and seductive than that?! So I want to know how the pieces fit and I do love romantic suspense so there's no way I'm going to pass up on these.

Binge away and one-click these babies because all the serials are out and each one is only 99 pennies!

  2. You have me convinced, Braine. I love your description of Kate as the anti-heroine because I'm right there with you about wanting to stay away from girls like her. BUT it sounds as though you're going to end up changing your mind - which equals great writing in my book. :) AND I'm finding that I like serials myself. I'll have to check out this one!

  10. I'm glad you liked it! I am not a big fan of serials usually, but this one releases week by week and didn't look super expensive. Let me know what you think of future parts. I think Part 2 maybe 3 was my favorite.

  11. I've only read one serial so far (Curio by Cara McKenna). I don't have much patience but it sounds like the authors are stepping up their game in the same way they did with novellas are so it might be worth taking the plunge.

    1. Have you read Lisa Renee Jones? The beat is good, it's very suspenseful and I love the cliffies at the end. It's well plotted.

  12. Thank you for putting this on my radar. I love that blurb! And 5 stars! I don't read a lot books, but it sounds like the only way to enjoy this serial will be by reading it. I'll make sure to make time for it. I probably read them all in one sitting, that has been my problem with reading, I don't know how to put a book down when I'm loving it, and nothing else get done in my house..lol
