He's a High-Octane Special Ops Pro
When Special Forces Captain Landon Donovan is chosen for an assignment with the Department of Covert Operations, he's stunned to find his new partner is a beautiful woman who looks like she couldn't hurt a fly, never mind take down a terrorist.

She's No Kitten
Ivy Halliwell isn't your average covert op. She's a feline shifter, and more dangerous than she looks. Her feline DNA means she can literally bring out the claws when things get dicey. She's worked with a string of hotheaded military guys who've underestimated her special skills in the past. But when she's partnered with special agent Donovan, a man sexy enough to make any girl purr, things begin to heat up. He doesn't think she's a freak-and he's smokin' hot. Soon they're facing a threat even greater than anyone imagines...and an animal magnetism impossible to ignore.

Hi, Paige, welcome to Talk Supe & congrats on HER PERFECT MATE!

PAIGE TYLER: Thanks so much for having me! I’d love to share a sneak peek into the world of the X-OPS Series.

Can you tell us what should we expect from the series debut?

PAIGE TYLER: It centers around the Department of Covert Operations (DCO for short), a secret organization within the Department of Homeland Security. They team up the very best soldiers, law enforcement officers, and spies together with shifters—humans that possess special animal attributes in their DNA.

In the beginning of the book, the heroine, a feline shifter Ivy Halliwell, is teamed up with yet another military guy—and she isn't thrilled. Her previous partners hated her because she was different, and she thinks this new partner will feel the same. But Captain Landon Donovan is Army Special Forces, so he's used to taking impossible situations in stride. He’s also hot and hunky, and smells absolutely delicious.

HER PERFECT MATE is a paranormal shifter story that blendsromance, action, suspense, and military elements into one exciting package that will keep you up all night reading—I promise!

Sounds like the perfect PNR. Is there a series plot or does it change in every book? Do the MCs change as well?

PAIGE TYLER: While there’s a different hero and heroine in each book that get to have their own steamy, exciting adventure, there’s a continuing story arc that connects all the books in the series. The other characters from previous books are also weaved in and out of each story that follows, so readers will get to catch up with them, which is one of my favorite things about writing a series.

That's cool, I love a series that has an overarching plot. Let's talk about the hero, Landon Donovan, is human and the heroine, Ivy Halliwell, is feline. What makes these characters interesting?

PAIGE TYLER: Ivy’s previous partners were military guys who didn’t like working with her. Not only is she a woman, but she’s a freak of nature, too. As you can imagine, it was hard for her to trust them. She’s wary of trusting Landon, simply because he’s a soldier, too. As for Landon, he’s spent his whole adult life in the army working with guys who are just as badass as he is—and look it. Now, he’s teamed up with a woman who looks like a supermodel, and yet she’s just as deadly as the guys back in Special Forces. A partnership between Ivy and Landon shouldn’t work, but it does. How they click, and what they do with once they have, is what makes their story so interesting.

Sounds like a messy start LOL. What kind of feline shifter is Ivy and does she have special powers (myth background or compare with the archetype)?

PAIGE TYLER: In X-OPS, shifters aren’t monsters, cursed to live in the darkness, or possessed by a demon (which are all very cool ideas by the way). They simply possess shared animal DNA which is present in all of us, only in them, the switch turned on.

In Ivy’s case, her feline DNA shows up in the form of claws and fangs that slide out when needed (and sometimes when they’re not), improved senses (like great night vision)), enhanced muscular strength and endurance, and of course catlike reflexes.Oh, and she can smell a tempting man a quarter mile away.

Very unique, I like that! What is the world of X-Ops like?

PAIGE TYLER: Think of it like Mission Impossible meets Teen Wolf (the TV show with the hunky guys on MTV, not the movie!). Teams made up of shifters and humans are sent out on impossible missions that the rest of the world never even knows about.

Okay, I LOVE that! Which existing PNR suspense series can does X-Ops share a zip code with?

PAIGE TYLER: Imagine Suzanne Brockmann’s Navy SEALs teaming up with Lora Leigh’s shifters with action scenes you’d get in a Clive Cussler thriller.

I haven't read those but I see SEALs & shifters, i'm in! Without giving away spoilers, tell us a bit about the villain.

PAIGE TYLER: He’s ex-East German secret police who’s kidnapping scientists and forcing them to create a terrifying new weapon. He’s ruthless and bloodthirsty. There’s nothing he won’t do to get what he wants.

Nice! Germans can be scary villains. Can you share a fun fact about Ivy & Landon?

PAIGE TYLER: Well, even though Ivy’s a cat shifter, she doesn’t like milk. As for Landon, he looks incredibly hot standing around a room wearing nothing but his dog tags. And that’s a fact!

Lactose intolerant? Hehehe... and a guy comfy in his birthday suit. What's not to like?! How many X-Ops books are you planning to write?

PAIGE TYLER: Right now, there are nine books, but there’s definitely potential for more!

TOP 3 THINGS WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT HER PERFECT MATE.

  1. It’s steamy.
  2. It’s action-packed.
  3. And it’s not like any paranormal/romantic-suspense you’re ever read before.

What an adventure! HER PERFECT MATE, book 1 of Paige Tyler's X-Ops series is perfecto! Mad scientists, a hunky and dorky male, sexy as sin feline heroine, testosterone and pheromones scenting the air, exciting chases and fights, furniture breaking smex, WHAT MORE CAN I ASK FOR?!

Paige Tyler pretty much summed up the series and shared bits and pieces about HER PERFECT MATE so I'll go to the highlights and make this quick. All I can do right now is gush, I loved everything about this novel and it's perfect balance of romance, action and urban fantasy. Captain Landon Donovan is so dreamy! He's every bit of an Alpha male and despite being human, he is not intimidated by Ivy and other shifters like her. He has respect for them but more importantly, he is aware of his own set of skills and limitations which makes him level headed and an excellent warrior. And the best thing about Landon is his sense of humor! Good gawd he made me LOL over his cat jokes directed towards Ivy, good thing our ferocious feline is game and didn't take things personally.
"I was born a shifter," she explained. "And no, before you ask, my mom didn't have sex with a lion." - Ivy
"Cats like to chase lights around a room, right? It's like supposed to be an involuntary reflex or something." - Landon
On to our heroine. Since the TV show, Charmed, I've developed feelings of endearment towards the name, Halliwell, so Ivy Halliwell already has points on my book just for her name alone. Happy to report that she didn't sully the name because not only is Ivy drop-dead gorgeous like the infamous super witch sisters from San Francisco, she's an amazing fighter and very grounded too. Ivy didn't have a chip on her shoulder because of her feline qualities and wasn't snarky which was surprisingly refreshing for an urban fantasy heroine. As for her shifter side, she doesn't completely shift, to me it looks more like a mutation like X-Men where only parts of her transform, claws and eyes, matched with super human abilities from speed, stealth, strength and healing. I love that PTyler didn't go full blown archetype with Ivy and the shifter myth is more scientific than magical lore and legend.

HER PERFECT MATE is a fantastic read, it's familiar but very unique! I love that there's a series plot that branches out, opening more complications and interesting characters to join in. As of the moment the story arc is about mad scientists tinkering with genetic mutations, replicating shifters in a lab with the hopes of creating hybrids like Ivy *shivers*. Any plot that revolves around people playing God gives me the creeps but from an action/adventure standpoint, it makes for a great plot. Can't wait to read more!

  10. Awesome review, Braine! I wanna read this!! I really liked the interview too. I giggled after reading Ms. Tyler saying it was an overarching plot and I thought "ooh, I like that" and then read you said the same thing! (did that make sense?!?) I also like that Ms. Tyler said it's a combo of Mission Impossible and Teen Wolf! *ha*

    3. When I came up with the story and wanted Ivy to be the shifter half of the team in the first book, I knew she had to be a feline. There is a hunky wolf shifter in the series, too! And my upcoming SWAT (Special Alpha Wolf Team) series coming in Jan will be all wolf shifters!
