KEEP CALM AND STEAMPUNK ON
The whole of Victorian London knows there is something not quite right about the Lady Verity Hart. She may be the daughter of an MP and the sister of famed inventor Lord David Hart, but she is a spinster whose own father threatens to send her to the madhouse every fortnight. Because Society is correct-Verity Hart is no lady. If they suspected how quick with a quip she is, let alone the majority of her brother's ingenious machines were her design, the sale of fainting couches would double.
Verity requires one herself when her beloved brother is kidnapped by vampyres in the dead of night. With the aid of an aggravating, rude American bounty hunter with a secret of his own, Verity takes to land, sea, and even air to rescue the only person who could ever love and truly accept her. Or is he?
Part Two of Five Includes:
Chapter Three- Verity Hart Springs Into Action
Chapter Four- An American Werewolf in London
Chapter Five- Murder on the London Express
Chapter Six- Mr. & Mrs. McQueen Terrorize the Countryside
In this four chapter installment, VERITY HART VS THE VAMPYRES 2 is packed with tension and action. So Verity's brother, David has been abducted by Vampyres and was taken to Ireland. Verity is now bent on rescuing him with the help of the super sexy werewolf, Jamie McQueen. Thus the chase commenced as the bad guys are determined to capture Verity. Good thing McQueen is very knowledgeable in dodging the enemy plus Verity's newly minted inventions helped in keeping their predators at bay.
This second installment is simply devine because of... wait for it... JAMIE MCQUEEN! He is so swoony to the nth level!! And everyone, I call DIBS on this lupine! Mind you, I have a big stupid grin on my face as I write this because I am falling hard for the man! See the exclamation points!?!?! First of all, how sexy is this dude's name?! I love the contrast of a gentle sounding first name and a strong last name, it is very telling of what kind of a man he is. McQueen may have a gruff exterior but obviously he has a soft but passionate heart. I can't wait to see how intense that passion is and I'm looking forward to meeting McQueen's wolf, I bet it's magnificent to behold. Plus Verity is very aware of how McQueen smells, in my head he smells like sandalwood and male. Yum.
That said the tension is building between the two and I love where this romance is heading. And even with only 4 chapters, VERITY HART VS THE VAMPYRES 2 is a very satisfying read. Jennifer Harlow's are long-ish and have a lot of substance to it so this is not one of those serials where the readers are left wanting and feeling cheated. This may be lean but it's not without flavor, that's for sure.

As they continue their expedition across Australia, Ariq is determined to stay close to Zenobia and figure out what kind of game she’s playing—even as his admiration for the enigmatic woman starts to override his suspicion.
For Zenobia, revealing her identity to a man who once made his living outside of the law is out of the question—even though Ariq’s dashing looks and blunt manner are distractingly appealing.
But before anyone’s secrets or desires can be exposed, an unexpected attack threatens to destroy them all
The Kraken King And The Abominable Worm
Lies and secrets. That's the theme of THE KRAKEN KING 2 by Meljean Brook. The pending conflict brewing between Ariq and Zenobia lie on a big misunderstanding because of wrong assumptions and hearsay. It's a bit predictable where this is all going to lead relationship-wise. However, I do love how Ariq is very motivated in seducing Zenobia and the man doesn't mince words. He's very frank in telling our heroine that he want her in his bed and how much she'll enjoy it much to Zenobia's delight, curiosity and embarrassment.
The direction of Ariq and Zenobia's relationship may be predictable but the adventure part of this second installment packs a solid punch. Ariq's backstory is revealed and his history is very colorful and ridden with political conflict. His potential match with Zenobia will increase their notoriety to a whole new level and should they become a couple, they will be very influential to say the least.
THE KRAKEN KING 2 is much longer than part 1 but for some reason this wasn't as satisfying for me as the first one. This volume is the build-up part, the slow increase to a mini-climax which we'll hopefully get on the third installment. Ariq knows Zenobia's secret and I hope that he'll confront her so they can relax a bit and ease up their walls, make it an even chase.
Verity and Jaime sound like a lot of fun. They're going on my TBR for sure :) Great review Braine!
ReplyDeleteDibs on Jamie!
DeleteIf only the kraken was not in parts, I can't do serials, I do not have the patience
ReplyDeleteBased on Goodreads, they might release an omnibus. You could wait for that instead.
DeleteHmmmm...I am very excited for the Kraken King but I think I'll wait until the serial's complete before I read it. it will probably be a better reading experience for me :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, based on volumes 1 and 2, I think it'll be a better experience altogether if you read it as a whole instead of in parts.
DeleteI just re-downloaded Verity Hart to my kindle b/c I'm re-motivated to read it. Well done ;)
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Cool, just remember, I call dibs on Jamie!
Deletehmm if I understand it well the first one is in episodes right? I was really intrigued but bell episodes aren't for me, I don't have a good memory. I really need to read the Meljean books, I have 2 by her but I just need more time.
ReplyDeleteBoth are in serial format. I think you'll enjoy MBrooks, her world building is something else
DeleteThe action and tension in this book seems to make it pretty special. I haven't heard of except here I think
ReplyDeleteNow you know where to go to get your fix
DeleteAfter I read your review I added Verity Hart part 1 to my TBR, but now after reading the review of part too I'm going to move it all the way up on that list and read it soon. I want to meet Jamie McQueen!
ReplyDeleteI have first part of Kraken King but I think I'm going to wait until it's all published to read it.
Dibs on Jamie, Marcela, I called dibs first! LOL
DeleteVerity sounds amazing and I'm sorry Kraken 2 didn't satisfy you like 1 did. Really Braine, I'm gonna read some steampunk...honest! ;)

ReplyDeleteIt'll be a quick catch up, that's for sure ;)
DeleteI have to admit, I wouldn't have picked up the book based on the cover, but now I am super curious o.o so will be adding it to my list.
