Sometimes our wildest dreams come true.
In the tumultuous summer of 1808, Spain and England are close to war and four young lovers are close to ecstasy.
To carve out an independent life with the woman she loves, Anna knows she must leave her quiet Spanish convent to become a courtesan. To gain experience, she sets her sights on.
Sebastian, whose powerful, aristocratic confidence suits Anna’s mercenary goals. But his arrogance masks a craving for submission that Anna instinctively satisfies. Sebastian soon begs for her hand in marriage, even if it means sharing her with.
Pia, who trusts Anna completely—with her body and her future—until she learns of Anna’s hasty marriage. Pia questions their commitment to each other as they leave for London to meet.
Farleigh, the seemingly feckless duke who thinks he’s over Sebastian, the potent Spanish soldier he bedded two years ago.
What begins as a series of erotic escapades soon evolves into a deep, unbreakable bond. Two men and two women who yearn to explore are about to make their wildest dreams come true.
Due to its strong sexual content, Bound to be a Groom by Megan Mulry is recommended for readers 18 and up.
I've read Megan Mulry's contemporary romance series, Unruly Royals and loved it! And since I know I'll be in good hands, I decided to try BOUND TO BE A GROOM. And this is scorching hot! It's basically porn if you lived in the 1800's, it'll make every maiden blush with all the debauchery that went on in this stand-alone historical erotic novel set in Spain. Convent girls, rich nobles, lots of free time, consenting adults doing various versions of coupling it will challenge your imagination.
The plot is shallow and the character development close to nil. I think what MMulry tried to do was give us a fantasy since people around this time are either sexually repressed or closet freaks and any sort of deviation from the norm is a bad thing. The theme is tolerance and acceptance regardless of your proclivities. That part I was able to appreciate and BOUND TO BE A GROOM gave me quite an entertaining fantasy. I'm not sure when BDSM was officially coined but in BOUND TO BE A GROOM, the characters are well acquainted with the practice albeit a little outmoded. On a side-note, MMulry didn't go hard core in terms of creating scenes instead she used power play to imply that some of the relationships between the characters are similar to a D/s.
BOUND TO BE A GROOM isn't spectacular, the relationships are too fanciful to be realistic but it can be an entertaining read. MMulry is selling the idea of free love in a time where who you marry is determined by race, wealth, social standing and gender. On a side note, I think I will look for more historical erotica, I do enjoy the sexual tension in traditional historical romances and taking it to another level just makes it better.
Doesn't look like this one is for me, but glad you liked it.
ReplyDeleteUnderstandable. I know this kind of book has a select audience
DeleteI wish the characters & plot has more depth but it does sound Hot! D/s in historical fiction..who knew!
ReplyDeleteYeah, a little "rough" but it has a modern flavor to it. Fantasy well sold
DeleteI've heard good things about Mulrys books. I remember considering this for review. You know I love super steamy stories (yay, alliteration!) but I also love a good story with character development. I am glad you enjoyed Bound to Be.
ReplyDeleteYou'll find heat here for sure but not so much character development. Her contemporary romance books are wonderful though, love them all!
DeleteI'm not into historical romance but this does sound tempting
ReplyDeleteDon't blame ya
DeleteUh... no this is not for me. I can skip historical porn :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha! I know you don't like erotica, sorry!
DeleteI don't read erotica usually, but when I do I do enjoy the historical stuff best. I guess I find it a bit more fascinating, lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, I guess I just found a new genre to indulge in
DeleteI did not know Mulry had written this one
ReplyDeleteHave you read her Unruly Royals?
DeleteWell on the list it goes! I love a bit of debauchery in the morning. Thanks Braine! I've not read her but yeah. So will be. Heh
ReplyDeleteI hope you got a copy, I know you love to be debauched LOL
DeleteFree love in the historical times. LOL! I've read a few of these and it reminds me that people haven't changed much b/c I'm sure stuff was going on back then too. I do tend to like the story to be stronger than what you describe, but the erotic romp part sounds fun.
ReplyDeleteTrue but it was done in the shadows and the hypocrisy was thicker if not as thick as today. But as these are convent girls you can only imagine the liberties they took when they found their freedom
DeleteAm I right to assume that this is a F/F/M ménage? I don't thinkive ever read a historical like this! I would be interested to read the dynamics and how they go about it at this day and age but maybe I will pass on this book because of the shallow plot and poor character development. The idea is interesting though! Great review, Braine :)
ReplyDeleteMore like M/M, F/F, M/F/F, M/M/F/F
DeleteAt least it was entertaining, right?!? ;) Two historical erotica books I rather enjoyed are Seven Years to Sin by Sylvia Day and Any Wicked Thing by Margaret Rowe.
ReplyDeleteI DNF'd Seven Years :(
DeleteThis does sound very entertaining, even though it is lacking in character development. Not sure it is one for me, but I'm glad you enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteI understand, books like this has a specific audience.
Deletea lil smut aint a bad thing once in a while..lols. on the wishlist it shall go.
ReplyDeleteSmut away my friend!
DeleteI'm glad you managed to enjoy this one and that it was HOT ;) but i'm not a fan of books without any real character development, i feel cheated :/
ReplyDeleteBut at least you enjoyed the book!
