Quickie Erotica by Tiffany Reisz, Lisa Renee Jones & Kresley Cole

Due to its strong sexual content and language, the following novellas are recommended for readers 18 and up.

MISBEHAVING by Tiffany Reisz
Cosmo Red Hot Reads by Harlequin | Feb. 11, 2014 | Erotica

Because boobs.
I'd devour anything by Tiffany Reisz because I know that I'll get some jolly to go with her amazing sexy stories. MISBEHAVING's plot is pretty simple starting with the sexy, sultry and exotic heroine, Beatriz, and her enviable job. She reviews sex toys and books here and there and gets paid to, well... get orgasms. The hero, Ben, is Beatriz's college almost-sweetheart but that romance got foiled last minute. The two rendezvoused by chance on their friend's wedding and it just so happens that Beatriz is looking for a partner to review a sex manual. And you can figure out the rest.

MISBEHAVING is a short and super sexy read and quite humorous because like TReisz, Beatriz has a quick wit and a smart mouth. Hers and Ben's quips during coitus is amusing plus the side story involving their wacky friends are very entertaining. What I love most about this short is TReisz didn't romanticize Bea and Ben's "fling", it was just good ole' fashioned flucking with lots of improvisation. Feelings were naturally developed as the MC's have a history together but it didn't feel rushed or anything like that. TReisz carefully laid out the groundwork for an HEA from the beginning hence the backstory. The best part is, MISBEHAVING is the kind of erotica that will appeal to couples because Bea and Ben's active review on the sex manual is very... informative. These two will inspire you to get sexy with your partner, that I guarantee.

HIS SECRETS by Lisa Renee Jones
Inside Out 3.1 | Gallery Books | Feb. 24, 2013 | Erotica

We all have different people cross our paths, Chris, but they don't define us. We do. How I deal with who are are isn't about you. It's about me.
HIS SECRETS, rather Christ Merit's secrets, is such a treat! After Revealing Us I thought we won't be hearing much from Sara and Chris so I was beyond delighted that we'll read more of them and that the novella series is told in Chris' POV! The events in HIS SECRETS happens shortly after Revealing Us but the events doesn't directly involve Sara and Chris but it has quite an interesting tangent in their relationship. The short of it is Chris is called to "rescue" Amber from Isabelle's kinky clutches because the former is broken over Tristan (these peeps we met in previous novels). The tangent is Amber 's mental and emotional state mirrors Chris during one of the most difficult time in his life.

I love HIS SECRETS because it felt very intimate and not in a sexual way. Chris is this strong, Alpha male character and I think this is the first time I've seen him this vulnerable which is always a welcome layer to any story. Chris really bared his soul in this one and it took a lot of courage from him to own it. Sara, as always, didn't disappoint. Once again she gave Chris much compassion and showed how unconditional her love is for the man. Fans of the series will fall in love with Chris Merit all over again after reading this. I can't wait to read more secrets!

The Professional: Part 2 by Kresley Cole
The Game Maker 1.2 | Pocket Star | January 6, 2014
"This need I have for you... it should unsettle you."
I swallowed. It did. Still I asked, "Why?"
He pressed his palm against mine, studying our hands for nerve-racking moments. "Because it unsettles even me."
As this is a serial, THE PROFESSIONAL: PART 2 is in close conjunction with Part 1. Natalie and Sevastyan have yet to figure out what the heck their relationship is. Even if her body's roaring for Sevastyan, Natalie is still on the fence because of the former's emotional unavailability.

I was hoping that I would form a connection to Natalie at least but that still didn't materialize in THE PROFESSIONAL: PART 2. Clearly these two have issues, especially Sevastyan, and clearly they're trying to find a solution to their lack of emotional intimacy through extreme "petting". I find it outrageous that Natalie is still holding tight to her virginity mid-point because it's nothing but a technicality. It's value has greatly diminished in Part 1 and it's no longer a valid bargaining chip as of the moment. The angst is unbelievable which intensified the tension but to me it felt so over the top I was rolling my eyes on a lot of their bondage scenes. There was a great tragedy that happened towards the end of THE PROFESSIONAL: PART 2 causing Natalie to finally cash in her V-card followed by a cliffhanger which forced Natalie and Sevastyan to reevaluate their relationship.

The Professional: Part 3 by Kresley Cole
The Game Maker 1.3 | Pocket Star | January 20, 2014
"A game maker at rest is a dangerous man." Maksin said in a tone of agreement. "As the old bastard always told us, 'Life grows long without schemes.'"
Following the events of Part 2THE PROFESSIONAL: PART 3 opens with much debauchery. Here they finally work out the emotional kinks of their relationship with much Drama, pomp and circumstance. And as usual, the angst was maddening to the point of frustrating.

And because this is the final installment, this will be part summation of THE PROFESSIONAL. We all can agree that Kresley Cole knows how to turn up the heat in the triple digits ans she was relentless in dishing out one sexy scene after the next which was consistent in all three installments. The plot of THE PROFESSIONAL is really good and unique and I love the combination of suspense and erotica, it sure made things interesting. I mean it's the the Russian mafiya people?!

The reason why THE PROFESSIONAL didn't win me over is the lack of emotional intimacy between Natalie and Sevastyan. They got too busy outdoing each other sexually that it barely left enough space for them (and me) to bond with them emotionally in an organic/believable way. In other words, these two were hoping to fluck their problems away literally and though I appreciate all the smutty moments, I was hoping that they'd address their emotional issues on a more normal setting.

They eventually did it, post coitus, but it felt rushed which made the resolution weak for me. Sevastyan finally told Natalie his sordid backstory and after a few comforting words from her, it ended happily ever after. Now I'm not sure if the next book in the series would still be about these two because in THE PROFESSIONAL: PART 3, we meet one of Sevastyan's equally dysfunctional brother, Maksim, and I have a feeling that his story might be next with Natalie's BFF as his future partner(?). If that's the case then I would be mildly disappointed because I'm not satisfied with how things ended between Natalie and Sevastyan, I feel like things weren't tied tight enough for me to buy their supposed HEA.

  1. I was very excited to read The Professional until I heard from readers that Part 3 went the BDSM route and I'm so sick of damn BDSM. I will still read this but I think I'll wait for the compiled copy instead.

    1. The dynamic is different, usually the "power" lies in the sub in most BDSM but with this one, the Dom has all the.power if that makes sense.

  5. Great reviews Braine, Misbehaving sure does sound like a sexy, explicit read! I've heard great things about The Professional, but too bad the emotional attachment isn't there. Great if you want some sexy time though, I guess. Lovely reviews!

  7. oh it's always nice to have some little reviews like that. It's so rare when I give a high rate for novellas because it's often too fast but the first one sound awesome. For the second one I'm not sure, I don't think I saw a lot of great reviews about the series.

  12. Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! First of all, can I sign up for that job?!? Oh, alright...I'll just read it with my honey. :) I'm thrilled you loved Misbehaving. And I'm glad you enjoyed His Secrets too. I just got that from NetGalley today. (yeah, just what I needed to do...request more books :) I'm sorry you didn't really connect with Natalie. It's disappointing both when you can't connect with a character AND when there's no emotional intimacy between the lead couple. :(
