Bought, Borrowed & Bagged #88 + House Of Cards S2

BB&B (Bought, Borrowed and Bagged) is a weekly meme, inspired my The Story Siren and Pop Culture Junkie, where we share with you the books that we have bought, borrowed or bagged (won or gifted) plus a recap of the previous week's reviews, upcoming reviews, on going events and book movie or television news.

BB&B is an homage Barron's Books & Baubles from Karen Marie Moning's smash hit series, Fever.

Big & Small

HOUSE OF CARDS season 2 premiered yesterday on Netflix and in case you're unfamiliar, this critically acclaimed political drama is about former Congressman and now US-VP, Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey), who is a master political puppeteer. We watch him break and bend the rules, abuse his power and execute countless immoral machinations to serve his own greedy purpose and feed his ambition. He's a villain you'd love to hate but can't, if that makes sense.

HOUSE OF CARDS is very Machiavellian and I shiver at the thought that this is an (almost) accurate dramatization of what happens in D.C. Aside from the political game of chess, the side stories and other entanglements are quite entertaining to watch. It's this big intricate web that Frank started and it's slowly closing in on him. Frank's hands, as well as his cohorts, are beyond dirty, and it's quite fascinating how he keeps on dodging culpability effectively. My expectations are constantly challenged because Frank seems to keep getting away with barely any consequences.

The first episode was a big WTF just happened?! I spent most of the day watching more because it's like crack, one isn't enough. This season's plot mirrors more or less what happened in the US government in the past 10 months or so ranging from shutdowns, foreign policy debacles and all sorts of disgusting politicking, it's addictive! I'm halfway through and it took a huge amount of will power for me to stay away. I'm trying to pace myself but I doubt the weekend will end without me watching all 13 episodes.

    1. I still have to catch up to KMaine's novels and I did see your Loving Cara review, I think I will postpone reading it plus I'm not the biggest cowboy trope reader.

  9. I grabbed The Archived, too. I've wanted to read it for a while, and I couldn't say no to that price.

I loved the comment you left on our V-Day post; I am also 2 decades too old for any of the Raven Boys, so I'm thinking we're about the same age, yet another thing we have in common. I'm starting to believe that in a parallel universe, we'd be sisters or something, lol!

  16. And once again, I'm envious of your haul, Braine! ;) I've been meaning to pick up Loving Cara - but then I ask myself WHY? I have sooooo many books on my ereader as it is! LOL But I really like Proby's writing, so I'm sure I'll end up one-clicking it soon despite not having time. :)

You know I don't watch tv, Braine but I just may have to check out House of Cards. I love Kevin Spacey and this sounds too good to pass up. Plus, since it's on Netflix, it's not taking up space on my hubby's DVR. ;)

Hope you had a great weekend, girlie!!

Sorry it's taken me so long to visit you this week, I'm exhausted - classes started again this week after two months off. It's really difficult to be back in a normal rhythm.
