The CONSEQUENCES SERIES READING COMPANIONS

Books #4 of the CONSEQUENCES Series - BEHIND HIS EYES – CONSEQUENCES is a reading companion, by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig, recommended to be read aftercompleting all of the CONSEQUENCES SERIES: Consequences, Truth, and Convicted. It is not a standalone book and should not be read as such.

This companion was written to explore the thoughts and motivations of Anthony Rawlings, the man behind the consequences. It was not intended as a total rewrite of Consequences, but meant to enhance the reader’s understanding.

BHE-Consequences contains significant scenes from the novel Consequences, as experienced from Anthony’s point of view. It also contains never before read, behind the scenes information, as well as, a glossary of the characters and a timeline devoted to the events within Consequences.

BEHIND HIS EYES CONSEQUENCES is a dark journey into the mind of the man who believes that he controls everything and controls nothing. Because there is more to learn about a man who:

Once upon a time, signed a napkin that he knew was a contract. As an esteemed businessman, he forgot one very important rule—he forgot to read the fine print. It wasn’t an acquisition to own another person as he’d previously assumed. It was an agreement to acquire a soul.
—Aleatha Romig CONVICTED

It was a long and painful acquisition—especially from Behind His Eyes!

Reading BEHIND HIS EYES is like going to therapy! I cursed Anthony Rawlings in Consequences and Truth for his nth level manipulative ways. I was seething with anger over his actions I got so protective of Claire, which in hindsight is really ridiculous considering this is a fictional novel and they're not real. Still, the circumstances involving their relationship is powerful it's hard for anybody not to get emotionally involved with the story. Although BEHIND HIS EYES didn't change that, it helped me see things differently. If not for Tony's accomplice who continuously whispered on his shoulder all throughout, the game would've been over long before it got messy and Claire would've been spared so much PAIN! Not I'm hating again but it's for a totally different reason. This rehash is slowly becoming bad for my health!

As BEHIND HIS EYES is a companion novel, it is NOT meant to be read as a stand-alone nor should you skip the first three books written in Claire's POV then jump on this one. This is comparatively shorter than Consequences but just as meaty because we're seeing things in Tony's perspective. If you are new to the series, you may read Consequences then BEHIND HIS EYES and maybe that will help you understand Tony's motivation. I for one referenced back to Consequences for some chapters just to refresh my memory and sort of compare the two POVs. It's tedious but fun.

My main motivation in reading BEHIND HIS EYES is to make sense of what was going on in Tony's head during Claire's accident and incarceration. Sure I got some remorse from Tony but I guess he really wasn't seeing the light at this point. He was so caught up with his revenge plan Claire truly was nothing but a means to an end. It's quite obvious that Claire was slowly becoming a necessity and a permanent fixture in his life but I guess Tony's too proud and dare I say, "emotionally immature", at this point to accept that he's fallen in love with Claire. So he pushed her away to reclaim his objectivity and proceed with his vindication plan. I was expecting more, I was hoping that it'll hit him after the accident but from how it appeared, he was only truly concerned that he went too far and how that will damage his reputation. Frustrating!

So I really don't know why I keep on doing this to myself...smh... I don't know why I like getting myself worked up over these novels?! This is the reason why I rarely reread novels especially powerful ones like this because I don't like the tight feeling it gives my heart. On the other hand, it was well worth revisiting the beginning of this epic love story. I always wondered what Tony might be thinking during around this time and if it was just a facade at some point to please his accomplice or if it's all him. I guess it's both which made me sad a little bit. My only consolation is Convicted and the thought that everyone got what they deserved in the end.

    1. Recommend it to her, she'll love this then if she's into dark psychological romances.

  2. I'm not sure I would be a fan of the dark romances, though I haven't read any. I just can't see the romantic appeal of a kidnapper/sex slave dealer/etc. But like I said, I haven't tried. I think I would likely feel like you, happy ppl got what they deserved in the end.

    1. I like to be worked up once in a while LOL. I get bored easily if I read the same thing with slight variations here and there. This sub genre is my go to when I'm a bit tired of the happy HEA of contemporary romance.

  3. This series sounds really good, but I'm not a big fan of companion books, really. It's like someone thinks they need to explain the books to me. Maybe I've just not read any good ones so far.

Thanks for sharing, Braine. Have a great weekend, and happy reading.
