He makes the rules...
Mafiya enforcer Aleksandr "The Siberian" Sevastyan’s loyalty to his boss is unwavering, until he meets the boss’s long-lost daughter, a curvy, tantalizing redhead who haunts his mind and heats his blood like no other. Ordered to protect her, Sevastyan will do anything to possess her as well—on his own wicked terms.

Rules are made to be broken...
PhD student Natalie Porter had barely recovered from her first sight of the breathtakingly gorgeous Sevastyan before the professional hit man whisks her away to Russia, thrusting her into a world of extreme wealth and wanton pleasures. With every day she spends under his protection, she falls deeper under his masterful spell.

Are you ready to play?
Yet all is not as it seems. To remove Natalie from an enemy’s reach, Sevastyan spirits her into hiding. From an opulent palace in Russia to the decadent playgrounds of the mega-wealthy in Paris, the two lovers will discover that even their darkest—and most forbidden—fantasies can come true.

This is a great holiday surprise from Kresley Cole to her fans. I haven't read all of her work but I'm not surprised that she's dipping her pen in the erotica inkwell. From all the reviews and excerpts I've read for her dark PNR series, Immortals After Dark, I know she won't disappoint us with this new venture of hers.

THE PROFESSIONAL 1 is a serial cut in three parts... and I am not a fan of serials because I dislike cliffhangers and unresolved conflicts and more importantly, I hate waiting! Having said that this serial felt "full" at 17 chapters so it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. THE PROFESSIONAL 1 was exciting, downright sexy, mysterious, addictive, undeniably racy and certainly fluckable. Plus as it's also a romantic suspense, the feeling of danger and pursuit was most definitely an aphrodisiac.

The story is, Natalie Porter is in search of her birth parents and her research led her to Russia. Turns out she's the daughter of a billionaire over there who's involved in some Mafiya business and now her father's enemy have her as their next target. But before that tragedy happens, Natalie's biological father hired Alexsandr Sevastyan to bring her to Russia to keep her safe and get Natalie acquainted with her blood family. Aside from the technicalities of consensual kidnapping and the anxiety of meeting your real father under duress, there was also a lot of bumping and grinding between these two. To say that THE PROFESSIONAL 1 is exciting is the biggest understatement IMO.

The heat level is through the roof and the coitus explosive, that I can guarantee. The tension between Natalie and Sevastyan is all too consuming and very primal, any reader will feel the burn and urgency of their attraction. I know I'm probably over thinking but the challenge for me here is I can't relate to Natalie in some ways. I can't put myself in her shoes, leaving everything behind, running away with a strange man, going to a strange country without telling anybody while bumping uglies here and there with a total stranger. The blind trust and utter faith went over my head which in some ways prevented me from being "in" on the story.

Regardless, I will never turn my back on a well written erotica even if I have issues with the heroine. I find it stimulating to gush and gripe over the characters and their actions with equal measure I can't help but get passionate over the story. THE PROFESSIONAL 1 isn't your typical serial, it's a lot of "book" for something so short plus you can be comforted that you're in good hands with KCole. #mustread

  1. I've been seeing this everywhere and I really want to read it but I'm like you with not being a fan of cliffhangers although I really enjoyed the last serial I read, even if I'm still waiting for the final installment.

  2. Ahhh I've been wondering how this one was. I think I'll wait until all three parts are out though.

    1. It's actually more novella than a serial although they release it as such. But yeah, it's best for everything to be compiled so you won't be left hanging.

  3. LMBO @ bumping uglies here and there. Only if I were young again would I ever consider doing something like that, but I get what you're saying. That kind of trust in someone you don't even know is kinda crazy.

I really need to read this, been seeing so many people loving it. Her IAD series is good too, so I was wondering what her writing erotica would be like.

    1. So maybe you should wait for all three parts to be released that way you can read it through without humps.

    1. This would be a good filler read in between full length novels.

  10. I enjoyed it even though I didn't find the plot earth chattering nor did I get fully connected with the characters. But I totally agree! Kresley Cole is a master at writing erotic scenes for women, she sure knows how to heat up a room, holly sh*t! IT WAS HOT!
    Great job!

    1. Oh thank god I'm not the only one! The hotness factor more than made up for that "lost" connection.

  11. Great review, Braine. And I agree with the points you made, I, too have a little trouble with serials, but The Professional works for me. The 2nd book is better, there is more action, both in and out of the bedroom...

Kresley Cole is one of my autobuy authors for her adult novels. She knows how to tell a story and make me all hot and bothered ;)

  12. Reading this now. I am also having a hard time connecting with Natalie. There is just something missing and I can't put my finger on it. I love Kresley Cole's books, and the dialogue both in Natalie's head and coming out of her mouth makes me laugh.

    1. I'm not sure if it's because of the length or if the pace is too fast that Natalie's characterization has been compromised.

    1. I'd rather wait for all the volumes to be released and binge on it. I made an exception for this one coz it's her debut erotic novel, I can't miss that!

    1. I don't think I could ever catch up with IAd for as long as I am blogging. The series is too long now, I'll just stick to this and her Arcana Chronicles.

  15. I really like this author but didn't know what to think about this one because a PNR series is ok for me but erotica I wasn't really sure...

  17. Holy hotness, Braine! I don't usually do serials because I hate waiting, too. Yeah, patience is so not my virtue. ;) But after reading your review (and Lexxie's) I'm definitely going to pick up this series. I totally get what you're saying about Natalie and what you're saying has a lot of merit. That the rest of the story, the writing, the 'bumping uglies' kept you engaged here says a lot, as well. Fantastic review, gal!!

  18. I've got it on the tbr pile. I can't wait for them to come out in May/June as the set. It's gonna kill me waiting. lol

  19. Hi Braine,
I've spotted this one, read the synopsis and I was tempted. But because my reading list is long enough, I've decided to behave! Lol!
Serves me right to be reasonable... Now, I badly want to meet Sevastyan...
