Series: Seattle Lumberjacks 3
Format: Digital
Release Date: March 25, 2013
Publisher: Boroughs Publishing Group
Source: Author's Angels
Genre: Contemporary Romance
It's showtime.

After twelve years in the league, all Zach Murphy wants is a Super Bowl ring. He’s been about hard hits not smooth manners, about breaking quarterbacks not making small talk at cocktail parties. But now he’s shattered something else. After dumping a tray of drinks on the team owner’s snooty daughter and accidentally feeling up the Governor’s wife, his tenure with his team looks perilously short. And things are getting worse.

Life is looking up for Kelsie Carrington-Richmond. A onetime beauty pageant star and mean girl, she only recently stopped living out of her car. But those times have passed. Her finishing school for real men has a real shot, and the Seattle Lumberjacks have hired her to polish their roughest player.

Except…it’s Zach. Long ago she broke his heart. He’s just the beast she remembers—gruff, protective—but she’s nothing like the beauty from his past. Yet, getting knocked down happens, and getting back up makes a contender. And they both have the hearts of champions.
I've read Forward Passes last year and though Tyler Harris is hot, I didn't fall in love with the Seattle Lumberjacks QB. I'm sorry but inasmuch as I like my men hot, domineering and every inch Alpha, I want them smart too! Unfortunately Tyler isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Thank God Zach more than made up for it and in all fairness to Tyler, he might not be book smart, but the dude's got some serious street smarts.

On to DOWN BY CONTACT's hero, the Jack's linebacker, the very uncouth, Zach Murphy. Like Tyler, Zach, has some serious flaws and in his case, he's in need of polishing in the manners department. Because of his lack of tact and etiquette, he seriously pissed off his boss' daughter, Veronica Simms, and she's out to get him off the team. Zach's salvation is in the hands of his first love, pageant queen and current CEO of Finishing School for Real Men, Kelsie Ann Richmond. But Kelsie broke his heart a long time ago and now that Karma's finally found its way to her doorstep, she can't help but look back and feel guilty of how she treated Zach back in high school. As far as Kelsie's concerned, her luck changed the moment she decided to be Zach's numero uno tormentor, humiliating him to the point of bullying all in exchange for being part of the cool clique. Now Kelsie's wants to make amends but Zach won't make it easy on her.
You two circle each other like sparring partners, yet the chemistry's so intense it's like being zapped by static electricity. - Lavender Harris {Forward Passes}
I LOVED DOWN BY CONTACT! Zach and Kelsie's story was well drawn out, well written and very cute and a solid sports contemporary novel. I love how despite both characters having troubled pasts, JDavenport didn't dwell in it too much so the story remained light and tight with sexual tension. Zach's lack of manners are funny and cringe-worthy (see excerpt below) and his classes with Kelsie provided the comedic relief. I love his very rugged character, Zach's downright honest and very unapologetic. His gruffness is more of a mask, a defense mechanism for his part due to growing up poor, his dad in prison and basically not fitting in anywhere all his life. His character development is poignant and heartwarming. Truly Zach is just in need of good loving and Kelsie sure did softened him and buffed him up real good.

Kelsie for her part was an easy character to like. She's going through tough times post divorce and practically homeless. I admire her courage in the face of adversities, how she "faked it til she made it" putting on a brave face despite all the cracks and insecurities she's bottling inside. My heart broke for her on those scenes where she's literally living in her car because she doesn't have any money to get herself a room, how she's sneak in Zach's house to sleep or to use the bathroom, etc. Kelsie's story is a good illustration of cosmic karma BUT I loved how she embraced it and made amends.
I've always loved you, worshipped you, carried an Olympic-sized torch for you. - Zach
My favorite part is the conflict-resolution. It might be predictable to an extent but the emotions during the confrontations were intense. My heart was beating to the tune of Kelsie's fury and that food fight was EPIC! I can't stop cheering and laughing at the same time, imagining a bunch of burly men throwing around caviar and other overpriced foods at each other. LOL

DOWN BY CONTACT is a great romantic story. Even if you're not into sports-themed books, you'll love JDavenport's adorable Lumberjacks with their macho personalities and ego-centric attitudes. Inasmuch as they exude the quintessential Alpha vibe, they turn into warm, fuzzy teddies around their mates. They're every sports fan's fantasy as JDavenport dishes out the smex and romance in large doses.

DOWN BY CONTACT – A SEATTLE LUMBERJACKS ROMANCE by Jami Davenport

Kelsie Carrington glided across the room straight toward him. His Cactus Prairie High School crush here? In Seattle? What the fuck? Wasn’t halfway across the country far enough to escape her and those painful memories? He blinked several times, but there wasn’t a damn thing wrong with his vision. His one-date disaster balanced on a pair of heels so high the altitude should require an oxygen mask. Her blond hair shone as brightly as the gold in a coveted Super Bowl ring. Each graceful step of those long legs carried her closer to him.

He held his breath and prayed she didn’t recognize him. Just like old times, Kelsie looked right through him, as if he didn’t exist. Her patent beauty-queen smile was plastered across her perfectly made-up face. Damn, seeing her transported him back to being an awkward teenage boy who only fit in on the football field. Her fake smile reminded him how stupid he’d been to fall for her particular brand of poison. Her perfect face dredged up a shitload of painful emotions.

Oh, yeah, painful all right. Zach Murphy had fallen in love once and been carried out of the game on a stretcher. He’d stick with football. Football gave him life, while women sucked the life out of him. Football made sense to him. Women didn’t.

Especially this woman.

He glanced to either side to see if any of his teammates noticed the fucking bleeding heart dangling on his sleeve. They were too busy staring at Kelsie—she’d always had that effect on men. Well, except for the king of asshole quarterbacks, Tyler Harris. Zach gave Harris a few grudging points for tossing out his womanizer ways and only having eyes for his sassy girlfriend.

Yet something on Zach’s face must have clued Harris in. Like a hungry hyena catching the scent of wounded prey, Harris’s sharp gaze moved from Zach to Kelsie and back again. The quarterback possessed this uncanny ability to dissect an enemy’s weakness—and despite being teammates, they were enemies. One corner of the fuckhead’s mouth turned up in a knowing smirk. He nodded briefly at Zach and returned to his conversation with his hot little girlfriend, even though Zach knew damn well the jerk kept one eye on him.

Ignoring Harris, Zach scratched his chin and studied Kelsie. What the hell was the cause of his most humiliating moment in a lifetime of humiliating moments doing here a thousand miles from Texas, invading his territory?

He blinked a few times and looked again. Really looked beyond the beauty-queen face and body. Something was very wrong with this picture. A loaded tray of drinks teetered precariously on the palm of Kelsie’s raised hand as she moved in and out of the crowd. Rich girl Kel had never worked a real job in her life. Yet, he doubted she was serving drinks just for the unique opportunity to slum with the common folk.

Damn, maybe his life wasn’t the only thing that’d changed.

Kelsie scanned the room then did a double take. Their eyes met and crashed with the intensity of a wrong-way collision on I-5. The fake smile faltered. The gliding stopped. She looked around the room as if planning an escape route. Then she straightened her shoulders and turned on the charm, gracing him with her halogen smile—perfect white teeth and hot red lips. Really hot. As if she were happy to see him.

Bullshit.

Zach scowled his best don’t-fuck-with-me scowl.

Kelsie faltered. Her stride went from graceful to jerky. The smile slipped off her face, replaced by what appeared to be panic. She pivoted on her impossibly high heels and fired up the after-burners.

Oh, no, she wasn’t getting away this easily. Zach jumped to his feet and gave chase, single-mindedly focused on confronting her, something he’d been dying to do since his senior year of high school. Yeah, stupid idea, but he’d never been one for thinking before reacting, a trait which worked well in football, not so well in real life.

She glanced over her shoulder, her blue eyes filled with what looked like fear, as if she expected him to do physical damage to her or some stupid-assed thing like that.

Zach cornered her near the head table. Kelsie changed directions and charged past him. He spun around to follow, refusing to let her off that easily. He clipped her full tray drinks with his elbow. She lurched with the tray, but it was too late. Helpless, Zach watched the disaster happen in slow motion.

The tray teetered back and forth, as Kelsie desperately fought to gain control. The tray won. Glasses of wine sprayed red, white, and pink across the tablecloth, looking like a tie-dye session gone mad. Goblets shattered. Women screamed as wine drenched expensive evening gowns. The team owner leapt to his feet, his sputtering laced with profanity as red wine coated his custom-tux and white shirt. His spoiled daughter, Veronica, didn’t hold anything back either, loudly insulting the size of Zach’s brain and his dick. Closest to the debacle, the governor’s wife leapt to her feet, her low-cut sequined evening gown hung on her like a limp rag. Red wine and mimosas dribbled down her neck and chest and disappeared in her cleavage. Zach grabbed a napkin and desperately blotted at the wine. In his panic, he swiped the napkin across the plump mounds of her breasts. She screamed as if he’d purposely groped her. HughJack, the team’s head coach, grabbed him and pulled him away.

“I’m sorry. Oh, fucking hell. I’m so sorry.” Zach wanted to crawl under the nearest boulder.

“What did you think you were doing?” Coach spoke in that deadly calm, quiet voice that struck fear in the meanest of linemen. Zach preferred HughJack’s ranting and notorious clipboard throwing to that voice.

“I—I don’t know. I’m sorry.”

Veronica, still sputtering and looking for blood, turned on Kelsie. “You! How could you be so stupid?”

“I—I—” Kelsie shoved her fist in her mouth, obviously horrified at the carnage she’d helped cause. She lifted her gaze to Zach’s. Anger blazed in her stormy blue eyes.

Wait one fucking minute. She blamed him? He hadn’t done one damn thing other than be where he was supposed to be—a charity benefit for a charity whose name he couldn’t even remember. She was the one who didn’t belong here.

Jerking her gaze away from his, Kelsie dropped to the floor and started wiping up the mess with any napkin she could confiscate from the nearby tables. Several other staff joined in the fray, wiping tables, cleaning up the mess, and comforting wet, angry guests.

Zach debated on whether or not to fade into the background or make her night that much worse. Once again, she’d made him look like a backwards hick, her special talent.

A fat, sweating chef with chocolate stains on his white apron waddled out of the kitchen and spoke in a harsh whisper to Kelsie. “You idiot. Did you do this?”

Kelsie didn’t look up, just worked frantically to clean up the mess. The chef bent down and pointed a pudgy finger in her direction. “You’re fired. Get the hell out of here. I’ll be contacting you for reimbursement for the damages.” He kept his voice low, but Zach heard him.

Zach stepped forward, a knight not exactly comfortable in his dinner-jacket armor. “Apologize to the lady. It was an accident, and your behavior is abusive.”

The chef gritted his teeth and spoke loud enough for only Zach to hear. “Who the hell are you? Some dumb jock? You probably beat up your girlfriend on a regular basis. And you accuse me of abuse?”

Zach exploded and charged. Just before he made contact, two defensive linemen, big suckers, yanked him backward and pinned his arms behind his back. Zach lunged at the fat chef again, dragging the linemen with him. More teammates jumped into the fray and held him back. Several others restrained the chef, who hurled accusations at Zach and Kelsie.

“Stop it, you dumb shit.” Harris smacked Zach on the arm none too gently. Zach grunted and squinted into the harsh light glaring in his eyes. Someone had a camera trained on him.

Harris stepped in front of Zach, blocked the cameraman, and faced the furious cook. “Let’s calm down and be civilized. It was an accident.” He spoke in an aside to his teammates. “Let them go.” The men did as Harris ordered. The cook made a move toward Zach but Harris countered it, placing his body between the two dueling men. He put his hand on Zach’s chest and pushed. Zach staggered back a step, reining in his temper.

He’d done it again. Screwed up in a social situation and dragged the whole team down with him. His new team. The ones who were counting on him to be a leader on and off the field. He’d led them, all right, almost into a brawl.

Seattle Lumberjacks
is here today to share a little scene with the
Jacks' as they watch and share their two cents about the latest NFL draft picks.
Enjoy!

The heroes in my Seattle Lumberjacks Football Series are players on a fictional NFL football team set in Seattle. On draft day, they met at a local sports bar to watch the first round and debate what player their team would pick.

Who:

Tyler Harris (quarterback for the Seattle Lumberjacks football team) Derek Ramsey (wide receiver)
Zach Murphy (linebacker)
Bruiser Mackey (running back)

Where:
Sports bar in Seattle

What:
Watching the first round of the NFL draft

Tyler Harris slid into the u-shaped booth in the sports bar next to his cousin, Derek. He'd jumped at the chance to spend some quality time with his teammates when they’d invited him earlier. Besides, his girlfriend, Lavender, was hanging out with her BFFs at the house. When they came bearing bride's magazines, he ran like hell.

Just last week Lavender had sent him to pick up some dry cleaning and the address she gave him ended up being a high-end jewelry store. Mistake? Hardly.

Tyler didn't do marriage. Hell, before he met Lavender, he didn't do commitment so he figured she was getting a pretty big piece of him as it was. A piece of worthless paper wasn’t needed to validate their love for each other, and he did love her--heart and soul. He just had a tiny phobia when came to saying “I do.”

Tyler shook his head and cleared it of such life-altering thoughts and focused on stuff he understood. He reached for the pitcher of beer and filled an empty glass then offered a toast to his buddies. "To a new season and another ring."

"Here, here." Everyone raised their glasses and clinked them together in agreement.

"So who will the Jacks pick first?" Derek mused as he gazed at one of the many flat screens hanging on the walls, waiting for the draft-day festivities to begin.
Tyler jumped in, never known for being the quiet one. "I say they go with Desmond Trufant because he's a local guy from a great football family, and we could use a good, young corner."

Zach snorted, "Are you nuts, Harris, they'll try to get Geno Smith if he goes low enough."

"Geno Smith is a QB, you jerk. We don't need another QB. We have me." Tyler glared at Murphy. Sometimes the guy could be a grade-A idiot.

"What if you go down?"

Bruiser jumped into the fray. "We have Brett. He's better than people give him credit for."

Tyler frowned. "Brett Gunnels? Who says he'll even make the team this year? He's too small, too old, and too slow."

Somehow that got Bruiser's hackles up. "Yeah, well, your head is too big to be so empty, and they still keep you."

Derek and Zach burst into laughter with high fives all around, except for Tyler. He hated to be the butt of anyone's jokes.

"F-you," Tyler snarled.

"There isn't one non-starter that works as hard as Brett. Heck, most of the starters don't work that hard either." Bruiser sat back and crossed his arms over his chest, stabbing Tyler with an accusing look, but not much fazed Tyler, except to be told his head was empty.

Tyler ignored his running back and looked to his cousin. "Who do you think we'll draft first?"

"They need a good defensive tackle like Williams or Richardson. We have a big hole there as proven last season." Derek glanced around the room, always needing the approval of others, which made him a bit of a pussy in Tyler's estimation, even though Derek was fearless on the field.

Tyler grinned and pointed at Zach. "I think they'll pick a linebacker to replace the old man here."

"Hey, I'm not much older than you."

"By whose calendar?"

Zach grunted, not giving Tyler the satisfaction of baiting him into an argument. "So let's put our money out here." Zach threw a twenty on the table. "Winner gets the pot."

Everyone followed suit, except Bruiser, who never carried cash. He swore he'd pay up, but Tyler knew that story. Bruiser didn't like to part with his cash. He was even stingier than Zach, and that was saying a lot.

Turning toward the TV, they waited for the first pick to be made.

Who do you think the Seattle Lumberjacks should draft in the first round?

Thanks for sharing this scene with us, we're gunning for Zach's ring and another Superbowl win for the Jacks!

BOUND by Bonnie Bliss is a BDSM short story collection about a group of people who are somehow interconnected with each other, all of them into the kinky lifestyle. I honestly found the stories a little funny, I'll explain why later, but if you're after the fantasy of sexual domination, kinky play and all that, I'm sure you'll have a blast reading BOUND.
Ownership was non-negotiable.
Bondage on the 4th of July is the first short in the collection. This is only 3 chapters but packs a punch in the smexi-menage department. You have Millie, holding a torch for her big brother's bestfriend, Brad, who's now a Marine and home for the holiday with his other bestfriend Kenny. Short of the story is their menage can sure compete with the 4th of July fireworks. However, I find the BDSM part a little funny and Brad a little amateurish. It just didn't feel authentic and more like Brad is a poser or something, he might be gorgeous and powerful but he didn't strike me as a Dom.

Halloween Submission is a kinky costume party which turned into a disaster but still ended happily. Tom, Millie's big brother, is known in the kinky circuit as a badass Dom. He's got the hots for Lucy, Millie's roomie, whom he shared an intense bondage session in the past. Since then, they weren't able to shake each other off and have been secretly pining for each other. They've been avoiding each other but obviously it was pointless because they move in the same circle and their eventual hook up is inevitable. Lucy and Tom's story is sound but I find Millie a little contradictory. She's already owned by Brad, why is she still hooking up with other Dom's at these parties?

A Slave for Christmas revolves around Brad's bestie, Kenny, whom we've met in Bondage on the 4th of July. After getting injured, he met an old high school classmate, Lindsey, who turned out to be a submissive and have the hots for him. Lindsey's confession at his bedside about her secret crush and craving for the kink was awkward at best and Kenny saw it as an invitation. Their bondage session is the most challenging to read because BBliss pushed the envelope package to the hilt I felt traumatized! Their creativity disturbed me, I was super speed reading those parts!

Overall BOUND isn't my kind of BDSM erotica. I find it funny that these people are all connected and live in the same neighborhood or something it made me think of a D/s version of Stepford. I didn't find the Doms to be seductive or sexy, for sure they're not Christian Grey or even a pale copy of him. To me, it came off as if these people are in it because they want to experiment or because it's popular and they're riding the latest trend. But despite my subjectivity, I still had a great kick out of it, I find some of the scenarios satirical, funny and just plain awkward, I at least was entertained.

Guest Blog: Ali of Ginger Reads

We asked our blog buddy, Ali, of
Ginger-Read Reviews
to cast her favorite Young and New Adult characters. Like us, she can't get enough of these angsty, crazy kids so we asked her to cast them.
Okay, so it may be obvious by my list that I have a love of strong female characters and somewhat damaged male characters.

There is something about a weak female that turns me off, fairly instantly. If she doesn't show that she has a backbone (those are pretty useful items) pretty early on, there is a great chance I won't ever really connect with her. Plus, bad ass chicks are just cool.

When it comes to my book boyfriends, I like them a little fragile but still tough. Makes sense, right? You know, the type that hides a vulnerability behind a tough exterior. Love that.

Anyway, when picking my Young Adult/ New Adult Rat Pack...those where the characteristics that were in the forefront of my mind. The Rat Pack was full of beautiful, talented and just plain cool people that all had something a little special about them. So, here is my list of the special book people that hold a little piece of my heart.

Andrew Parish from

Landon Harlow
Keeping Secrets in Seattle by Brooke Moss
Landon is described as a younger, grittier David Beckham.

Katniss Everdeen
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
I would stick with Jennifer, she rocks the role!

Four/Tobias
Divergent by Veronica Roth
I actually like the casting for Theo James on this one.

Karou & Zuzanna
Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
Pheobe Tonkin, of course she'd have to dye her hair peacock blue

Matt Watkins
Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park
He may be an odd choice...

Remy King
Hollowland by Amanda Hocking

Alexa & Kayden
Blood Warrior by H.D. Gordon
I swear there are so many authors that model their boys after him!

Kayden
Sovereign Hope by Frankie Rose

Review: Eternally Devoted by Stacey Kennedy

Series: Frostbite 4
Format: Digital ARC
Excerpt
Release Date: March 29, 2013

Publisher: Self
Source: Author
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo

Tess Jennings, who has been gifted with the ability to see ghosts, struggles to help the Grand Master of the Animus, Alexander, cross over. She might even have discovered who murdered him, but she has no way to prove it.

Adding to her pile of failures, Tess must accept a harsh reality—she has officially run out of time. The closer she gets to an answer to save her ghost lover, Kipp McGowen, the more she’s realizing she’s been searching for an answer she didn’t want to find.

Tess will have to make difficult choices, and her decisions will lead to consequences she cannot predict. Will Kipp finally take a living breath again, or will Tess take her last and join him in the Netherworld forever?
Waaah!

I am so frickin' happy-sad that Stacey Kennedy's Frostbite series is over! Donezo! No more Tess and Kipp! No more B.o.B. worthy sensual ghost dreams! No more fantasies of some hunky guy visiting MY dreams and giving me the best. Sex. Ever! But at least these two finally got their well-deserved HEA.

Le sigh!

I've been a fan of Frostbite series since I read Supernaturally Kissed because the romance is sensual and the urban fantasy aspect is gripping and laced with the right amount of action to keep my mind engaged. But truly it's the forbidden love story that had me invested from the start. Here you have two people, one alive, the other a ghost, desperately in love with each other but can only express themselves through dreams if they're lucky! If you think long distance relationships are hard, try falling in love with someone who belongs in a different plane than you are! Don't get me wrong, their dream-sex are mothafrickin' hawt but after Tess wakes up, the fantasy ends and she's once again faced with the reality that Kipp is a ghost.
"I'll - we'll - never give up, not until you are back in your body."
Sudden tears welled in Kipp's eyes. "But at what point do we realize that might never happen?"
Their story progressed to their hard-earned HEA and the road was riddled with spikes and landmines. I don't want to give anything away but suffice to say that there's hope for Kipp to join Tess in the world of the living. And since Tess discovered that in Demonically Tempted, the poor girl was hell bent on bringing Kipp back. Hence the torture we, Frostbite series fans, endured in Mystically Bound because for a minute there I thought that we're being let down slowly and the only way for them to be together is if Tess meets a tragic ending...

Happy to report that wasn't the case but I sure was kept on the edge of my seat. The Animus murder-mystery felt like pulling tooth! I wanted to scream at all of them to go and help Tess save Kipp because they deserved it and solve their own problems themselves! Surely a group of witches can do that without Tess?! Turns out Tess is her own savior and she didn't need anybody or any spell to save Kipp. Happy-happy-joy-joy!

On to the HEA. I was grinning like an idiot towards the end. I must say that Kipp is a frickin' rockstar for even having the energy to bump uglies with Tess considering that he's been out of commission for the longest time! It sure made all the waiting and all their ordeals worth it because their reunion is oh, so sweet, and beyond fulfilling! I just love HEA's and these two more than deserved it. The ultimate ending was a little cheesy, with the neat little bow too perfect but I guess looking back, I really can't complain. All I can say is I'm glad Tess and Kipp's love test is over and they can finally be together.

So I'm cutting short my little ramble here. SKennedy's Frostbite series is one of the best paranormal ghost love story I've ever read. Tess and Kipp will pull you into their world and they won't let go til you've taken their trying journey with them and celebrate their much deserved bliss together. You can't help but root for these two, feel their pain and desperation and throw confetti at the end. SKennedy is great in weaving romance, heat and suspense, you won't be disappointed.

Au revoir, Tess and Kipp, you'll be missed.
