LAYERS DEEP is a new adult romantica by Lacey Silks and essentially a story about revenge. When Allie Green was 10, she witnessed her father's friend and boss accost her mother resulting to the loss of Allie's would be baby sister and their last link to her already deceased father. Wright is clearly obsessed with Allie's mother which had them moving houses and state every few years to avoid him but somehow, Wright always manages to track them down. This decades long chase and Allie's wrath pushed her to join the police force and eventually to come aboard the prestigious Cross Enterprises, a private investigative agency. As soon as Allie's eyes met Tristan Cross' a dam of passion broke but would partnering up with Tristan prove to be beneficial to her or would it derail her plans?

Any novel that has revenge as its theme is an instant draw for me. Vengeance may be God's but justice is best served in the hands of the victim. And Allie Green is one determined "victim". She went through a lot of things to get her mom secure and give them some semblance of security that Wright shattered all those years ago. Allie's made of fire, she's fiercely independent, ballsy, gorgeous and unabashed by her sexuality. I like Allie, she doesn't seem intimidating but at the same time she's self-possessed  and is the master of her own life til Tristan Cross wreaked havoc in it.
Tristan was the missing piece in my life who could make me forget,
Tristan Cross, I grew to like him too. Unlike other dominant males, Tristan didn't appear self-important to me. He didn't expect any form of submission from Allie nor did he dictate his will on her. He's a little presumptuous and assuming but from the start, one can tell he's got good intentions for Allie. He respects her self-reliance and doesn't baby her, he knows Allie is strong in more ways than one and helps her utilize that strength to do well in her job and personal life. Tristan is always one step ahead of her but never in a controlling way. However I do something tells me that Tristan is going to drop a bomb on Allie that may or may upend her life... big motivation for me to read book 2.

On paper Allie and Tristan are perfect for each other. They do it like bunnies and every scene is more searing than the previous. It doesn't matter where they are, when the mood strikes, they're compelled to give in to the need. Now I understand insta-lust, it's chemical, basic and instinctual and gutsy. What I didn't didn't like is the insta-love part. Ugh! I hate it when this happens because it's plain unrealistic especially with adults. Even the most hopeless of romantics practice some sort of restraint at some point!

Given that these two are beyond attracted to each other, Tristan is Allie's new boss and though playing with fire is exciting, I was expecting some sort of caution on her part. This is usually the case with heroines in this genre, they're too frickin' naive sometimes it's irritating! Tristan isn't any better either, I appreciate his straightforwardness and I'm sure that he's got Allie's background investigated and memorized but geez, let the emotional tension build a little bit. I can't help but question his intent and principles. Here you are flucking the brains out of your gorgeous employee, no strings attached (yet), you bring her to your house to meet your family and give everyone the impression that you two are exclusive and afterwards everybody is chummy like you guys have known each other since kindergarten. That just doesn't happen especially if your in the business of knowing other people's skeletons! Granted that it will eventually lead to that but again, insta-love is something I can't reconcile with.

Despite my gripes over Allie and Tristan's lightning speed love affair, I found LAYERS DEEP engaging and gave me enough reasons to look forward to reading book 2. LSilks gave us solid romantica smexin' that will keep our imaginations bumpin and grindin and the series plot is really good. It's humming with suspense with vengeance on the helm and human traffickers on the loose. The ending is a cliffhanger but I have a feeling the next part won't be bad news [I hope].

Revenge & Allie

Revenge has been guiding me my entire life. I've trained to be stronger and studied to be wiser so that when that moment to pull the trigger came I wouldn't coil.

And my opportunity to take a life of an unarmed man, finally came. The decision wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. As Allie, knew exactly what I wanted to do. I've been guided by vengeance to kill the man who'd ruined me and my mother's lives, since childhood.

But as Officer Green, I struggled.

See, cops are not trained to shoot to kill. We shoot center mass until the threat ceases to exist, so to pull that trigger was one of the most difficult decision of my life. Did I do it? Did i kill him?

Read my story in Layers Deep and you'll know. After all, there's always more to a story isn't there?

Lacey is an Author of Erotic Romance. Her stories come from her life, dreams and fantasies. She’s a happily married wife with two kids. Lacey likes to make her readers blush and experience the story as if they were the characters. Drawing on the reader’s most sensitive emotions through realistic stories satisfies her more than… …ok not really, but you get the point;) She likes a pinkish shade on a woman’s cheeks, men with large feet and sexy lingerie-especially when it’s torn off the body. Her favorite piece of clothing is a ‘birthday suit’.

Stalk Lacey!

  1. Ohh revenge always makes for a good plot line. Insta-love doesn't always bother me, but the author has to make me believe it. This sounds like one I could enjoy. Great review!

    1. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

  2. Thank you for hosting me today Braine :)

    1. Hi Lacey! Thanks for stopping by and I'm sorry for my little rant about the insta-love. Hard limit.

  3. Okay, I read Dazzled by Silver and I'm wondering what happened to Samantha and Kendra. Did I miss something? I'm glad you liked this, despite being irked by the relationship.

  4. I totally agree. Revenge themed books are such an appeal to me. Happy it was okay, sucks about the insta-love.

    1. Insta-love is why I did a self-imposed YA ban. In hindsight I guess that's expected of teens who doesn't know any better. With adults, no valid justification for me.

  5. I have this ARC as well, so I didn't read your review too closely, and I chose it based on the revenge as well. It always makes for an exciting plot. Insta-love is really not high on my list, though, but I guess now that I know it's there I'm forewarned.

Have a great day, Braine :)

  6. You know, I don't think I've read all that many with revenge as the theme. Hmm. It sounds pretty good. I do love some good sexy scenes. Not wild about the insta love bit either. I've read a few where it worked but a lot of the time I just want to shake em and go "it's. Been. 2. Days!!" lol

  7. I was so happy to see you review this, Braine. It had caught my interest as well. ;) I'm glad that that Layers Deep was mostly good. I'm with ya on the insta-love thing though. However, it sounds like you connected with Allie and Tristan on other levels. Plus, there's that whole revenge thing. ;) Great review!
