She's got three rules:1. Trust no one… Eve Edens has been abandoned, used, or manipulated by almost everyone she's ever met. Born into ridiculous wealth, she's dealt with the petty jealousies and sordid little resentments for nearly thirty years. But after three botched attempts on her life, she can no longer ignore the truth. Someone wants her dead.2. Avoid the bad boys at all costs… William "Wild Bill" Reichert, the wonderfully sexy boy who abandoned her years ago, is back in town. Only he's no boy. Now he's a covert operative - and he's all man. When Eve hires Bill to help her discover who is behind the attacks, Bill soon comes to suspect it's someone much closer to Eve than she dares to believe.3. And never fall for the same ruse twice… The search for the killer takes Bill and Eve deep into the dark secrets and strange world of the rich and famous, and into the heart of red-hot passion re-ignited by the peril that threatens to consume them both. But does Eve dare risk her heart on Bill a second time?
They weren't a chartered MC - motorcycle club - but that didn't mean they weren't living the whole outlaw lifestyle just the same.
First off I'd like to greet Julie Ann Walker a HAPPY RELEASE DAY for BORN WILD! Thanks for these wonderful stories and I'm so psyched that there's more to come!
BORN WILD is Black Knight's Inc.'s fifth installment and it's far from slowing down. We got our first look at Bill Reichert and Eve Eden's combustible attraction back in Thrill Ride and I knew right then that I will very much enjoy their story and Eve will be quite the interesting heroine to read about. There's something about these Black Knights that I find so bearish and cute, they're all brawn when it comes to hunting out the bad guys but they turn like bumbling schoolboys when faced with their potential mates.
And Wild Bill is no different. He and Eve had a past but because of Eve's meddling elitist father, that romance fell apart. Still the two somehow remained in orbit of each other brought about by a few common friends and that close proximity is a constant reminder of what they lost and can have again. I can't help but smile and giggle every time Bill would fist his hands in an effort to get his hands off Eve or "see" the muscle on his cheek throb because of jealousy. Aside from those futile attempts, Bill's protectiveness and apparent love towards Eve after all these years is downright panty melting and endearing. I don't know about you, but there's nothing sexier to me than a loyal man.
Eve Edens. I knew I was going to love this girl from the start! Next to Becky, Bill's sister, wife to BKI's boss and In Rides Trouble heroine, Eve's my next favorite gal in the series. Eve and Becky are besties and are somewhat opposite of each other. While Becky is tough as nails, Eve is soft around the edges with a steel core (evident in Ch. 15). But despite Eve's privileged background and entitlement, she's far from being the spoiled bitch heiress. She's driven to make something for herself and doesn't go about town with superficial airs looking down her nose on Middle America. Eve is very accessible, super likable and I love how her sexiness is not in your face. She's all apple pie and honey and quite a welcome change compared to the other sassy BKI women.
The conflict was a little dark but two shades lighter than Hell on Wheels. The blurb is forthright in telling us what it is but as someone close to her is involved in the attempt. I mean what kind of world and life are you living when the people you love and trust are gunning for you? I can't help but feel bad for Eve and be sympathetic towards her. And like the previous novels, BORN WILD gave us a preview of what kind of romantic mess we'll be reading about in BKI 6, Hell For Leather (out May 6, 2014). Mac and Delilah sounds like a classic BKI couple, brass and sass, and I'm looking forward to the kind of hell Delilah is going to put Mac through before he gets the nookie.
You better watch your mouth, asshole. Because in case you can't see through all your tears, Eve really wants off the leash here. And, rest assured, the only thing standing between you and a ripped out throat is the is the fact that I'm holding that leash.
BORN WILD was, is, a great read. Eve's character development alone is worth reading and staying up late for. Gone is the meek and weak poor little daddy's girl, she's now an empowered woman and Bill's love cemented that steely disposition she now has. I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record here but Black Knights Inc. just keeps on getting better and better. JAWalker, keep on drinking that kool-aid and keep the words flowing, BORN WILD is an amazing installment and I'm sure the next one will be as good if not better.
