Top 10 Best and Worst Series Enders

Top 10 Tuesday is an original meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish

DEAD EVER AFTER & BREAKING DAWN are on my list because I felt the resolution was lame compared to all the build up. Like Sookie's ultimate nemesis are THOSE personalities? She's battled way worse! And HEAVEN just turned to mush, ended up disliking Bethany, her character developed in the opposite direction.

CLOCKWORK PRINCESS has the best. Ending. Ever. Everything was perfect and CClare had me tearing on so many parts of this book. Standing ovation for CClare for this. DEATHLY HOLLOWS & THE ENCHANTRESS turned me to mush as well and FINALE & MOCKINGJAY ended their respective series well in the sense that the resolution to the major plots were perfect, each issue answered, each character had closure to an extent.

As for SHADOWFEVER & THE MISTRESS, I know that the series for these books are far from over but the reason why they made the list is these two are story arc closers.

What's your best & worst?

  1. I agree with these! Clockwork Princess especially. I was pretty happy with Mockingjay as well. And yes, Shadowfever was Ah-MAZING!

  2. I agree with you about Deathly Hallows. I didn't like the epilogue, but over all it was a decent finish to the series!

    1. I was OK with the epilogue, that's how I saw the HEA sort of but all the other events on that book are so challenging to go through. It's like losing family.

  3. Well, I have hung off reading Mockingjay as I have a phobia about how it will end. But I must break through that phobia!! I have Clockwork Princess to read, I normally read Casandra's books the minute I get them, but I was afraid to end a series. It is my first ending to a CC series. I got end-of-series stage fright.

I did it with Finale as well. End-of-series-stage fright!! So on your recommendations I will finish these 3.

Now Shadowfever, giddy up!!! Loved it!!!

I have Mistress here from publisher but I have to read the others first in the series.

Hp was a good one too. Don't know that other book.

Now I think the most WTHHHHH!!!! ELLL!!! Ending was for Richelle Mead's Shadow Heir. It drove a few peeps a bit funky, but at same time it was unpredictable and there was shock value and a few moral issues there. So that is the one that comes to mind for me in her Dark Swan series. Now if she wanted a spinoff series, holy mac and cheese would that start off explosive. Whahhh!!

    1. WTH that's a LOT of delays, Matey!

VA is a series I haven't had the urge to read through. It's lost its steam

  4. I totally agree with the worst. But I also think Shadowfever was pretty disappointing.

    1. Shadowfever was cliffhangery but there are things that I found closure with AND I loved how it set up Dani's books. Can't wait for Burned!

  5. Sookie's story was disappointing, Edward and Bella was too pat of an ending. I thought Stacey Kennedy's series about Kip and Tess ended well. I liked the wrap up in Shadowfever. The Shades of Earth by Beth Revis left me mostly satisfied. I don't seem to really read many with series ending or I'm not near the end yet now that I think on it.

    1. Kip & Tess' ending was good but I think the third book was a filler but as I love them, I didn't really mind it as much.

  6. Nice list, I see we have a few in common, but I haven't read majority of the list.
    Happy reading!

  7. I'd have to agree with Breaking Dawn...that was definitely my least favorite in the series. I loved Shadow Fever, Mockingjay (I'm glad I'm not the only one!), and The Deathly Hallows. One of my favorite endings is Alpha, the end of Rachel Vincent's Shifters series. I also liked the ending of Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely series. I'm trying to think of others...but I'm gonna have to admit that there are a few series that I adore but haven't yet read the last book. (Clockwork Princess, for example ;)

  9. I'm glad I'm not the only one who liked Mockingjay! And Deathly Hallows is great ending for Harry Potter. I haven't had a chance to read Infernal Devices, but I've heard so many good things about it that I'm really going to have to read it soon. Thanks for stopping by my list!

    1. Thanks for returning the visit. Yeah, Mockingjay is polarized, I think it has something to do with the boys.

  14. I've heard many people say the same thing about Dead Ever After as you did. I quit that series a few books ago. I completely agree with you on Deathly Hallows. But honestly, that series is beyond compare.

    1. Harry Potter is one of those rare series where it really grew up with its readers. It started as a children's book then turned into YA/Adult.

  15. I've only read Halo, and haven't picked up the rest of that series, and seeing all this love for Clockwork Princess makes me really want to get around to that series! Thanks for the follow, I'm following back!

  16. I'm so glad you argree with me on Mockingjay! People are so negative about it iand honestly it confuses me because an ending like that is just to be expected!
    Great picks!

    1. I think lots of peeps disliked it because Katniss chose Peeta. It's always about some boy.

  17. I totally forgot I'd read Twilight series, lol. How'd that happen? I think I should have gone through my Goodreads list this week. Mockingjay was a mix for me, mostly good, some parts disappointing. I might check out Clockwork Princess series if it's getting such rave reviews... another for the ever-growing list :-)

  19. I have so many of those still to read. I'm totally chicken about reading Shadowfever. I've had the book for freaking ages but after book 4's ending. Yeah I'm a total wuss and scared to actually read it. LOL Agree on sookie. I know how it ends but can't get myself to read it. I wasn't happy to hear the spoilers and how things turned out.

  20. I definitely agree that Clockwork Princess, Finale & Deathly Hallows were fantastic ends to their series'. All three of them had me in tears. I really liked Mockingjay, but I didn't think it was a brilliant ending to the series.
    Great list! :)

    1. Thanks and all this polarization about mockingjay is tempting me to write a short editorial piece about the darn book... if only I can remember all the details now.

  21. LOVE Clockwork Princess! *gushes* It was so perfect! But I wasn't sure about the epilogue; I didn't like how she got both.

    Great list, though! :D

  22. I didn't participate this week, only because I haven't finished any of the series I've started reading. Not because I didn't like them, but because I keep getting sidetracked with other books before I can even get close to finishing them. Also because a lot of them have like a zillion books in their series, lol.

  23. Huzzah for HP! I haven't read most of the others. (I will admit I gave up after Twilight; Edward is too much of a stalker and Bella too 'oh-I-can't-live-without-you for me.) I've been debating the Cassandra Clare books, which I hear are really good, but I'm burnt out on love triangles. Maybe later...
