Her Angel 101 with Felicity Heaton + Giveaway

I'm sure y'all are familiar with Felicity Heaton or any one of her series from your travails in Amazon or in the blogosphere. Today she's here to talk about her Her Angel, a paranormal romance series about guardian angels.

BRAINE: Hi Felicity! Thanks for stopping by Talk Supe to talk about HER ANGEL. Can you tell us what the series premise is?

FELICITY: Absolutely. The HER ANGEL series is all about sexy passionate angels determined to protect their women from a terrible game between Heaven and Hell. The first three novellas introduced some of the characters and set up the world, and then the game began in the first novel, Her Guardian Angel, which was the fourth book. It was a tumultuous journey for the hero and heroine, and other characters in the series in that book. The fifth book, Her Demonic Angel, turned up the heat as we spent more time in Hell and the Devil made a play for power, and now we’ve reached the sixth book, Her Wicked Angel.

BRAINE: For those who aren't familiar with HER ANGEL, which other PNR series is it similar with?

FELICTY: I honestly couldn’t say. I haven’t read any other series involving angels, so have nothing I can compare it with, and many series about angels feature fallen ones, while mine aren’t fallen. It’s hard to say. If I could compare it to non-angel paranormal romance, I would say readers of Lara Adrian’s books would really enjoy it. It has that same dark, passionate, dangerous feel to it and big things happen in each of the novels.

BRAINE: Your Angels, how are they similar and different from the archetypes?

FELICITY: I think they’re quite different to the typical angels out there. These are passionate, protective males who all work for a higher power, or at least were working for that power at the beginning of their stories. They’re slowly banding together to form a new power, a group of angels and kick-ass women intent on living their lives how they want to without the threat of annihilation by Heaven or Hell hanging over them.

I have different castes of angels from Heaven, all identifiable by their wing colour and armour colours. These angels are broken down into guardians, warriors, angels of death, and mediators. There are fallen angels, but those angels can work their way back into Heaven. Then, there are those who have fallen AND pledged themselves to the Devil. Those angels can’t go back to Heaven (well, only if someone kills them) and they have a different appearance to their former selves, gaining red wings and an alternative appearance that is more demonic.

Angels in this world are eternal, but they can be killed too. If that happens, they are sort of reset. They return to Heaven without their memories, reborn in their original form, although they can end up changing what division they serve under, and therefore their wing colour.

BRAINE: What kind of woman lands an Angel?

FELICITY: The strongest sort. While the main attraction of the series are the passionate, powerful heroes, the main story arc is actually about the women they fall in love with. Those heroines are the true power in the series. They each hold a secret within them, often something astonishing that they never knew about themselves. They’re the real focus of the series.

BRAINE: Correct me if I'm wrong, but your Angels are male and the females are humans, right? Is this your plan and if so, why only male angels? Are you planning to write a story where the Angel is female and the male is human?

FELICITY: In this world, there are only male angels. The reason behind this is all explained in Her Guardian Angel, so I can’t say much on the subject without giving so much about that novel away. I wanted all of the angels to be male because many of the older statues and stories of angels paint them as male in appearance, and I loved the thought of these powerful, beautiful, and dangerous immortals being warriors in their cores, capable of endless good or great malevolence and destruction. Most of the heroines are mortal. Two are witches. One is half-demon.

BRAINE: The romance part is the clincher in PNR series, what's so unique and special about HER ANGEL in terms of the love story?

FELICTY: I think the set up that the women are the ones who often turn out to be more powerful than their hero yet they are fighting for their lives in his terrible eternal game between Heaven and Hell and need their hero to protect them while they’re coming to terms with the strange twist their lives have taken. You have very unlikely allies in all of the angels. You can just imagine that Hell’s angels probably don’t get along very well with their more Heavenly counterparts. Add to that a heavy dose of passion and sensuality, intense emotion, powerful action scenes, and a serious amount of threat and danger constantly hanging over the heads of the hero and heroine, and I think you have a perfect paranormal romance.

BRAINE: We've had our fill of vampires and shifters and a variety of Angels. Personally I find it 100% forbidden and complicated because I'm afraid for my soul so I think I'll probably won't aspire to have an angel lover, fallen or not. But for those who love this trope, what's so swoon-worthy about your Angels?

FELICTY: They’re incredibly intense, passionate and protective, and they’re powerful and possessive to boot. They will do anything to protect their heroine and keep her safe from harm, even though she’s often powerful enough to take care of herself. That only makes them want to protect her more. These are men who will fight until they can barely stand and still keep fighting if their heroine is in danger. They exist for her and they fall hard for her. Their loyalty, passion, affection, and determination will melt the hardest of hearts.

BRAINE: So far there are six books in the series, how many books are you planning to write for the series?

FELICITY: I have another novel coming next year, and that will end the current main story arc that has been happening over books 4-6. After that, I’m not sure, but I do believe there are other angels we’ll be meeting in book 7 who might want their stories told.

BRAINE: For HER ANGEL fans, what's the direction the series is taking after Her Wicked Angel?

FELICITY: It’s definitely about to get epic and game-changing again. There’s serious trouble on the horizon, and not just for the heroes and heroines in the series. The fate of the three realms—Heaven, Hell and the mortal world—hangs in the balance in this one. Let’s just say it’s going to be apocalyptic and things will never be the same.

BRAINE: Let's talk about the latest novel, Her Wicked Angel, a bit. How is this different from the previous books?

FELICITY: Her Wicked Angel is about Asmodeus, the King of Demons and the Devil’s right hand man. He wasn’t created in Heaven like all of the other angels in this world. He’s the only angel in existence who was forged in Hell and he was created by the Devil.

The Devil and Apollyon (hero of Her Dark Angel) have a battle every so many centuries that decides whether the Devil can leave Hell, or whether he’s consigned to the bottomless pit and trapped in Hell until their next match. When the Devil first defeated Apollyon, he tortured him to the brink of madness, until all that was good in him was destroyed, and then used his blood to create Asmodeus.

Asmodeus is an angel born for destruction and evil, but beneath his cold and often cruel exterior there is a glimmer of good, a seed that he hides from his master and the three realms because in his world, good is a weakness.

When he is sent to the mortal world to retrieve a female for the Devil and sets eyes on the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen, a woman who challenges him at every turn and seems to have a mystical power over him, that sliver of good begins to grow and he realizes that he can’t let his master have her… because he wants her for himself.

Liora is a witch and has always known that angels existed, but she never thought she would meet Asmodeus. The glowering dark angel warrior with his black wings and golden eyes makes her burn hotter than Hell itself and she can’t resist the fierce attraction that blazes between them. He’s dangerous and deadly… and he might just be her only hope for survival.

BRAINE: You have series about angels, vampires, shifters, princesses and other creatures, are you planning to write any contemporary romance novels?

FELICITY: I wrote a few contemporary romances years ago, but to be honest, they bore me. I prefer to write big worlds where my imagination can run wild and I can really put my stamp on something. Paranormal romances let me do that. I love writing science fiction romance and fantasy romance for the same reasons. I write books I want to read, and when I read I want an escape from reality… I don’t want to read about some boss and his office romance. I want to be swept away into the arms of a powerful, dark male fighting to save me from some crazy villain in a truly amazing world.

BRAINE: If you're to be on the front page of NYT, what would the headline say?

FELICITY: British romance writer discovers vampires are real and living in secret among us… I honestly don’t know. If it has to be serious, well, I guess there’s nothing more serious than discovering vampires are real, right?

BRAINE: Do you have upcoming appearances and/or book signing where fans go and meet you?

FELICITY: None planned right now. I’m yet to do my first convention. I get asked to do them by my readers, but it’s really difficult for me because I’m British and living in the UK. Not only that, but I’m a terrible wallflower in person and can’t talk to strangers easily. I think I would need an interpreter with me who could explain my facial expressions and what I’m saying without saying anything at all. I would probably just spend the whole time blushing. I’m hoping to bust my convention cherry soon though. Just need to choose the right one!

Her Wicked Angel
Her Angel 6
September 21, 2013
The King of Demons and the Devil’s right hand man, Asmodeus is a dark angel born of evil and created for destruction. When his master orders him to venture into the mortal world and retrieve a female for him, he seizes the chance to leave Hell for the first time, uncaring of what the Devil has planned for her… until he sets eyes on the most beautiful woman he has ever seen—a female who awakens new feelings within his black heart, unleashing passion so intense that it controls him and desire he cannot resist.
He will not let his wretched master have her. She will belong to him.

Liora is a witch with a bad reputation and an obsession with fighting demons. A mission gone wrong sees her sent to Paris to cool off, but when a dark and deadly warrior with a gaze of golden fire lands in her life, she ends up burning hotter than Hell for the wicked angel. Nothing will stand between her and the immense, forbidding male. Not her cousin. Not Asmodeus’s sworn enemy and twin, Apollyon. And certainly not the Devil.

Caught up in a tempest of danger and soul-searing passion, can they survive against the odds and seize their forever after?
