"I have always been strong, independent and wanted a life that belonged to me. It's the very reason why I chose to attend Stanford because it is away from the small-town life that seems more Twin Peaks than charming. Secrets are a dangerous commodity and Pine Bluff has them in spades. So do my parents, and the dirtiest secret of all is my brother, Trey. Sergeant at Arms for the Demon's Bastards, a criminal, a felon, and perhaps the catalyst for the tragedy that destroyed my life just days before I was supposed to leave for college.

"Now I am on the run because my life is in danger and I could be next. I don't want to live my whole life looking over my shoulder and I don't want to live my life shrouded in despair. Anxiety has me in a death grip, unable to let go. I pop Xanax to get through the day and were it not for my famous cousin, I would probably be dead already.

"My name is Trista Lennon, and I am tired of being afraid."

Linx Carter never thought he could help anyone when he could barely help himself. He is hanging on by a thread after a tough, six-month Gods of Rock Tour with his band, Winter's Regret, and Scarlet Fever. He has a greedy ex-wife, two sons and all he wants is to put the pieces of his life back together.

Linx knows there is something special about Trista from the moment they meet. She's wounded, in desperate need of a friend yet feminine, feisty and no one's charity case. She is the strongest woman he has ever known.

Through their friendship, they will find the strength to heal themselves and love one another but a feud between two gangs is brewing. Trista is caught in the crossfire, and by proxy, so is Linx. What they discover might not only cost them the love they have for one another but their lives too.

Bikers and rockstars. A lethal combination and something a LOT of romance readers will absolutely LOVE and devour! OUT FROM UNDER by Selene Chardou is a full length novel running at 320p but you'll fly through the pages in no time because she'll draw you in with the rawness of her characters and their unbelievably fascinating stories. Trista Lennon is smart and beautiful, she brings with her the coarse reality of being part of the MC world while Linx Carter is the epitome of a brooding rocker. These two are somewhat of a cliche but SChardou has a way of telling their story that made the collusion of their world captivating it was hard to look away.

The Cliche
Trista Lennon is in the fringes of the criminal world of Pine Bluff, Nevada. Her boyfriend is a Demon's Bastard MC (very SOA down to their Irish roots and connections) prospect and her brother is the Sgt. At Arms. Aside from these close connections, her parents are accountants, laundering dirty money for multiple MC's and other shady organizations. But despite her questionable ties, Trista is not only gorgeous but smart. She's on her way to Standford University to study business until her parents met an accident that turned her world upside down.

Linx Carter is a bassist for Winter's Regret, burned out from living in a suitcase due to his band's world tour. His personal life is no bed of roses either, it's stuff tabloids and reality shows are made of. Linx married his sweetheart but later divorced due to usual reasons: cheating, drug use, extreme partying, etc. He has two kids with her and Cash Cow is an appendage added to Linx's title.

The Nuance
As far as the story goes, Trista made all the difference and capitulated OUT FROM UNDER from a cliche to a very honest and satisfying read. Trista is my kind of gal, she's not whiney, even when vulnerable, Trista only swung and swayed with life but never broke. She awed and pained me with her tremendous strength. This heroine is very self-possessed, has a smart mouth and doesn't look at the world through rose colored glasses even when she's in love and in the throes of passion. She dishes and takes things as it is, sometimes even leaning more towards the pessimistic side due to the recent tragedies in her life. Her relationship with Linx isn't what I'd call romantic, it's whirlwind, yes, but it was born from deep seated needs and solitary loneliness. My only qualm is the suddenness of a particular thing, I have no doubt that these two are in love with each other but I can't help but question the spontaneity and lack of excitement or celebration. I wish I could explain more but I don't want to give away that part of the ending.

OUT FROM UNDER has shifting POV's but Trista's is more powerful than Linx and as their relationship grew, Linx became Trista's rock and comfort. I wasn't swept away by these two's romance because there's nothing rosey about their lives when they met. There's no courtship, they didn't really bother with foreplay and tension but rather took the friend/confidante path and it blossomed from there. It was the honesty and desperation of these characters that reeled me in.

I like SChardou's storytelling style. I loved how she introduced her characters, dishing out their backstories from the start which gave me a quick sense of who and what they are and whether or not I'll like them. The world she made is pretty small, there's a bunch of colorful secondary characters and they're all interconnected somehow it's almost incestuous. But even with these dizzying relations, these intriguing tritagonists enriched the series and I'm pretty sure that their respective stories will be told eventually. SChardou gave all of them attractive characteristics they're practically begging for their own book.

OUT FROM UNDER is definitely one of those books that's hard to put down. It's very new adult in it's tragic, angsty, crass and emotional plot completed by complicated family drama made rich by dynamic sub plots and other twists and turns akin to SOA. As OUT FROM UNDER is hinged on the rock star side of the story, it looks like book 2, In Too Deep, will be told from the MC POV. I can already hear the sounds of gunfire and smell the acrid scent of burning tires and gunpowder.
Only difference between bikers and rock stars is that the latter have legit jobs while the former are usually doing something illegal. Other than that, they are one and the same. Always looking for the next hot woman to fuck...

I don't deserve you and you're much too intelligent for a fucking jerk like me. You make me feel like I can be a better person. I never though I would say that about an eighteen year old girl.

I'm not huge on the whole one night stand scenario and after everything I've been through, college isn't exactly the first thing I have on my mind. I mean, do I look like I'm ready for homework?

I pulled back after our kiss ended. “She already knew. GPS tracking and what not. The phone is registered on her account. It can’t be that hard for two ex-Navy SEALs to find out direct longitude and latitude. She has no clue what we’re doing here, so who cares? We’ll be married in less than an hour.”

He smiled and this time when he kissed me, his mouth devoured mine, and it was the absolute best feeling. His lips suckled on my bottom lip before my mouth opened and was set on fire, the kiss turning into a soul-stirring lip-lock that had me coming up for breath.

Linx’s lips trailed down to my neck as he pushed aside the lapels of my rope to display my breasts. His fingers squeezed my nipples until they were rock hard; it was an exquisite pain, and the feel of his calloused hands on my soft breasts caused heat to spread through my skin. My whole being ached with want and need.

His tongue replaced his fingers on my right breast,  the warmth of his breath and that beautiful organ in his mouth was intoxicating. I felt light-headed from the stir of emotions and my stomach burst with the wings of butterflies. The feeling between my legs was worse because I was so turned on, I just wanted him to take me; no prerequisites, nothing but his hard cock inside me.
As his mouth circled my nipple, sucking hard, his free hand reached between my legs and massaged my aching clit. He quickly plunged two fingers inside of me, eliciting a gasp from me at the sensation.

The orgasm he coaxed from my body shook me to my very core and drenched his fingers in my juices. His mouth came to meet mine again and I moaned against it as his tongue forced its way between my lips, as he kissed me passionately, deeply. I stood on shaky legs as he withdrew his fingers and placed them in his mouth—fuck that was the ultimate turn on—before he grabbed me by the back of my neck and kissed me again.

A sudden knock on the window rudely interrupted us. We both looked to see Kelly, the shopper, smiling at us though her face was flushed like she’d run a marathon.

“How the hell did she get back inside our suite?” My heavy breathing tried to keep up with the thunderous beating of my heart.

Linx had completely and utterly did a number on me and the worst part was I never saw it coming.

“She’s got a card key to the room, babe.” He kissed me again quickly before he rested his head on my shoulder and stroked my back with gentle hands.

“My clothes must be here,” I whispered to him.

“I can’t wait to strip the dress off you later tonight,” he said to me, his mouth close to my left ear.
We stared at one another and I could see, and feel, his desire for me. Neither of us attempted to move though the sooner we got rid of Kelly, the sooner we could get married and finally have sex.

  6. Trista sounds like an incredible character. It's also great when an author can take a cliche and expand on it to make the story something meaningful.
