Aleatha Romig’s CONVICTED!
And there are frickin' Consequences for the Truth.
CONVICTED by Aleatha Romig, the final book in the Consequences series, is one of my most anticipated books for this year. And I've had nervous sweat for many reasons while reading the conclusion to Claire Nichols and Anthony Rawlings' tumultuous relationship. Why you ask? Well first of all you never know which way the story will go because ARomig is brilliant like that. Tony didn't get devious all by himself, he sure got it from somewhere and his creator has a tight grip on the strings. To say that it was rollercoaster ride is a big understatement. Plus I use the phrase love story loosely in conjunction with CONVICTED because it is a story about love but you won't find bubble gum fluff here. What you'll get from reading Consequences is a mind-f*ck.
Compared to its predecessors, CONVICTED isn't as dark but it's still bumpy and a journey worth taking. When Truth ended I was left with a resounding What now?! because Claire evened up the playing field creating additional fringe to an already crazy story. I loved how ARomig carefully braided each plot line, addressed each issue painstakingly whilst doling out consequences to all the people involved. CONVICTED is told from two different points, the present and future intertwined, both moving towards point zero. The present is the calm before the storm and our first glimpse of Claire and Tony's future is downright heartbreaking. Two extreme points and the motivating factor here is What the frack happened?!. Next you'll find yourself flipping through the pages feverishly, you'll probably even lose sleep and may grip your ereader too tight for comfort because of events you won't see coming. Notwithstanding the unpredictable turn of events and intriguing conflict, the most striking quality of CONVICTED and the Consequences series is the character development. If you are to line-up the characters as they were from each book, you almost won't recognize most of them now from the first time we met them in book 1, Consequences.
For those of you who've read Truth, Catherine London will chill your bones in this one, I have no further words. John and Emily Vandersol are the only two people who remained constant in this menagerie. Some might see Emily as an overprotective sister but as a big sis myself, I understand where that desire to shelter is coming from. And to be fair, Emily went through pain and suffering from Tony's hands not just through her association with Claire but direct and intentional attack from the domineering billionaire. Plus the fact that she doesn't know a lot of Claire's truth so she's operating on limited and inaccurate knowledge adding to the fact that she only knows one side of Tony. Now Mererith Banks is someone I never expected I will give the time of the day. But this girl found herself to be a crucial key and her trouble making propelled the story to new heights. Her scenes with Claire moved me the most.
Claire Nichols-Rawlings, I can no longer recognize you. You've grown so resilient, brave and brazen, you are truly Tony's match. Gone is the meek, naive, and carefree meteorologist/bartender we met in Consequences. You've reinvented yourself into this svelte, cunning, matriarch survivor whom I can only admire and respect. I can go wax poetic on your character but that will be overkill so let me just say that your story is so engaging there's nothing like it. You're in a league of your own and one can only stay in awe to your strength as a woman. Even if you're not real, I'm sure there's only a handful like you out there so way to represent! #RESPECT
Finally, Anthony Rawlings. I have some serious bones to pick with this guy, he's so exasperating I was huffing, puffing and seeing blood red for two books! I've always wondered if ARomig will let him get away with how he treated Claire in the past and despite his slight change of heart for his wife in Truth, I felt that he needs a big serving of Consequence himself. And he did get served and achieved redemption in my eyes and it was so humbling and touching. This man was brought down from his lofty throne by love, kicking and screaming on his way down which made his fall (-ing in love) agonizing, earth shattering but eye opening and all encompassing. I'll still put him at arm's length but like Claire, this guy has been through a LOT and he's almost unrecognizable now. You've changed my mind boy and you've finally proven that you deserve an amazing woman in Claire.
It might be the end of the series but ARomig has more plans for the series so fellow fans, REJOICE! There's more to come but I'll let ARomig make the announcement herself. As for the ending of CONVICTED, ARomig can't resist to f*ck with our minds one last time so I'll say Whatever, bring it! to that. Now as for Claire and Tony? I'll leave it at they each got what they deserved.

A Series of Interviews in response to my 2011 Article about Anthony and Claire Rawlings which appeared in Vanity Fair
By: Anne Robinson
Flash forward...now it’s October of 2013, and the world is discovering that all was not as it appeared. My Life As It Didn’t Appear by Meredith Banks, (which was originally scheduled to be released by Parrott Publishing on October 1 but has been delayed again due to legal battles) will eventually hit the market. The release is imminent and the snippet alone has revealed a peek into the depth of misinformation in my original interview!
My goal with these interviews is to attempt to set the record straight.
This time I’m not working with Mr. Rawlings or Ms. Nichols. Why? Because they are both missing!
Ms. Nichols was last seen September 4, and Mr. Rawlingswas reportedly in a plane that made an emergency landing on September 21. He has not been seen or heard from since.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is more involved than a soap opera. Over the next few days, I will be releasing my “unauthorized” interviews with friends, family, and employees of these two individuals and hopefully settingthe record straight.
Please join me in learning the real story...what were these two individuals hiding from me AND from you in 2011?
Good afternoon Ms. McCoy, thank you for talking with us. May we call you Amber
Yes, please. I’m happy to do anything I can to help find Claire.
Can you first tell our readers how you came to know Claire Nichols?
I met Claire for the first time at my fiancé’s funeral.
That seems like an unlikely place to meet someone who would later come to live with you.
Yes, I suppose it does.
Isn’t it true that after Claire’s unexpected release from prison, she came to live with you in Palo Alto?
That’s right. She didn’t have anywhere to go, and she was trying to get away from Mr. Rawlings.
“Get away from”? Does this have anything to do with the information in the book, My Life As It Didn’t Appear?
It does; however, I never forced the issue with her, and she never told me all about it. I just got the feeling that she was deathly afraid—well at first.
Can you explain?
When she was first released from prison, she seemed truly frightened of him. I remember the first time he called her. He’d hired a private detective to find her—creepy, right? And once he found her, he called. Claire went pale as a ghost while she was on that call. My brother and I were afraid she would pass out!
Did she willingly move back to Iowa?
I think so. I know that it doesn’t make any sense. But, over time he worked his way back into her life. At first she rebuked all his attempts—she threw away flowers and sent back gifts; then, something changed.
Oh, I remember. It was after she said he blackmailed her.
What? Did you just say he blackmailed her?
Yes, at least that was what she told us. She said that he arranged for something to happen at SiJo Gaming that caused my brother to miss going with her to an annual charity gala. Once she was there, according to her, he promised that nothing would happen to my company, only if she agreed to pretend they were reconciling.
Did you believe her?
I didn’t have reason not to. Admittedly, it was pretty farfetched. Besides the problem that occurred at SiJo was fixed and determined to be just some kind of computer glitch. Maybe she was just making it up to lie to my brother. They were kind of dating at the time.
Do you think she would lie? Could the things in the book be a lie, too?
Oh, I didn’t mean that. No, I don’t think so. I mean, she was really scared when she first got here. But seriously, if it is all true, who in their right mind would go back with him? I mean, she even believed Mr. Rawlings was responsible for other crimes. I don’t think she was thinking straight...unless, she did it to protect SiJo, or she thought she was. I really don’t know.
Where do you think she is today?
I don’t know. I know neither my brother nor I have heard from her. Harrison received a call from Mr. Rawlings when she first went missing. The only other news that we’ve received was from the news outlets, just like everyone else. I hope she’s all right. It is weird that Mr. Rawlings is also missing. None of it makes sense.
Thank you Ms. McCoy.
