Loved It: A Cursed Embrace by Cecy Robson

Series: The Weird Girls 2
Format: Galley ARC
Release Date: July 2, 2013
Publisher: Signet Eclipse
Source: Publisher via NetGalley
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other twenty-something girls—with one tiny exception: They are the products of a curse that backfired and gave each of them unique powers that made them, well, a little weird…

After Celia Wird and her sisters help master vampire Misha save his family, their powers are exposed to the supernatural community of the Lake Tahoe region. But fame comes at a price, and being “weird” isn’t always welcome.

To make matters worse, Celia desires the love of Alpha werewolf Aric, but his pack is bent on destroying their relationship to preserve his pureblood status. And once weres start turning up dead—with evidence pointing to the vampires—she must face the prospect of losing Aric forever. But the chaos only masks a new threat. An evil known as the Tribe has risen—and their sights are set on Celia and her sisters.

A CURSED EMBRACE, the sequel to Cecy Robson's latest Urban Fantasy, The Weird Girls, immediately takes off where book 1, Sealed With A Curse, ended. And things are far from hunky dory for these supernatural Tahoe residents as they now battle demons and rabid weres. It seems like the Wird sisters have an X marked on them because since they've been out, the preternatural world just keeps on paying them hostile visits and their run-ins are more often than not, life threatening. First it was with a coven of witches, then they got attacked by vampires and now demons are interested in making them baby machines. Yuk!

A CURSED EMBRACE's plot is jolting one has to pay close attention to keep up with what's happening. Like  Sealed With A Curse, the sequel is told in Celia's POV and as the main character, she has grown substantially. I feel that Celia is more confident outside her role as big sister and a tigress and being with Aric added intriguing layers to her character and personality. As for the other sisters, Taran is still my favorite. Being the most extrovert of the sisters I have to say that Taran provides the comedic relief of the series in spite of her bitchy behavior and lack of tact. Her encounters alone with their nosey neighbor, Mrs. Mancuso, had me LOL. Even in extreme situations, Taran has the best lines much like Pam in True Blood. I only wish that we can get to know Emme and Shayna better because currently, Celia and Taran are the leads and their other two sisters, though integral to the story, remains in the background.

As for the lore/myth, the mystery behind the powers of the sisters are yet to be explained. I know CRobson gave us a brief backstory in the novella, The Weird Girls, but I still want to dig deep and find out exactly how, where and why these sisters are so random and the only one of their kind as far as being supernatural is concerned.
Losing you is my greatest fear - Aric
As for the heat, the girls sure upped the ante in this one. I sometimes feel like their house is too small for them with all the action going on in their respective bedrooms! Awkward! At the same time, I admire their openness and non judgmental attitude towards each other's sex lives and there's no such thing as TMI. And on the serious side of things, the girls' respective relationships are evolving and have been reaching new heights: exclusivity, mating, marriage (yes there's a wedding!) and break-ups. Celia and Aric's in particular has the most interest because theirs is the classic forbidden/love triangle and I wasn't very happy about how it went down especially the ending. Grrr!!!

A CURSED EMBRACE is a heart-stopping follow up to a very unique and certainly interesting bunch of heroines. The lore is fresh and CRobson's preternatural world is jacked with different species you won't have a problem paying attention. The sisters will have you laughing with their attempt at seduction, your jaws gritting from heartbreak, have you biting your nails from the suspense, and your heart clutched from a very close call with death (personally I wish she stayed dead not because I dislike her but the drama it will give the plot as a whole... yeah I know I'm talking in riddles). So future readers, hang on tight because Cecy Robson will take you for a ride that will rival any monster coasters you've ever been on.

Cecy (pronounced Sessy) Robson is an author with Penguin's SIGNET ECLIPSE. She attributes her passion for story-telling back to the rough New Jersey neighborhood she was raised in. As a child, she was rarely allowed to leave the safety of her house and passed her time fantasizing about flying, fairies, and things that go bump in the night. Her dad unwittingly encouraged Cecy's creativity by kissing her goodnight wearing vampire fangs. Gifted and cursed with an overactive imagination, she began writing her Urban Fantasy Romance Series, Weird Girls, in May 2009. THE WEIRD GIRLS: A Novella, debuts December 4, 2012 followed by SEALED WITH A CURSE, December 31, 2012, and A CURSE EMBRACED, July 2, 2013.

  1. It would go with the classic vampire and werewolf.

  2. Absolutely love this series! Happy Blogoversary ladies! xoxo

  3. Thanks for the fun post and congrats to Cecy on the new release! Loved the first book!! I think I'd want to be Cecily shoes.... the middle of a vampire-werewolf triangle :)

  4. The shifters and the vampire.

  5. Love triangles are always messy :/

  6. While love triangles in books can drive me crazy, Ms. Robson writes so well that it doesn't drive me crazy like others. Now being in a triangle.. Yum.. I wouldn't mind being between an alpha werewolf like Aric and a sexy mage like Adam from the Sabina Kane series.

  7. I think I wouldn't like one. Its more fun with one guy! And I think that one would eithrr be a vampire or a warewolf.

  8. I will never get sick of love triangles! I'd love to be in one (in the fictional sense) but I'm not sure who with... lol... a good-guy supe and a bad-boy human would be an interesting switch-up. :D

  9. Not me, I have enough trouble with one :)

  10. Triangles don't bother me if they are well written. Come on, you have to make the guy(s) work for it after all.

I wouldn't mind being in a love triangle with Jericho Barrons and .... well the other guy would be dead if Barrons was involved. LOL

  11. Love triangle between Werewolves and Vampire!

  12. Seems like a very unique set of heroines, and I like the sound of the triangle

  13. I agree with the others... love triangle between werewolves and vampires... intriguing.

  14. It would have to be between a vampire and a shapeshifter. It would be hard to chose I love both, especially the characters in the The Weird Girls. Love this series. Thanks for the giveaway.

  15. I would not like to be caught in a love triangle!

  16. Definitely a werewolf and a vampire! Thanks!

  17. Awesome review Braine! I really cannot wait to read this one...I love this series :)

  18. Living vicariously through PNRs, I wouldn't mind being caught between a vampire and werewolf or Fey Prince and a vampire. But in reality, I would probably be too chicken sh*T to ever be in the middle of that:)
