Writer Wrangler: Rebecca Berto

Rebecca Berto, our Goodreads buddy and New Adult author, is dropping by today to share her playlist for her latest novel,
Drowning In You. The novel is beautifully romantic and musical, lots of Maroon 5 playing in the background and Dexter playing his guitar. Let's see what other songs inspired, Rebecca.

Music Playlist

While I don’t always write with music on (tendency to get distracted and start singing, which makes it hard to write), I often sit at my computer or go for a walk and listen to select songs to get me in the mood before writing a scene. This playlist are the songs I listened to during writing DROWNING IN YOU (DiY).

The “feel” of Rihanna’s music was prominent when I wrote DiY. I adore her music—almost every one is my absolute favourite. I actually almost quote the lyrics from Only Girl in the World. Even though not all her lyric meanings match the mood of DiY, the feel of her below songs do.

Te Amo, Rihanna (feel of the song—not the story)

Take Care, Drake ft. Rihanna

Only Girl in the World, Rihanna

Other favourites of mine that gave me the right vibe for writing:

Ironic, Alanis Morissette

Mirror, Lil Wayne ft. Bruno Mars

I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing, Aerosmith

Breathing, Jason Derulo

Give Me Love, Ed Sheeran

There are references to Dexter playing Maroon 5 songs on his guitar. That absolutely comes from my LOVE for the band. And Adam. <3

Harder to Breathe, Maroon 5

She Will Be Loved, Maroon 5

This is Charlee...

As for Dexter...

Believe it or not I struck it lucky when I found my cover image. The model playing Dexter on the cover is exactly how I picked his look, except a wee bit more muscle definition as he’s a gym regular, and with tattoos scattered over his shoulders and arms.

Thanks for sharing these wonderful songs, Rebecca!
Don't miss out guys, get the book!

Purchase Drowning In You

Rebecca Berto is the author or the dark contemporary/literary novella, PRECISE and the new adult contemporary romance novel, DROWNING IN YOU. She is also a freelance editor.

She writes stories that are a bit sexy, and straddle the line between Literary and Tear Your Heart Out. She gets a thrill when her readers are emotional reading her stories, and gets even more of a kick when they tell her so. She’s strangely imaginative, spends too much time on her computer, and is certifiably crazy when she works on her fiction.
Rebecca Berto lives in Melbourne, Australia with her boyfriend and their doggy.
