Rebel with a Cause

Becky "Rebel" Reichert never actually goes looking for trouble. It just has a tendency to find her. Like the day Frank Knight showed up at her door, wanting to use her motorcycle shop as a cover for his elite special ops team. But Becky prides herself on being able to hang with the big boys-she can weld, drive, and shoot just as well as any of them.

Man with a Mission

Munitions, missiles, and mayhem are Frank's way of life. The last thing the ex-SEAL wants is for one brash blonde to come within fifty feet of anything that goes boom. Yet it's just his rotten luck when she ends up in a hostage situation at sea. Come hell or high water, he will get her back-whether she says she needs him or not.

Because there was one thing he could spot a mile away, and that was trouble. And Rebecca Reichert? Well. she had trouble written all over her...

Since I've met Frank and Becky on Hell on Wheels, I was instantly intrigued by their Spring/Summer affair, as Becky calls it. It was evident from the start that these two are feeding  their attraction to each other through snarky bickering which left both of them wanting and sexually frustrated for the other. So naturally IN RIDES TROUBLE is a promising Black Knights Inc. volume two considering the sexual tension building between these two. And I wasn't disappointed!

Given that there's already something brewing between Becky and Frank, it's only a matter of time before these two combust. And that they did. It started when Becky and her BFF pretty rich girl, Eve, who's incidentally Bill's (Becky's brother) ex-girlfriend. The two got abducted by Somalian Pirates in the middle of their vacation with the hopes that Becky can fix their oil tanker. As Becky isn't your normal mechanic considering her connections, a search and rescue operation was of course headed by Frank and the rest of his Black Knights plus the kid isn't without skills either. She did damage to her captor which put her high on his hit list. This close call is just what these two needed because going through a high-intensity, adrenalin pumped, life threatening incident gave them perspective and forced them to finally take the plunge and do something about their maddening attraction to each other.

"smart and talented and kind. She feeds her cat too damned much, and she's too nosy by half, but she's got the biggest heart and she's so flippin brave it kills me." [Frank on Becky]

I actually find Becky and Frank's "tango" very cute and really sexy. Like in Hell on Wheels, I really like the gender reversal as far as stereotypes are concerned. I liked how JAWalker made her women so self-possessed without being slutty, very empowered and comfortable with their sexuality. The men on the other had I find very adorable, rough and tough but they easily fold up around their women, turning into cuddly teddy bears. And Frank isn't any different. He's very careful around Becky, almost afraid as if she'd break, treating her like porcelain and I really love that! Alpha men doesn't always have to be douche bags, they can be tough and tender at the same time and I love how these Knights aren't afraid of being tender and soft around the ladies!

Because they were all alpha males, pumped up on testosterone and their own sense of self importance, used to doing every little pain-in-the-ass thing their won way.

I love JAWalker's writing voice, her characters are witty, snarky, a little silly and definitely entertaining. The romantic suspense element is light but gripping nonetheless. The conflict revolved around Frank and Becky's budding relationship, it wasn't overly dramatic, merely an innocent misunderstanding but it worked out fine because the premise has been light and fluffy from the start. The smexy isn't as hot as Hell on Wheels but it was more emotional which made it hotter for me.

I love Black Knights Inc., it's like the "good" version of The Sons of Anarchy with their badass bikes, life threatening missions, gorgeous women, hot men, hotter sex, tarnished backgrounds and wounded souls. Their unapologetic attitude towards life adds spice to the mix, the men may be damaged but they don't get major hang-ups over their personal tragedies. They're jaded but their  hardships aren't the focal point unlike some damaged Alpha male stories that I know. To use JAWalker's own words, Black Knights Inc. to me is slow, smooth, straight, steady. It's formula with a  an explosive twist.

So if you like good, spicy romance with a big dose of action, I suggest you add some Julie Ann Walker to your library. Her novels are quick reads, enthralling and swoon worthy you won't be sorry.

"One problem with you men is that you can never follow a conversation..."

It's not that we can't follow conversation," he told her in defense of every male in the planet. "It's just that we're linear conversationalists. When we veer off track, it takes us a while to reorient ourselves." [Michelle & Frank]

  1. I just finished Hell On Wheels last week. I didn't really like Ali, but Becky I think I could like! Sounds like I should continue on in this series!

    1. Yeah I wasn't a big fan of HoW either except for the last part where Ghost flashbacked, that got me teary and torn. But this one was really fun. Becky carried the story, she's amazeballs!

  2. Yay, you finally got to read it!! :D Becky annoyed me in this one, which was bummer cause I loved her in HoW. But this book was def better than the first! Keep r reading cause Thrill Ride is the best of them all ;)

    1. Haha! You seem to be annoyed with these girls I've noticed! I love Becky, she can do no wrong in my book. And I have to agree, Thrill Ride is the bomb digitty!

  3. Looks like I have another couple of books to add to my TBR list. Thanks for the in depth review!
