It hasn't been the best week for Jessica McClain.

Her mate has been kidnapped by a Goddess hell-bent on revenge --- but Jessica is playing for keeps.

Because she's the only female werewolf in comes with its own set of rules...and powers.

Aided by two vamps, two loyal Pack members, and one very reluctant human, Jessica must rescue her man while coming to terms with what being a wolf really means.

All in a day's work for a girl.

The second novel in the Jessica McClain series is a full on action adventure featuring one angry Goddess and plenty of monsters, demons, and a few newly risen beasties.
you have three seconds before my wolf comes out, and I can guarantee you're not going to like what she has to say.
And my favorite violet-eyed werewolf heroince, Jessica McClain, is back to kick some serious Goddess ass! Nobody messes with this Lycan and gets away with it especially when it's her mate's hiney, werecat, Rourke, on the line. In Full Blooded, Amanda Carlson gave us an amazing story with a unique were myth and Jessica being the ONLY female werewolf in the world is both a gift and a curse. Soon after her birth, she found herself in this bizarre adventure that had me losing sleep because I simply can't put the darn book down! Full Blooded wrapped up with Jessica finding her mate but just as soon as they found each other, Rourke was abducted by his ex-lover, Selene, a Goddess and now Jessica won't rest until the bitch is dead and Rourke is safe and tucked in her arms.

In the tradition of EPIC tales, laborious tests, hero-making, loyalty and undying love, HOT BLOODED did not disappoint! Throughout the novel I felt like I was reading a modern version of The Odyssey or Jason and the Argonauts (you know, those high adrenalin classic Greek epic tales where the heroes are put to the mortal test) because ACarlson sure put Jessica through the physical and emotional wringer! From the moment Jessica, Tyler (MY BOYFRIEND! Click here for Ms. Carlson's endorsement), the lovable Brit heartthrob, Danny, and the vampire twins, Eamon and Naomi, reached the psycho-bitch Goddess Selene's backyard, they've been faced with close to impossible hurdles. They've battled venomous bats, Naiads, giant Scorpio, trolls and a bunch of spells designed to kill and/or deter them from their mission. Luckily Jessica is a worthy opponent and her companions cunning so they managed to breach Selene's lair.

But Jessica is growing to her powers and it looks like the prophecy...

One shall walk again; above all others she is born;

Within her the beast shall lie, well hidden in True Form;

And from this day forth, the Children of the Night shall pay;
By her supreme rule, her righteous hand will slay;
Justice to all, as none are her equal;
The True Lycan will Vanquish all Evil.

As a Female in the Wolf Skin rises, the unforb Daughter of Cain is born;
In her the beast shall lie, well hidden in True Form;
And from this day forth, the Wolves of the Night shall pay;
Blood and flesh of their bones, her mighty hand shall slay;
The end of the race will be close at hand;
When the Daughter of Evil rules the land.

is really about her. Long story short, they were able to accomplish their mission but not without major damage. As Jessica is warming up to her powers and learning to wield it along the way, she's forging unlikely allegiances and finding new adversaries all at the same time. I guess being the sole female werewolf who's prophesied to be kick ass and downright powerful is making the Otherworld's hackles rise. Can't blame them, I don't want to be on Jessica's bad side either *shudders*.

I love how unassuming Jessica is and I find it utterly adorable that she's downplaying her potential and how she's trying in vain to keep things normal and grounded. *shakes head* Girl, you better get used to your infamy, keep up with the times, life as you know it ended a book ago. Normal is nothing but a memory for you now.

HOT BLOODED essentially is about Jessica's rescuing Rourke. In a way I felt like this is a filler novel of sorts but the non-stop action balanced the Sequel Curse. I'm surprised that Ray (human cop) barely survived (?) his ordeal, I'm eager to see what his storyline is going to be come Cold Blooded (Jessica McClain 3, October 8, 2013). I disliked the dude in Full Blooded but I have to say he kind of grew on me. I'm so happy that Tyler, MY Tyler, is a main character here and I love how his relationship with Jessica is evolving. There's some powerplay involved as Tyler is a natural Alpha but since him and Jessica are not on the same wolf category, it was quite interesting how he's protective, supportive and wary of Jessica's wolf. And of course the super adorbs Danny provided the funnies and most definitely upped the male hotness factor.

HOT BLOODED tied the Goddess story arc in a nice little bow, I'm a little sorry that we didn't get some sexy time with Rourke but the premise for Cold Blooded sounds super delish! Remember James? The super hot beta? Well he's involved in some very unexpected mess involving witches and warlocks so I'm pretty sure we're in for another epic adventure soon.

    1. Yeah, more Rourke time but at the same time I wasn't expecting him to get it on with Jessica. Just happy they're back together.

  4. Sorry there wasn't enough sexy Roarke time, but the series does seem to be heading in a good direction and James sounds nice to read about too
