After getting hurt in college by a gorgeous man, Nicole Magette vowed never to risk losing her heart again. Now she lives a structured and satisfying life. Her work is easy, her friends are her family, and the only consistent men in her life are her two cats, Winchester and Huntington Peabody the Third. She doesn't date, and she hooks up only with losers—men she has absolutely no risk of falling for. But if she finds herself in danger, she has her old fail-safe in place—the Code Red.

In college, she and her four best friends came up with the system as a way to keep away the good-looking bastards that might worm their way past their carefully constructed walls. Seven years later, three of her friends have succumbed to their last Code Reds and are happily married. Now it’s just Nicole and her closest friend, Jen, who are still on their own, and Nic is just fine with that.

That is, until Joshua Daniels is transferred to Nicole’s office from New York and assigned to work with her on a special project. He's everything she's avoided and everything she claims she doesn't want, so why can’t she get him out of her mind? He's persistent, dangerously handsome, and sexy as sin. In other words, he’s her worst nightmare. She turns to her friends to help her resist Josh’s considerable charms and the inescapable draw she feels every time she gets near him. Can the Code Red save her this time, or will Josh send her perfectly balanced life into chaos?
Amy Noelle's debut novel CODE RED is your classic Chick-Lit contemporary romance story. It has all the marks of what we love about Chick-Lit, reel us in and have us thinking about our own HEA. What's interesting about this story is Nicole Magette. She's a serial dater and very jaded after her ex-boyfriend cheated on her. Since then she stayed away from gorgeous men who have the potential to make her fall in love and essentially break her heart.

So for the most part, Nicole is an oxymoron of sorts. She's into this thing with Josh but at the same time she has her Kevlar vest on. And at the first opportunity, Nicole instantly went on defense mode, ready to throw everything she had with Josh under a very flimsy, unfounded assumption that resulted to CODE RED's conflict. In a way I could relate to Nicole's situation but seriously, it felt like she was just looking for faults because part of her can't believe that she's actually with a guy who will be the perfect match for her. Obviously I was rooting for Josh because the guy was simply PERFECT!

Joshua Daniels is a dream boat! Young, gorgeous, successful, smart, the guy you want to bring to your next family reunion. I love how he took his time with her. He emotionally seduced Nicole, left enough breadcrumbs for her to chew on until she was ready to take the next baby step. I love how he didn't let anything faze him, how he was very patient with Nicole and how he remained steady while Nicole was having a breakdown of sorts.

CODE RED is a good debut. I love how ANoelle kept things simple but kept it emotionally charged. I love how Nicole is such a strong woman, albeit a little crazy, and how she really sticks to her guns regardless of what the situation is, regardless if it's reasonable or not. There were a lot of things that had me relating to her from crushing over Josh, over analyzing every little thing, to how she had to do "girl stuff" before they first made love to how she just took the plunge and finally allowed Josh to sweep her away.

Aside from the main characters, Nicole's girlfriends are pretty solid and awesome too! They all have different personalities and opinion but remained loyal to Nicole. They helped keep things in perspective and basically they're the set of people one would be happy to call lifetime friends. I'm not sure if ANoelle is planning to turn this into a series but I'd sure love to read Jen's HEA.

Bottom line is, if you love light, contemporary romance reads, CODE RED is the book for you.
