Detective Astrid Holmes is a sensitive, a human capable of feeling the energy of otherworlders. When she is dispatched to the horrific murder scene of a local vampire, she expects it to be just another day on the job. But when evidence is stolen on her watch, she is removed—not only from the investigation, but from her job as a member of the Chicago police department’s paranormal unit.

Astrid’s only hope of reinstatement lies with her ex co-worker and almost-lover, Lycan Mason Sanderson. But convincing the OWEA agent to let her assist with the investigation isn’t nearly as difficult as staying alive when the murderer realizes that Astrid may hold the key to unlocking his identity.

Fighting to take down a killer could have deadly consequences for Astrid and Mason, but working together puts their already fragile relationship in jeopardy.

I'm a Tiffany Allee fan and I absolutely adore her From The Files of the Otherworlder Enforcement  novella series. I can't believe I almost missed the third installment, LYCAN UNLEASHED! Like the previous two OWEA novellas, LYCAN UNLEASHED is a procedural paranormal romance about a pair of detectives investigating a supernatural crime involving dead vampires, marital infidelity, witchcraft and treachery.

Astrid Holmes is a sensitive investigating a case with Lycan, Mason Sanderson. There's some obvious sexual tension between the two from the start but as they're case partners, they obviously tried to put a lid on their attraction. Aside from fighting off temptations, these two have deep rooted personal issues. Astrid is half-human which made her an instant outcast. As she comes from a family of powerful witches, being human didn't sit well with them. Mason for his part has some tragedy he dealt with in the past involving the death of his would-be mate. He too is an outcast now, a lone wolf and we all know lone wolves are volatile, brooding and captivatingly dangerous. So together these two are not only driven by their heated attraction to each other but due to some fierce loneliness as well.
You kiss me, then you call it a mistake. You act like you care about me one minute, then like you couldn't care less the next.
The way the romance developed between Astrid and Mason was slow burning at first then fast became passionate after they each finally manned up and took ownership of their feelings for each other. On that note it seems that TAllee has developed an M.O. as far as this series is concerned. One detective being taken off the case due to conflicts of interest. Partners falling in love with each other while working on the case. Varying shades of tragic backstories to layer the characterization. As much as I like how the story moved and concluded, I was hoping for a fresh twist this time around.

LYCAN UNLEASHED may not be my favorite installment in the series but overall I still enjoyed the story. TAllee's formula after all is exciting and both emotionally and sexually charged. Looking forward to OWEA 4, I'm not sure who the next set of characters are going to be but I'm sure there'll be all kinds of highly entertaining otherworldly stuff about to go down.

  2. Love your description of a lone wolf because you couldn't be more dead on! Though this is the first I am hearing of this series (I think) I'm not sure how I would do with it. I'm starting to get picky with series that don't add anything new into the mix but would probably give the first on a shot. Great review <3
