Gush & Gripe #13: LD Con + Swag Giveaway

So I was at my first ever book signing. It was the LD Con Nashville with Donna Grant and Lisa Renee Jones. Unfortunately we missed Lisa because she was sick and couldn't make it to the event. Still it was fun with Donna, her dragons and the rest of the awesome ladies who went to the Con. Sorry the photos aren't that good, I just took these from my phone so they suck a little.

I was lucky enough to be one of the chosen 6 attendees who got invited by Donna for lunch. We met at Darfon's and it was very relaxed, very interactive and everyone at the table had something funny or interesting to share. I had a great time simply from meeting these women and from laughing so much! I think I just got inducted as one of Donna's Glow in the Dark Bitches. It's an honor LOL.

It was a small event but what it lacked in attendance more than made up for how personal it became and how everyone mingled really well and by the end of the event everybody was just chit chatting about a bunch of stuff from dragons, Scotsmen, whiskey, cupcakes, books and more book stuff.

My favorite part aside from the freebies, games, giveaways and other stuff

are the people I met! I have a better appreciation for fandom, it feels so good to talk to people who shares the same passion or hobby as I do. I don't feel like such a geek and I don't have to elaborate or justify my book obsession with them. They totally get it! Ha!

So I met these awesome bloggers!

Vanessa the The Jeep Diva
Melissa of and she's also Donna's "rock"

And I was lucky enough to cross paths with these two.

Josette, who drove for 13 hours from Ohio, and a hardcore Donna fan. This girl is so sweet! She intentionally missed out on J.R. Ward's book signing in Ohio for Donna's. A little gossip, she shared that Ms. Ward's signing is packed that it's like a live virtual signing. You can't even greet her or have your picture taken. A bummer but I guess that's the price for famedom!

Donette, a fellow Tennessean from Knoxville. She girl is mothafrackin awesome! I will never forget the Red Coffin! She's so funny, she reminds me so much of Janeane Garofalo.

I wasn't able to take a picture with the two Cindy's who drove with Donette from Knoxville on a rental car ridden with werewolf fur. I had a laughtastic time with them!

The events were really cool and intimate given that there were only about 20+ of us who made it to the event because it was Easter Sunday the next so it conflicted with people's plans. But Donna and Melissa made it so worth out while to spend an afternoon with them. There were games, whiskey shots, cupcake design and a forum.

It was a great experience for me and I'm sure it won't be my last.

I will be giving away sets of swags. These are a combo of trading cards, bookmarks and Lisa Renee Jones' booklet.
This is open internationally.
Just fill out the rafflecopter form and be on your merry way.
Contest ends April 8.

Good luck!

  1. It looks like you had an AMAZING time!! It's such a high going to events like this, isn't it? And it's so awesome that you met fellow bloggers and had lunch with Donna! I'd say your first signing was an EPIC success, yay! =D

I would love to attend a convention featuring Kelly Creagh, author of the Nevermore series. I've never been able to attend one of her signings because she never comes anywhere near where I live! :( Maybe someday...

  2. I have never attended a book convention because we rarely ever have any authors even stopping close to where I live. One day though, I do hope to go to one. I would love to go to one with Gena Showalter, J. d. Ward or Dnna Grant. I love ALL of their books!

  3. how fun! A small gathering like that is definitely worth going to! Glad you all had fun. If it was closer I would have been there :) I am going to AAD this year and want to go to one of the big ones like RT one day. Thanks for the giveaway

  7. Well since I've never been to a convention before but really hope to go to one some day.

  8. The only book convention I attended was by Richelle Mead after her last book of Vampire Academy came out! I loved it! But because we rarely ever have any authors coming close to where I live, I never attended again): I would like to meet Cassandra Clare, Christine Feehan, Sara Shepard, and C.J. Roberts! Thank for this giveaway!

  9. I went to a big book fair in Paris last week and I enjoyed a great discussion on the becoming of Fantasy. But I would have killed to be in your shoes...because the all gathering atmosphere was really pompous.

  10. We never had a book convention near us but I would really love if JR Ward, Gena Showalter, Richelle Mead, Jamie McGuire, Rachel Harris and many more... I'm so jealous you can go to this events... But congrats for having a good time and thank you for the chance to win swags... =)

  11. I would love to attend RomCom or Arthur's After Dark Convention. That would be excellent. sdylion(at)gmail(dot)com

  12. I have never been to a book convention but plan to in the future. There are several authors I know I want to meet in person.
