What would it be like to live in a world where you are considered abnormal to those who are above the norm?

Jenna O’ Conner has been taught her whole life to hide from everyone. Never to let anyone to close enough to know that she would prefer a shotgun for her birthday over of a bouquet of roses. She’s been smothered by her over protective family so that no one learns what she truly is. Which is not human. Nor, is she considered the norm for the supernatural Other community that is benevolent enough to share this world with the humans.

In a desperate attempt to live her own life away from the small town she was raised in, Jenna obtains her dream job as the newest member on the Wilmington Police Department’s SWAT Team. What she didn’t predict was that she would run into trouble her first day on the job, in the form of a deadly, mouthwatering man named Adam McPhee. Who is also not human, but more like a wolf walking around in human skin. He’s determined to figure out exactly what Jenna is, which unbeknownst to him, could very well put her life in danger. He’s also determined to have her all to himself.

As if that wasn’t enough for Jenna to deal with, bad news blows into town. A group of extremist Shifters who think humans are cattle and factions of Others worldwide should stay within their own species - never to intermingle. Chaos ensues. Jenna has to find a way to shut them down, but in the process of trying to do that, discovers things about herself that even she never thought was possible.

Who said the wolf was what you had to worry about?

Welcome to the real world.

I have to say BIG BAD BITE, Jessie Lane's first foray into the PNR/UF genre, was a very pleasant surprise. I'm very familiar of the sisters-in-law's YA collaboration and though I haven't read their Star series I've heard nothing but great things about the it. So with that same level of expectation, I was excited to read BIG BAD BITE and experience the dynamic duo's skill with the pen... or the keyboard. And I sure had fun reading Jenna June O'Conner's adventure and romance.

BIG BAD BITE is obviously a werewolf story however Jenna isn't your typical shifter. As a halfie,  half shifter-half demon, her limited knowledge about the Other world, pack politics and practices in particular, put a tight twist to the story. I'm a little bummed that she won't be leading the series (read the interview with Jessie Lane coming up later) because she's a delightful heroine to follow and her sharp tongue sure made me LOL a couple of times plus her romance with Adam was fiery! There's so much about them that could be explored but at the same time, I trust JLane's instincts and leave the "cooking" to them. However I wish we get to read more about Jenna in the coming books.
Frankly, I don't feel like taking an allergy pull just so I can see this big dick you claim to carry.
The plot was layered really well and the sub-plots blended perfectly. Jenna was really put in a very interesting mode where she is required to cope with a lot of things in such short notice. She found herself coping with a new job, meeting new shifters, learning about pack ways and politics, discovering her long lost Uncle Owen is not only alive but he's the revered Pack Master of the United States (like my boyfriend, The Marrok Bran Cornick), discovering she has a half brother and meeting her mate in Adam McPhee. Then they have to go to Germany to get to the bottom of several criminal spree perpetuated by one of the most powerful packs in the world, the Corvus Pack. Only to find out that there's more to the story than a bunch of rogue wolves committing various crimes. Whew! There are a lot of facets but trust me, it didn't feel cluttered or rushed and the story was shaped really well. The world building didn't suffer at all as well the smexy which explains why I want to read more about Jenna and Adam because their story is so rich!

From the interview (shameless plugging here!) and the ending of BIG BAD BITE, Jenna and Adam's story is pretty much tied complete with mating Marks but it also brewed a new story, Walk on the Striped Side, Gage and Elena's story, which I'm looking forward to. Despite my wishful thinking about more stories with Jenna and Adam, I very much enjoyed BIG BAD BITE, its funny, badass and filled with otherworldly magic and ripe sexual tension. Jessie Lane understands what makes a great PNR/UF story and if you're a fan of the genre I suggest you get yourself a copy.

    1. I love Alcide! He's no Adam Hauptman, but I still love him. Do you think Sookie will end up with Alcide in the last book? That's scheduled to come out this year, right?

  2. Thanks for the fun post and giveaway! I really like Curran from the Kate Daniels series. Even though he's not technically a "werewolf" he's still a shifter :)

    1. I haven't read the Kate Daniels Series yet. It's on my radar... but I just haven't made it there yet. Is it a must read kind of thing? If it's amazing like Cat-and-Bones-Night-Huntress amazing, then someone let me know!
