Girl Crush Mondays: Claire Nichols-Rawlings

Dear Braine,

Thank you for your kind note. I must admit, it caught me by surprise. You see, I was under the impression my current location was hidden. Apparently, Anthony Rawlings hasn’t been the only person watching me through the years. You seem to know a lot about me and my life. I must admit, the word creepy again came to mind. Then I convinced myself, perhaps you’ve read Meredith Bank’s notes?

Either way, since you’re so informed, I thought you deserved a response:

First and foremost, I’m well as is my unborn child... Thank you for your concern. I feel you’ve misconstrued my motives or beliefs. Perhaps it is the way Meredith wrote her rendition of my history. I admit Mr. Anthony Rawlings and I have not had your typical history.

Since you seem to know all -- I’ll be blunt. Our relationship started in a terrible horrible way. Truthfully, I despised him for months. I’m well aware of Stockholm syndrome. I even recognized it in myself while we were together before our marriage.

I’m not sure how much you know about me, but my mother died when I was a college student. My sister, Emily, means well. But I’d prefer her to be a sister and a friend, instead of a substitute mother. The only person who seemed like a “mother” to me was Catherine. She helped me through some very difficult times. I don’t care to discuss those times – if you know as much as you allude to, you probably know what I mean. Catherine was there when I felt totally alone. She soothed, calmed and reassured me when I had no other support.

You mentioned in your letter how she “has gotten some sense into me”??? Braine, are you crazy? She purposely scared me... took my trust and threw it out the window! She sent me away for the sheer purpose of hurting me and Tony. It is well known, my greatest fear is isolation. Catherine convinced me to accept her imposed isolation. Once again, I was gullible. I believed in loyalty. You are right, I have learned the TRUTH! That TRUTH tells me, Catherine had a different agenda... she wasn’t and never has been looking out for me.

I didn’t return to Iowa as a “Stepford Wife”. Perhaps you don’t understand because I haven’t shared my most recent history with Meredith. However, my life in Iowa recently and in 2010-11 couldn’t have been more different. Given our past, I can see how you may misconstrue what you see.

It will probably add to your lack of respect for my decisions, but I’ll be honest: I never thought of having a restraining order issued against Mr. Rawlings. As I once told Harry, after I saw Tony again in the restaurant, I didn’t feel personally threatened. I feared for my friends, but never again for myself. Then you ask why did you leave? Catherine used my concern for others and centered it on the “other” who means the most to me. It was a cruel devious plan.

I have news for you and any other creepy people watching my life. I’m done listening to well-intended advice. I’ve decided to live my life the way I want. Who that is with and where are yet to be seen. But don’t worry Braine, those decisions are solely mine.

Thank you for your well-intended concern. Perhaps one day we can meet and I’ll get you up-to-date on my story. As you know, I don’t hold grudges for things like creepy spying,  Instead I can be quite forgiving.

Take care, I promise I will too!

I think I struck a chord there... creepy? More like obsessed!
Thanks for answering my lovely letter, Claire, I guess I do see things from a different place.

Aleatha Romig's CONSEQUENCES SERIES is one of my favorite adult-contemporary read for 2012. She invaded my brains and ticked and prodded it with some serious shiznit which got me so invested over Claire and Anthony's story.

So if you like your thrillers smart, creepy and transcendental, read this series! I promise Aleatha will get under your skin.

Aleatha Romig voted #1 "New Author to Read" on Goodreads, July, August, September, and October 2012! She has lived most of her life in Indiana growing-up in Mishawaka, graduating from Indiana University, and currently living south of Indianapolis. Together with her husband of twenty six years, they've raised three children. She works days as a dental hygienist but enjoys spending her nights writing. She also likes to spend time with her family, friends and patients. Her pastimes include exercising, reading and writing.
Aleatha enjoys traveling, especially when there is a beach involved. In 2011 she had the opportunity to visit Sydney, Australia to visit her daughter studying at the University of Wollongong. Her dream is to travel to places in her novels and around the world.
