It's finally here!
Downton Abbey Season 3 is finally here!
So why am I fangirling like this?
Well Downton Abbey has got to be one of the most addicted shows I've ever seen. It's like soap but with rich aristocrats living in huge houses garbed in the finest duds. To me the most fascinating part are not only the stuff that happens upstairs, with these crazy aristocrats keeping up appearances. But also the people running the house downstairs, the butler, maids, cooks, valets, their lives are as rich and intriguing as their employers.
There has been rumors about a character dying and we, fans, are hoping that it won't be the Dowager Countess of Grantham, Violet Crawley aka Maggie Smith. She has undoubtedly some of the best lines on the show uttering snappy comebacks, unfiltered observations and backhanded compliments without blinking an eye. With the equally haughty Shirley Maclain joining the cast playing Martha, Lady Cora Crawley's American mother, I'm sure these Dames will rival that of Matthew and Mary Crawley's storyline.
Last season we were left with Matthew Crawley proposing to Mary and finally the latter has come to her senses and accepted his offer for her hand in marriage. So I'm truly looking forward to the wedding, it ought to be fabulous, and Sybil's return to Downton pregnant after marrying their chauffeur, Tom Branson, and staying in Ireland for a bit.
Aside from the various romances going on, this season we'll see if the Crawley's survives the Great Depression with their assets tied to Lady Cora's inheritance. If Bates and Ana have their HEA or if the fairytale ending is only endowed on the Crawleys. My personal hope is that the middle daughter, Edith Crawley, gets a fair shot at her own happy ending. The past two seasons were rough romantically for her but from the preview it looks like Lady Edith's got her eye on a former suitor.
The first of 9 episodes (including the Christmas Special) will be aired tonight. Check your local listings for the schedule.
