Review: More Than Meets The Ink by Elle Aycart

Series: Bowen 1
Format: Digital (from Elle Aycart)
Release Date: June 28, 2011
Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | All Romance

Wickedly sexy James Bowen is a bad boy of the highest order -- tattoos and attitude included -- which unfortunately ranks way up on Tate's not-a-chance-in-hell list, right there along with skydiving naked over Teheran and juggling Ebola vials just for kicks. But what the heck, she's on holiday, the guy is absolutely irresistible, and she needs to unplug from her life. With her dad and brother gone, Tate is left to deal with the family restaurant, which is fast going down the drain. Her employees are acting out, her boyfriend has bailed out, and her very own private stalker is emailing her to death with lovely threats of doom, fire, and dismemberment. So yeah, maybe a little holiday fling is in order. Strictly sex though, and no follow-up whatsoever once.

She hadn't counted on her take-charge holiday fling having an opinion of his own and stubbornly sticking around, before and after the sex, making himself at home in her life. There is definitely more to James than meets her prejudiced eye, and even if she's not ready to look deeper, James isn't prepared to permit her not to.

MORE THAN MEETS THE INK by Elle Aycart is a sexy-as-sin contemporary romance that will help any reader warm up against the crisp winter season or self-combust from all the crazy, no-strings-attached monkey sex James and Tate did for most of the story.
--nine times out of ten, tattoos are an unmistakable marker for the whole bad-boy, I-am-above-all-that-mundane-shit style of life. So like Pavlov's dogs, I learned--tattooed men are evil.
And that is where Tate is wrong. I found it hard not to LOVE much less get all hot and bothered by James Bowen, a sexy 34yo black-belt ex-Marine Catholic guy and his made-for-sex 6'4 body with a beautiful dragon tattoo snaking up his arm and blue label skills in the bedroom. I was fanning my face as I mirror Tate's reaction to the man and his insatiable libido. James is a carefully crafted male meant to ignite out fantasies (or torture us), his name alone is foreplay! Don't you just love the name James?! Anyway, he's a good guy wrapped in bad-boy package with his tattoos and muscly built and no-nonsense attitude like David Beckham or The Rock.

The story... I almost forgot because I got distracted by James. Well the story is pretty simple, James met Tate when the latter was vacationing in his mother's house in some senior community housing. The instant attraction between Tate and James is instinctual and purely animal, they can't stay away from each other even after Tate went back to her life to deal with her personal problems. James can't get her off his mind so he followed her and the weekender turned into forever with a few hiccups along the way.
Sorry to inform you, but you've been having sex with morons. [James]
The little role reversal was fun to follow. Tate is the belligerent one between the two, wanting to keep their relationship purely casual even when she was obviously falling in love with James. In hindsight I appreciate her caution, she might have put out for James but Tate is no slut. James for his part continued to seduce and court her, taking care of Tate until she finally gave in and surrendered to James completely. There was a little snafu about exes just to keep things interesting but that conflict only solidified the bond James and Tate had.

MORE THAN MEETS THE INK is a great spicy contemporary romance read. You'll be left panting trying to catch up with Tate and James' sexual energy. The main plot is well developed too, it's not one of those bimbo-books where the story would collapse if you take out the heat, the smexy is just an added bonus to an already sweet and romantic story.

This is from Elle's upcoming James & Tate novella. It's not yet final and may change by the time it's published but she's wants to tease share with us chapter one's rough draft. You can read the full excerpt here.

As they reached his car she kissed his jaw. “Thanks for coming to get me.”

“Always, baby. Besides, your sis was organizing this shindig, and she’s a fucking menace.” Not to mention that since agreeing to marry him, she’d been staying at his place in Alden. No way was he sleeping without her. Besides, he wasn’t sure he could.

“You telling me you’re scared of Elle’s parties?”

“What do you think? The last party she threw for you, you came home with an inflatable cock on your head as a tiara, totally drunk and singing Gimme, gimme gimme. And carrying a huge basket full of sex toys.”

Not that he’d object to sex toys, but when your woman came home fully loaded and talking nonsense about being forced to fly solo after the wedding, well, you fucking worry.

“It was a Pleasure Party, James. The consultant gave me those sex toys as a present in case married life doesn’t work for me and I need to take matters into my own hands.”
Yeah, right, like that would ever happen.

“In hindsight,” she mumbled to herself, “she did say she was getting a divorce, so she may have been biased.”

“And the gag ball? Care to explain that one?”

She smirked, her silver eyes flashing, and whispered into his ear, “Ah, the gag ball I bought. You’re too bossy—wouldn’t hurt for you to be quiet from time to time.”

James burst into laughter. “Dream on, princess.”
