Review: Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick

Series: Hush, Hush 4
Format: Hardcover
Release Date: October 23, 2012
Publisher: Simon & Schuster

Will love conquer all?
Nora and Patch thought their troubles were behind them. Hank is gone and they should be able to put his ugly vendetta to rest. But in Hank's absence, Nora has become the unwitting head of the Nephilim and must finish what Hank began. Which ultimately means destroying the fallen angels - destroying Patch.

Nora will never let that happen, so she and Patch make a plan: lead everyone to believe they have broken up, and work the system from the inside. Nora will convince the Nephilim that they are making a mistake in fighting the fallen angels, and Patch will find out everything he can from the opposing side. They will end this war before it can even begin.

But the best-laid plans often go awry. Nora is put through the paces in her new role and finds herself drawn to an addictive power she never anticipated.

As the battle lines are drawn, Nora and Patch must confront the differences that have always been between them and either choose to ignore them or let them destroy the love they have always fought for.

It's so hard to say goodbye to Hush, Hush! No more sexy Fallen Angel. No more headstrong teen girl. No more midnight rendezvous and Nephilim attacks. No more Patch & Nora! Why?!

FINALE is a very fitting title to end this saga by Becca Fitzpatrick. Every loose thread has been tied nicely with a bow, the business with the Fallen Angels and the Nephilims were sorted out in a heart-pounding and bloody conclusion, lives were lost, second chances were found, and everyone had their HEA. I won't bore you with my ramblings because I'm pretty sure someone else did that already and I won't be redundant.

In bullet fashion, let me be succinct in my review:

  • Gotta love an archangel named Pepper. He's like Trickster/Gabriel in Supernatural.
  • Nora's mom is still a pushover.
  • I feel Vee Skye's big secret and revelation was more of an afterthought to me than a main part of her character.
  • Scott Parnell broke my heart to a million pieces.
  • Marcie Millar was still a bitch. I now regret liking her in Silence.
  • The Traitor. Oh I loved The Traitor. I'm not going to say who but The Traitor is smart, manipulative and really hateful. The Traitor got me riled up real good.
  • The twists and turns gutted me! At one point I thought we were going to lose Patch!
  • I loved the big battle between the Nephilims and the Fallen Angels. It was bloody and heart stopping.
  • Nora didn't disappoint. She saw the battle with the Fallen Angels through without hesitation. The ending is bittersweet.
  • Patch's declaration of love for Nora are golden! His vow to Nora made my knees weak and a little teary. The kind one feels on wedding? Yeah that kind!
I want to wake up with you every morning and fall asleep beside you each night. I want to take care of you, cherish you, and love you in a way no other man ever could. I want to spoil you--every kiss, every touch, every thought, they all belong to you. I'll make you happy. Every day, I'll make you happy.

I never pictured my life so complete. I never thought I'd have everything I want, You're everything to me, Angel.
  • My only regret is that I hoped BFitzpatrick went all New Adult in the epilogue. Sexy time with Patch would've been the perfect ending.

Hush, Hush is a saga that lived up to its expectations. The series was consistent and fluid, the characters were unforgettable and Patch and Nora's pairing is memorable. Their story and romance will be forever in our hearts and will continue to be the benchmark for future YA reads.
