Bonus Scene + INTL Giveaway with Heather Hildenbrand

Tara Gofrey's Grandma, Edie, is my favorite character in the series and Heather has been so nice to give us a scene from BLOOD BOND where Edie picks up Tara from Nevada and bring her home.

Edie rolled up her sleeves and slammed the lid on the suitcase, making sure to spin the dial on the lock for good measure. That girl was going to be the death of me yet, she thought. Couldn’t keep her feet planted for just one more dad-gum day, could she? Of course not—not when it meant putting herself in danger. That girl had a problem and it was time someone called her on it.

Elizabeth wasn’t going to do it.

Edie hated knowing her daughter’s past had paralyzed her so completely for the world they lived in, but there it was. Elizabeth had been through more than most and she was still fighting for her child—just not in the way Edie had hoped. Not in the way of a Hunter. Still, there was time. Hadn’t Edie moved back here just so she could focus on helping Elizabeth find her way back to all this?

But, that would have to wait, because Tara was acting a fool.

Edie couldn’t begrudge why Tara’d done it, but couldn’t she have at least waited until it was safe?

A strangled hmmph escaped her and she grabbed for her phone, her fingers hovering over the call button just as it rang.

“Hello?” she snapped. “Is it done?”

“Yes, ma’am,” the young man stuttered.

“What time?”

“One hour, ma’am. I’d hurry if I were you.”

“You’d do a lot of things if you were me, son. Stuttering ain’t one of ’em. Thanks for the flight arrangements. We never had this conversation.”

“Yes ma’am.”

“And Channing? Did you connect with him?”

“He’s en route.”

“Good.” She disconnected and headed for the door.

At some point, when she wasn’t boiling mad, she’d commend the young man properly on a job well done. Not many people could’ve gotten two seats on a flight from DC to Vegas at this time of day on such short notice—especially off the books and under an alias. Good for him.

She left the hotel room without a backward glance and slid into the cab already waiting. Her Hummer sparkled in the sunlight as she passed by. She’d already made arrangements for one of her men to park it at the airport in Virginia for her return trip.

The airport bustled with activity and it took her longer than she’d liked to get through security. Alex Channing was already waiting for her when she got to the gate. He was slouched over in an uncomfortable chair, away from the crowds. A blue duffel bag sat at his feet.

“You made it,” she said.

“Mrs. Godfrey—” he began, rising to his feet.

“Edie or don’t bother,” she interrupted. “Did you get my letter?”

“I did.”

“Does this mean you’re in?”

She watched him take a deep breath. “It does.”

“Good.” She pointed to a chair, secretly relieved at his answer. But they didn’t have time to celebrate. Or reason to, just yet. So much was at stake. “Tell me what you know.”

He sat and did as she asked.

Heather Hildenbrand was born and raised in a small town in northern Virginia where she was homeschooled through high school. She now lives in coastal VA, a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean, with her husband and two adorable children. She works from home, part time, as a property manager and when she's not furiously pounding at the keyboard, or staring off into space whilst plotting a new story, she's helping her husband with DIY projects in their home (he woodworks - she paints) or she's lying on the beach, soaking in those delicious, pre-cancerous rays.

Heather loves Mexican food, hates socks with sandals, and if her house was on fire, the one thing she'd grab is her DVR player.
